First breakfast we had in New York trip. My son and I had the lemon ricotta pancakes with a blackberry ice tea. My other son had the French toast and strawberries. My husband had the steak and eggs. Everything was delicious and filling. Our waitress was fantastic. Wish we went again. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I did a pick up order on doordash. When i walked in, there was so much seating as its pretty big inside. The vibes were chill on a monday night. I got the chicken and cheddar waffle, it was 2 breasts and a leg. Next time I would ask for dark meat only cuz the white meat was dry. The waffle was tasty though but the portion was a lot and I couldn't finish it. I also had the gf mac and cheese. The pasta shape is penne and it wasnt a cheese sauce which i was kind of expecting. It was melted shredded cheese on the pasta and i think they sprinkled cold parm on top. I wouldnt order that again. Lastly I had the brownie and it was very decadent. It had that nice brownie crust on top. This was also a big portion so I'd recommend splitting with someone read more

If you're looking for an easy to snag brunch spot on the weekend - Friedman's a solid pick. Personally was not a huge fan of the shahshuka I ordered - there were a ton of olives which overtook all the rest of the flavors. Maybe other dishes would have made my experience better read more

Ordered the French dip and was a little sad-- perhaps it was the takeout but the sandwich was quite plain and the dip did not hit. The Reuben was nice and greasy however! Need to try it in person perhaps! Cheers! read more

I've only had great experiences at all Friedman locations. I've been to this specific location probably 5-10 times now and every time it is a great experience. The staff is all so lovely and takes the time to explain things and get allergies all sorted. The food comes quick and is always delicious. The herb fries are INSANE. I have to get them every time. Their mocktails are great and it's truly appreciated that they have a mocktail menu. I cannot recommend friedmans enough. It's my go to. read more

We were looking around the city for brunch places that weren't too busy on a Sunday morning and stumbled across Friedman's. I have heard about this place before online and was looking forward to it. However, we all found the food to be a bit lackluster. I personally got the lemon ricotta pancakes, which is what I typically opt for at brunch if I want something sweet however I found the pancakes to be not strong in lemon flavor and a bit too sweet even without syrup. They were very fluffy so I will give that to them. The restaurant itself was very packed and the seats seemed to be very close to each other. But overall the decor is matching to a brunch spot. Service could use some work, as they mostly did the bare minimum and seemed to want our table to finish up quickly. Overall, it was a good spot to try once however there are so many other brunch places Id go to next time. read more

Well I had high hopes, this being the number one spot on YELP near where we were staying... We cruised over around 11 am for a breakfast. A couple ahead of us waiting... for two two tops. About four empty booths set for four. A group of three behind us walks in and gets sat immediately. I joked to the couple ahead of us. "Want to sit with us and eat sooner?" We were sat a few minutes later at a two top...right next to that couple. Ha! Then we are seated and intro'd both tables at the same time...kinda hilarious. We get our drink orders in. I asked for two iced coffees. We were brought one cold brew. I asked it this was the coffee or cold brew. She replied cold brew. It was flavorful. Almost chocolatey...but not great. I asked if I could just have regular coffee poured over ice. She said they don't normally do that but that they could do refills that way. I never asked to a refill...just for the iced coffee. I ordered. I'm frustrated. I admit it. The waiting while tables are open and the refill comment really annoyed me this morning. We got the iced coffee. It was exactly what I wanted. Didn't get a refill. The bacon was delicious. Good food. Great atmosphere. But the staff/treatment was pretentious. NY this trip has been one of the friendliest yet...until here! Felt like I was already back in frou frou LA. Bummed. Won't return. read more

In the age of shuttering diners and corporate takeover of Chelsea/Midtown, it is so refreshing to get a diner meal at a classic NYC spot with great service and tasty meals. Also refreshing to go to a place for breakfast/lunch/brunch on a weekend in the 5 Boros that isnt so packed to the gills that you have to wait 2 hours to sit in a cramped place for overpriced food. The booths are great, the menu is varied and has something for everyone, good coffee and SUPER fast service. The B.E.L.T. (bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato) was SO good. The bacon was crispy, the egg was a perfect over medium, and the bread had the right toast and the herbed aioli was such a compliment to the flavor profile. The hashbrowns were crispy and delicious! I also tried crab cake eggs benedict and the salmon salad. Great execution on both with big portions at a reasonable price. Would definitely come back! read more

