I'll start by saying the food was good, we ordered the avocado toast with bacon, freshly squeezed orange juice, a London Fog, a salmon croissant breakfast sandwich and shortbread cookies. The total was $82 which is very steep especially since there's no table service. You walk up and place your order at the register, you get a number stand and they bring out the food. The floor and tables were quite dirty, in the time I was there I didn't see anyone come out to wipe the tables or pick up the debris on the floor. I wouldn't go back at that price point especially in this economy. read more

Freya Bakery and Cafe has a good ambiance and solid food. I came in needing a balanced breakfast from an East Coast flight and ordered the healthy bowl with bacon. It had eggs, tomatoes, pineapple chunks, cheese, arugula, mushrooms, onions, and of course- bacon! It was warm and filling, which was just what I needed. Freya is a spacious, warmly lit cafe with a great selection of food and drink. During my Seattle trip, I had mostly been eating pastries for breakfast, but I loved that Freya had something heartier and more options in general. I ordered a hot København latte, a slice of vegetable quiche, and a spinach and feta pastry to-go. My friend ordered a plain iced latte, the grilled brie and prosciutto toast, and a kouign amann to-go. The dine-in service was fast, and I thought the food and drinks were really good. The København latte was warm and spicy, perfect for a rainy day. The vegetable quiche was delicious - a substantial serving but not overly greasy or heavy. The brie and prosciutto toast had fig jam that paired well with each bite. I particularly enjoyed the toast since it had pumpkin seeds in the crust that gave it a nice texture. My only complaint is that my hot drink was served in a glass cup with no handle. I noticed that other patrons had received their hot drink in a ceramic mug, which I would've preferred. I couldn't immediately handle my drink to enjoy. However, I can say that their pastries reheat well! I brought mine back home to enjoy a day later, and it still tasted amazing. Great coffee shop/bakery that took over the Specialty's space. The remodeling inside makes the place look sleek and modern and there's a ton of seating for groups and solo diners. Great spot for coffee with a really nice ambiance. Their croissant was good, while the rum ball was just okayish for me. One thing I really liked about this cafe is that it has plenty of space for working and comfortable seating, making it a great spot for long sittings. The only downside is that there's no air conditioning, so during hotter days it can get a little uncomfortable inside. Overall, still a lovely cafe for good coffee and a relaxed vibe. read more

I got an iced butterscotch latte with a tomato & ricotta cheese croissant and both items were 10/10. Butterscotch is not a flavor I normally come by at coffee shops so I just had to try it out and heavens almighty was it delicious!! It was sweet but not too sweet, the espresso wasn't burnt or bitter, and it reminded me of when my grandma gave me this candy as a kid when I'd beg for a sweet treat. As for the croissant it was a winner for me as well. I mean it's tomato, cheese, and flaky buttery bread so not much space for things to go wrong. Service was quick and if you choose to dine in they'll give you a number so once you find a spot to post up in they'll bring out your order right away. Seating here was also immaculate, so many options to choose from tables to stools to couches to booths this places has it all. We came here after seeing a show at the 5th Avenue Theater. It is really close by. On a Saturday afternoon, it was about half full. It was not very noisy. They were playing music that we could hear pretty well. We had a choice of multiple different types of seating and tables. There are some comfortable options and some more business type options. We ordered iced lattes and blueberry lemon cake. We took a number to our table and waited for it to come. It all came out really fast. The servers and cashier were all nice and helpful. The coffee was really good. The cake was also really good. It had a nice layer of cream that was intensely lemony. It was a nice place to sit, talk and eat for a bit after a show. The baked goods, food, and coffee are delicious here. It's such a pretty cafe to sit and chat for a bit. The salmon we had was cooked well and tasted fresh. The bakery items were soft, pillowy and just the right sweetness. My husband and my cousin are OBSESSED with chocolate, specifically chocolate cake so when I read all the amazing reviews of this "Dutch Chocolate Cake" I said, we HAVE to come here and I'm glad we did. It was perfectly moist and not too decadent where you couldn't finish it. Absolutely worth it. My other cousin got the Cardamom Knot, but unfortunately, that was more on the dry side. This is a beautiful cafe with ample interior seating. There is a kiosk at the front where you're able to order drinks or anything from the breakfast or lunch menu but it doesn't include pastry items-- super convenient for folks who don't have time to wait in line if there is a long line of patrons. There is also quite an assortment of pastry items in the case to select from as well. My sister and I ordered the København Latte, Golden Pear Cappuccino, Churro Cruffin, and a Pear Creme Brûlée. For the latte I had the option of either ordering a hot drink or a cold one and I chose regular milk as my base. I wasn't sure if I was going to finish the drink and the Creme brûlée so I requested for my order to be "to go". Since my sister's order was a dine-in, we picked up a number card and found a seat. A server then came by with our drinks. Neither of the drinks really impressed us. The Cappuccino felt more "peppery" than "pear sweetness". The latte had faint almond notes and a stronger cardamom after taste. The pastries were a home run for us! The pear Creme brûlée has actual cut slices of pear in the center with some creme layered underneath. It wasn't super crunchy or crisp but the brûlée exterior was very tasty. The cruffin was slightly more oily on the outside than I would have liked but the layers on the cruffin were so good-- crisp on the edges yet soft on the inside. I'm not sure why it's called a "churro cruffin" since I don't taste much of cinnamon but the vanilla filling was really nice and paste-y-- not the runny liquid type. Would love to come by again next time I'm in the area to try out more of their pastries! read more

