They refused to update my financial aid with relevant grant information several times. They also retaliated against me for asking by disabling my access to my email, and refusing to send me the completed package information on my personal email. The professors are mostly wonderful. Unfortunately, the school itself is money hungry and they are liars ,thieves ,and cheats. Financial Aid doesn't know what they are doing and neither do the advisors. In 10 months I have had to go above my advisors to my Chem professor to fix their mistakes. I have a family of 6 and we make 60k a year and receive medi-cal and even with a scholarship financial aid wanted me to pay $2100 a month. This exceeds my mortgage and car payment. They basically expect me to sell all my possessions to go here and live in a tent with my family on campus so I can continue to go here. I have only completed a total of 3 semesters in my lifetime (1 1/2 here) so there is no reason I wouldn't qualify for financial aid and pell grants to cover my tuition. They truly do not know what they are doing. I took out a private loan that exceeded what they asked for by $700 and they told me it isn't enough now and want an additional $800 per month while also charging me late fees for the hold up on an unsubsidized loan. They also charge you 75% of classes you drop even if you drop them by start of week 2 as they (advisors) fail to inform you of this information. They warn you biblically about the wolves in sheep's clothing in the church. This school is exactly that. They laid off administration and teachers that had been there for decades to avoid having to pay their retirement pensions. How christian and Jesus like is that? They do not practice what they preach! Pro is you get a good education here Con is you pay way to much for it and the advisors make you feel unheard and put you into a degree path you did not ask for. read more

So far I have pleased with my interactions with FPU. My wife has been going there for two years and will graduate in two years. Pluses. It's Christian foundation. My wife (because we have a young daughter) had had to take online classes from other colleges, and it's amazing how subtly one's world view can creep into studies like psychology or anthropology. Having a truth-based backdrop makes learning infinitely more profitable, especially in science classes. The Psychology department had been good for my wife. Small and close-knit. Jay Pope had been a strong advocate for our family. I like the quiet campus atmosphere too. What irks me? The tuition cost, of course. But it's a quality education. I get that. Also, the fact that, two years ago my wife was 7 months pregnant at the beginning of the semester (and had our daughter mid semester), and my wife was put on academic PROBATION?!? for failing two classes. My warrior wife had a baby and was back in class two weeks later! She scratched and clawed, and passed one of her three classes. Yes, that means she failed the other; but FPU has treated her like a fool ever since, forcing her to meet with her advisor to make sure she can do her work. It's really patronizing. For such a small school, you'd think they would realize that my wife is not a pariah but a poster-child for being a non-traditional student. I will end on a positive note, though. They have been awesome about helping her come up with a schedule that works for our young family. She has been introduced to a few colleges that provide online classes, and she's been able to leverage that schedule flexibility well. So...overall...Go Sunbirds! read more

Especially, the student finance office because they never answer the phone and they're unwilling to help the students. The office staff is rude and seem annoyed when you need help. If you need help or want questions answered, this university isn't the best place to attended. read more