My girl friend and I came here today for brunch drinks at the bar and Illyiana (I'm so sorry I'm butchering this spelling) was our bartender. She was incredible!! So sweet and quick and made a fantastic espresso martini. The vibe is incredibly cute and quaint. We didn't eat but we will definitely be back to do so. Spring break 2024 in NY city. We always love to try new eating places and came across this modern style restaurant near our hotel. I love how there are so many eating places that are walking distance! This place is clean, has a nice ambiance, great customer service. It's a bit on pricy side but, when in Rome right? We had the lemon ricotta pancakes, berry French toasts, scrambled eggs. YUM! Just enough lemon flavor to the pancakes so it's not overpowering. Fresh berries added to the French toasts. Scrambled eggs with just enough salts. This was a delicious meal to start off our morning. They also have lunch meals so hopefully we can try out the lunch the next time we're in town. read more

We went to the location down the street from Penn Station. It was extremely busy but we were greeted upon entering and told the approximate wait time. We were seated pretty quickly and the waiter came right over to get our drink orders so we could look at the menu. There were so many gluten free options. We chose to get the vegetable potstickers, mac and cheese bites and the chicken sandwich. They were all so good. It has a busy city diner feel with an upscale design. Stopped by for an early lunch on a Friday. Pretty standard food for a high price point. Very friendly staff, and clean diner-vibes. My friend got the eggs w style, while I ordered the chilaquiles. Both were fine and did the job of providing sustenance. Chilaquiles was a decent portion, but my friend's entree size felt a bit measly. Unlikely to be back, but if you're in the area in dire need of food...all things considered (specifically location-wise being in the UES, availability of nearby options, etc.), this your best choice in the area. read more

We wanted to try a new spot for breakfast in NYC, close to our hotel. Yelp had some good reviews, but I'd rate it as "meh." The place opens at 8:30 am, which felt a bit late for breakfast. The menu was limited, and we both ordered the same thing: Two Eggs Any Style with Toast, Hash Browns, and a choice of meat or fruit. My husband chose the turkey bacon, and I went with the fruit. The food was tasty, but the butter was hard, which made it frustrating to spread on cold toast. The coffee was extremely strong, and the orange juice was refreshing. A popular spot Midtown West. No wait time upon entering. But it's clear this is a well known spot. Hostess sat us on the modern side of the restaurant on the right, as the original old school side on the left was already filled with patrons. Service was super attentive, though my breakfast was a bit to be desired. Best part of my breakfast was the fresh squeezed Orange Juice, one slice of Rye Toast and Potatoes. NOT GLUTEN FREE - STAY AWAY!!! I have celiac disease and I ate here on Thursday night after I was told by the waitress (after disclosing that I have celiac disease) that the burger was gluten free apart from the bun which could be subbed with a gluten free bun and that the fries were GF because they have a dedicated frier (all good signs). I also ordered mushrooms (an optional add-on to the burger) which I now suspect may have been in a sauce thickened with a roux made with flour. The waitress said nothing about this and made no indication that it was not gluten free to add mushrooms to the burger. The one thing she did say that gave me pause was: "if your burger comes out without a little gluten free flag on it don't eat it." I'm sorry, but how often is that happening? How messed up is the kitchen that you are just sending people the wrong food can hurt them? I brushed it off because I was with friends who had already insisted on going to Friedman's for my benefit because it was gluten free (I usually just don't eat) and they wanted to go somewhere where we could all eat. My food came out with the dumb little flag on it so I began eating. When I was eating I noticed that it tasted a little too good but chalked it up to me being hungry. 30 minutes later I felt like I had a brick in my stomach. I was so sick that night (and I am still sick 4 days later as I write this) that after non-stop vomiting for over 30 hours my intestines are now so damaged that I cannot even process dairy (something I have never had any problems with in my life) which is something that happens to celiac sufferers after MAJOR exposure (villi are damaged and it prevents lactose digestion). What I experienced here was NOT mere cross contamination I was served something with gluten in it. This place should not be claiming it has gluten free options to people who identify themselves as celiac (or to anyone). It is clear that their kitchen and waitstaff are either not trained or are incompetent or just don't care about what happens to people with celiac and now I am suffering (and will continue to suffer for weeks and likely months) with the consequences. DO NOT GO HERE...I don't care whatever some manager who gets on here and tries to backpedal this review says, or what the brain dead waitstaff says they are not safe and they do not care about your health. read more