The cafe is large and light filled, but well laid out to create areas of coziness and "Hygge". Food & coffee absolutely on point - the best of both worlds, Hagen coffee and Freya pastries. Absolutely worth getting something to go from here. The space is modern with a good mix of tables and bar-tops. However, relaxing or conversation is impossible due to the loud euro-house music constantly blasting through speakers that can't handle the volume. I'm not an audiophile but the sound quality is absolutely terrible and not helping anyone. The service is so-so - I get the feeling from the staff that they're doing you a favor by fetching a croissant from the counter and putting it on a plate. Overall, this venue can't seem to decide if it wants to be a relaxing, high-end city cafe or a trashy Ibiza nightclub. Your best option is to get your stuff to go, then sit in relaxing and beautiful architecture of Cedar Hall just next door. read more

For example, had a Kugelhopf listed as a Scandinavian pastry (that's German/Austrian, not common in Scandinavia), which tasted like bland overproofed pizza dough lightly coated in plain granulated sugar. Feels like an attempt to appropriate "Nordic chic" imagery for what's basically a chain cafe with an eclectic array of pan-European influenced pastries. I was really excited to come here and grab a pastry, and the blueberry one looked so good. Naturally, I asked if they could warm it up... and was told no. Which was interesting, considering they were actively warming other breakfast items. Apparently pastries don't qualify? Not sure what the cutoff is, but okay. Cafe Hagan is a steeple of mine. This Freya bakery Café location is one of the bigger locations with lots of seating and room. They have a toco bar. You could also order with somebody at the front. They make a lot of baked goods fresh daily and in-house, which you cannot go wrong. My only complaint is that the matcha it was served a glass cup container and it was a hot drink so holding it was a bit difficult. Other than that, I would be back again. read more

This cafe/bakery has been on my bucket list for a while, and it did not disappoint. They were founded by Cafe Hagen, and it's an extension of the Hagen coffee brand. Freya is ultimately the bakery piece to the Hagen brand. The pastries were so delish, I am already dreaming of going back to get the blueberry danish. The espresso flight was described perfectly by the team, and presented in a way that should be consumed. The overall location is not in the best area for parking as you will most likely have to park in a garage, or walk/take public transportation. However, the overall interior was great as it had so much seating, smelt so sweet inside, and had a nice vibe/energy to it. This is my go-to coffee shop when I visit downtown Seattle for specialty lattes and bakery items. They have danishes and croissants ranging from pear creme brûlée to spinach to croissant muffins! Absolutely delicious. The rose berry latte is so smooth, not overly sweet like Starbucks, and has a hint of rose. So easy to drink. I went at 8am on a Thursday and the line was to the door. However, if you're just ordering coffee, there are two tablets where you can skip the line and order. I didn't see them until I was standing in line looking around for 10 minutes. The line was a bit slow but if you want a pastry, then you need to stand in it. This is a great place to study or hang out with a friend. There's lots of comfy seats around to hang out. read more

We had just parked in downtown, when I spotted "Freya" at a corner that has been dark for several years. My curiosity got the best of me, and we walked over. Behold, Freya is a bakery, coffee shop, plus sandwiches, toast, brunch, serving cookies, cakes, and more. Woohoo! This darkened corner vacated by Speciality's has come back to life with a local company (I later learned). The interior layout is the same as before - baked goods and ordering on the right, several standing tables at the front for those enjoying coffee and a snack, more seats in the back. The cashier was super friendly. I bought my standard chocolate chip cookie ($4.50). Oh my, it is soooo good. It has a brown outer rim, soft horizontally except outermost edges, a slight crisp, and I can hold the cookie without it breaking. I like tasting the browned-sugar-ness of a cookie. (Is that a word?) Their version is thinner; a bit thicker would be good, too. We looped back to buy a second cookie after visiting SAM, because I liked it so much. We were eyeing their cake slices too (requires refrigeration), but we weren't going home yet. Next time! The toast and sandwiches look/sound really good, too. They are named Freya, because they serve Scandinavian dishes also. The cashier said they opened two weeks ago, and business has been busy.