Who wouldn't want to be a Sunbird? Google it. It's a fruity bird. Probably the gayest mascot....well not technically. My high school's was the Lodi High Flames....yes, I am an ex-flammer. I'm sure Pat Buchanan and Jerry Falwell would salute to that. If you plan on studying Philosophy or Political Science (which is what I studied), you will not be disappointed. The class sizes are small and I actually took 4 independent study courses in Philosophy where I met with my professors at Starbucks or over dinner and discussed Socrates, Plato, etc. It was amazing. Where else can you get that? Take any class offered by Richard Rawls or Richard Wiebe. The only bad thing about going to such a small college is that the classes offered can be limited and you don't get much of that college feel. So, I dated a Fresno State guy and would just go over there for all of my social needs. Seriously, get student seats for the football games. As to housing, LIVE OFF CAMPUS! I barely survived living in the dorms for 1 semester. Living near the campus is safe, although you may hear otherwise. I lived in 4 different apt. complexes or condos near the school by myself and I never had problems. I personally had problems with some of the things that go with attending a private Christian college. The 1st week I was there I heard at least 10 times, "Ring by Spring." Um, wasn't it the year 2000? I'm coming to college to learn and build my future career right? Nope. Stupid me. Three-quarters of the girls I knew were there to get teaching or music degrees so that they could meet their future spouse. Gag me with a spoon! To end it on a positive note, there are many opportunities to study abroad, whether it is through ministry or otherwise. I spent my last semester in DC in the American Studies Program. Fresno Pacific University needs ZERO stars as it is the worst school ever! Do not send your child here. The safety is not good at all. If your child attends this school be sure to have life insurance, as it is not guaranteed they will make it to graduation. The faculty is incompetent, the prices are expensive, the education is sub-par and the security they might as well not even be employed as they are nonexistent -- until something tragic happens, by that time it is to late and the school is running around trying to cover themselves for their negligence. Anyone can walk on this campus and have access to all classrooms. This school cares nothing about campus safety, it's all about getting enrollment so they can make money. Did someone say Christian education? Sorry I don't think so, the head of the spiritual department and pastor of the school knows nothing about spiritual warfare and barely understands salvation. This school is clueless when it comes to things in the spirit realm. Fresno Pacific University just has a Christian sign but many places in this day including some churches only use the word christian as a smoke screen to draw you, it does not mean they actually are serving the same Jesus Christ you are. If you're looking for a school, in the Fresno area to serve as your university, FPU should not be one of them. The school by far has the highest Tuition rate in all of the city, with an astonishing 45k, with that much you think this school has something good to offer for their students right? No, there's nothing in this school that is offered that contents with the other university, other than the fact they do it much much worse! There were hardly any staff members in my major and the program director who also was my Advisor, and also was my Instructor was proof of that, there were in total of 4 instructor's in the whole major, and most of them weren't given degree's in my major that I was in but were allowed to teach it, which I found bizarre and the school does a horrible job with giving student's warning's about drop deadlines and making sure that if whatever reason they had to leave, that they do. I can go on and, on about why the school is by the long shot, the worst experience I ever had, but I think I've summarized pretty well. read more

Due to the financial aid department and the supporting staff, I'd strongly suggest to look at other Universities. Several years ago I started the journey of re-visiting a supposed bill the FPU said I owed. I had been a full-time student and took 1 class in the fall 2010 semester, before taking a leave of absence. I was 100% financial aid student, as I had qualified for the Pell Grant and took out a loan, but somehow the school was stating that I owed $3231.11, when the total about of the class I took was $1418. At first I had problems getting a response from Stacie Benedict (Director of Student Financial Services), but then got met with even an unkind attitude. As I reasoned with Stacie with the logic, she realized a portion of their error and refunded $1300 to my loan holder, to which I will be responsible for even a higher interest rate, since they submitted 9 years later. Stacie still could not explain why they were still trying to charge me the entire cost of the class I already paid for in loans, so I left a voice mail for her supervisor Jon Endicott, but Jon would not respond to me. I reached out again finding out Stacie was no longer there, but that Chad Boling was handling her concerns; but since I filed a complaint with Federal Student Aid, Chad would not be willing to speak to me. I then reached out to the University president Joseph Jones, left him a voicemail, but he didn't call me back, but had David Richards (Director of Student Financial Services) email me. Now I am being offered a $2000 payoff deal instead of the $1418 offered earlier in the year, but still do not have anyone capable of explaining why I supposedly own more than full price on a class that I took out loans for. This has been going on for years, and it makes it more difficult to be investigated since they are private, and I can't get my transcripts released until I pay them whatever figure that they currently stating. read more

I gave the Hiebert Library five stars because I am in here a lot and it already feels like home. I feel very prepared to use the library for future research needs because everything is online and I can look up a book no matter where I am. It is very easy to locate the resources because they have magazines, books, and e-books as well that are very simple to search for. One tip I have for future library users is to make sure that you read all the Library Guides to ensure you know all the information. I envision using the library all the time during my stay at Fresno Pacific University. I have already been coming in everyday to do homework, plus I need study hours for Cross Country and Track and Field. There is plenty of space to do work, be on a computer, and print out papers or guides for class. There is even bean bags to lay on to read your book of choice and rooms as to not get distracted by others passing by. You can complete any task you need in the Hiebert Library. I think this library is the ultimate resource because you can check out anything and even buy used books and CD's. read more