TLDR; best steak and eggs I've had to date. I don't know what it is about Friedman's but I can't get enough! Anytime I'm visiting the city and there's a location within 30 minutes walking distance I make sure to go. I ALWAYS get the steak and eggs. They're perfect! The meal comes with fries (which are always cooked perfectly) and a delicious jalapeño crema. One of the few meals in NYC where I feel like the meal warrants the price. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a hot NYC afternoon. Really nice place, good vibes, awesome service and quality above all. While I had wanted to try one of their traditional favorites, I ended up just having an Asian chicken salad. The portion size was perfect, with all the expected ingredients for an Asian salad. What a great breakfast and brunch spot. I had the a classic breakfast, Eggs with style, which was 2 eggs, thick cut bacon, toast and has browns... and it was all done really great. The twist came with the strawberry butter with the toast, it was unique and not too sweet. I'm looking forward to coming in again and trying their pancakes. I would give this place three stars, but I'm giving two because the service was decent. My group of friends and I ordered pancakes, some with chocolate chips and others with blueberries. When you order pancakes with add-ins, it's reasonable to expect those ingredients to be cooked into the batter--not just thrown on top as an afterthought. The menu advertises these as their "famous pancakes," but honestly, I don't see what's so special about them. For $22, they were incredibly disappointing and tasted pretty bad. I understand that gluten-free pancakes aren't for everyone, but having the chocolate chips placed on the outside instead of incorporated into the pancakes was not what we expected. Overall, I was disappointed. For the prices they're charging, the quality and service simply don't match. Definitely not worth it. read more

I was craving pancakes and decided to come to Friedman's after seeing photos of the lemon ricotta pancakes. There was a line outside, but smaller parties like mine were seated pretty quickly, so I didn't have to wait long. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes with a side of thick-cut bacon and scrambled eggs. I typically don't use syrup on my pancakes because I don't like sweets in the morning, so I only use butter. When lemon ricotta pancakes are made well, they usually don't need anything extra. Unfortunately that wasn't the case here. While the pancakes were aesthetically pleasing, topped with strawberries (and usually whipped cream, but I asked for no whip), they were so dry. Even when I asked for butter on the side, it didn't help. They had a hint of lemon flavor, but I couldn't taste any ricotta which probably contributed to the dryness. These pancakes definitely needed the syrup to taste good, and I didn't enjoy that. I finished one pancake out of the stack of three, and couldn't eat any more. The scrambled eggs were fine, hard to mess those up, but the "thick-cut" bacon wasn't as thick cut as I expected. It tasted and looked like regular cut bacon, nothing special. While their other breakfast items might be better, I wouldn't recommend coming here for the pancakes. read more

Our group of four came by on a Saturday for brunch at 12:30. It was crowded but we didn't wait too long. In fact, it's a pretty well-oiled machine they have running. We must have gotten our food within 5 minutes of ordering, and yes, it was hot - so they must have certain things prepped beforehand. We had an order of the lemon ricotta pancakes for the table to share. I was really excited for these but they were kind of disappointed. There was not enough lemon flavor or ricotta. They just tasted like pancakes with a hint of lemon. For my main, I wanted to try the fried chicken, which is what they're known for. But I didn't want the chicken dinner, so I went with the fried chicken sandwich. For lack of better words, it was thick and juicy. The chicken was perfectly fried. It does get pretty messy though. It also comes with a side of fries. Can't believe I've waited so long to try Friedman's! Don't let the brunch crowds deter you. Everything moves quickly and is very efficient. I loved watching the staff prepare the noodles while waiting. My bowl was huge and absolutely delicious. It was very spicy as promised, but not too spicy that it was rendered not enjoyable. I looked at other orders and everything looked delicious, leading to only semi-regret of my choice. My lemonade was very good. I'm very much looking forward to returning.

The broth was too salty for me but I just didn't drink it and it made all the other ingredients taste good. Pretty good portion for the price too. My bf got the lamb version and they didn't give him much lamb so I'd go with the beef. If you're looking for a quick tasty bite this place is it!