I would give the Library here a 4 out of 5. Some of the librarians aren't very helpful but they have a good caring staff for the most part! The students that work here are upper nice and everyone always has a great smile. You can find pretty much everything here with the helpful resources and the book locater. With the selection of e-books it makes trying to find certain parts of the book easier as well, also saves time. In my future visits to the library, I do feel like I will be able to find everything I need efficiently. In my opinion, being able to find the books is easy, they have little signs posted around so you can find the number of the book you need. If you cant find something, just ask for help. Don't be afraid. also try to get here early cause the couches are always taken up loll. I plan on using the library more often to do homework. read more

At Fresno Pacific the library is a place not only to sleep but to get real actual work done. Me I know that as soon as I go home I go to sleep and don't have the energy or the patience for homework. FPU's library is a resource that plays a huge role in students lives and pursuit of degree completion. I say this for the simple fact that nearly everything you need to be a successful student is right there in one place. For example finding information on a topic; FPU's database is super fast and helps you locate the book as soon as possible. Also the library clerks are super resourceful at having knowledge as to where locating books on the shelf. Me personally I have never been a library kind of guy, but since I have been going to Fresno Pacific University I have allowed myself to not only gain knowledge but understand it as well. By far I am no library expert, but it seems to be well rounded organization, and I plan on continuing to use the library as a resource throughout my four years of college. Beside I am a Criminology Major I was going to have to find my way into the library might as well start now. Honestly it is a whole different feeling when you do something willingly rather than being forced. I feel as me coming to the library willing I have been able to see the max that it has to offer it's students and staff as an institution. Also it is listed as a Public Library I highly recommend that you guys come and check it out! The staff is constantly changing, I started off with one admissions advisor and never heard back from anyone at the school, so I called to find what was going on and it was a good thing I did because he had resigned and no one followed up with me. Professors posted syllabi with wrong books. Professors are being recruited at the last minute for classes. It's a joke! And their Financial Service department.... one advisor will tell me I need to one thing and then something else and it's 6 months later and they still have not resolved the issues and now this guy is no longer with the school. For it being a Christian University you would think they were out to help students, it's just another financial institution out to make money and could care less about the students and apparently the staff because of the constant change over. I am still working to resolve this issue and hope someone from the school will reply to this post and let me know who I can speak with to fix my students records and get this hold off my account. read more

If I could give this school less than a one star I would. Most of the professors were assholes especially Bill Jean from the communication departments. There was only handful of Professors that were good. The teachers don't care about whatever circumstances your going through. Personally, I was dirt poor trying to attend a private where I didn't belong. Along with that I had just had a child and had to miss because I didn't have a babysitter. I told my professor what was going on and she told me that shes is going to doc my grade for attendance. They are sticklers with attendance and don't give a crap what your going through. I ended up failing two classes that I had a B's in because of attendance.If you have the option go to Fresno State. Its cheaper a better school and not totally full of shit. read more

One of the most useful things that Fresno Pacific has is the Hiebert Library. As a student there at FPU i learned many things that the Library has that can make school a lot easier such as finding books, E books, or even online articles. The library makes it 10 times easier to find a book either by searching it online or any staff members. I feel very confident and assured that if in the future I ever need something like a book or references i could use the Hiebert library at anytime either from home or in the library and it even allows me to see if there a book i'm able to check out or not. I can see myself using the library multiple times in the future because there are lots of books and articles that i would need in the near future that will help me with my studies. Some tips i recommend others is to not be afraid to ask for questions especially if you never been in the library before or if your new because knowing the many ways there are to use the library can make life as a student so much easier. read more

The Hiebert Library in Fresno Pacific University is one that makes you feel welcomed. If you know what you're doing there you can easily just walk in and do what you need to. Whether that be for studying, to make copies, or even write Yelp reviews online for a class it's all available. I guess checking out books is an option too so there's always that. If you don't know what to do inside of the library the librarian is always more than happy to help. Say you need help to find a book but you don't quite understand how to use the computers to look up books. The Librarians will come over and ask if you need assistance and as long as you say yes, you'll get the proper help you need for said book. You don't have to be a genius to go in and find a book as long as you ask for help. If you need help and you don't ask for it, you're just wasting your time by struggling with something that's as easy as just asking someone for help. Finding the books isn't that bad either seeing how every single row is labeled with where each book is at. You don't need to be familiar with the library to understand where everything is at. read more
