Full disclosure: I have never even been to this place. But having subscribed to the CAC's daily…read moreemail meditations (sign up at cac.org) for a couple years, I would like to convey my appreciation. Written by CAC founder Richard Rohr, the meditations present Christian teachings from an amazing variety of perspectives: from Rohr's own Franciscan tradition to Judaism to Zen Buddhism; from biology to quantum physics; from Jungian psychology to AA; from ancient history to current events. Fr. Rohr's understanding of Christianity is a much-needed corrective to the rigid and intolerant pseudo "Christianity" that has poisoned our culture. He teaches true Christian values like openness, courage, generosity, individual responsibility and personal growth. He embraces a mystical, experiential approach in which God is not "up there" but everywhere -- within and among us. Also: Fr. Rohr never serves up bumper sticker slogans or easy answers. Instead he tackles paradoxes and unanswerable questions. He calls on you to rethink your attitudes and actions. He is provocative, challenging, yet always reassuring. What a pleasure it is to find, each morning, amidst the online coupons/spam/bills/miscellaneous bad news of the day, a reminder about the possibility of resurrection in everyday life.

The newly refurbished and expanded Reuter op. 2210 at the Cathedral of St. John's is an exceptional instrument. At 102 stops, 65 ranks, and 3,800 pipes, it is the largest pipe organ in New Mexico. More importantly, however, it is an extremely varied and exquisitely balanced instrument, perfectly suited to the warm acoustics of John Gaw Meems great sanctuary. Capable of the softest purr with its celestes and vox humana, or the mightiest roar from its battery of trumpets, the new organ continually thrills and inspires. The choirs, under the highly capable direction of Maxine Thevenot (Director of Music), are among the best in this state. Here is an example of a recent concert: Canto de las Estrellas: A concert celebrating the music of Enrique Granados (1867-1916) Works of Granados along with two pieces by New Mexican composer John Donald Robb. Galaxies and Stars Concert at 7:00pm** Douglas Riva, internationally acclaimed pianist Michael Shu, violin Kevin Vigneau, oboe Edmund Connolly, organ, The Cathedral Choir Las Cantantes - UNM Women's ensemble Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico Maxine Thévenot, conductor. The folks here, from Dean Mark Goodman to the helpful support staff, are very friendly -- real people. All in all, The Cathedral of St John provides both sacred and secular experiences that you need to take advantage of. Your life will be better for it.

If you want to go to a church where the hook is that no one knows anyone, or where everyone knows…read moreeveryone; if you think that priority of your church from the pulpit to the pews is the latest spiritual fad; if you want to hear people fight over buzz words like "missional", "Rob Bell", or "emergent"; if you want your pastor's most qualifying feature to be that people generally like him and that he's a decent public speaker; if you want a sunday morning rock concert, and light show; DO NOT come to St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church is the very same Church founded and headed by Christ that was established at Pentacost nearly two millenia ago. Our theology wasn't invented to fit our particular cultural, political, socio-economic, or ethnic biases. It was revealed. We did not schism from some pre-existing church in order to compensate for some abuse or theological error. To the contrary, our dogmas have never changed. St. George is one of two churches in Albuquerque that are canonical parishes of the ancient Christian Church. The Orthodox Church is a spiritual hospital for sinners and at St. George, that's exactly what you'll find, sinners. We are people in need of healing and Christ has offered humanity healing through The Church. At St. George you will find a diverse community of people corporately celebrating and receiving the grace of God by participating in the sacraments. We do not always do everything correctly, but by the grace of God, we want to be lights in a dark world proclaiming the mystery the Gospel of Jesus. If you are looking for a church where you can know others and be known, where the priority from the altar to the narthex is union with God, where you'll be hard pressed to find parishioners debating the merits of Calvin, Luther, Spurgeon, Edwards et. al., If you want to worship God in a Liturgy that is officiated by a priest whose ordination can be traced back to the Apostles themselves, if you want to participate in a mystical union with God that transcends whatever fad may be popular now, then by all means visit St. George. The power of God to forgive us and reconcile us to himself is alive and well in the Orthodox Church. Come and see...

Enjoy Greek dancing, Ageon Sounds band, traditional dancers, church tours, shopping bazaar and of course the food. I am reviewing for vegan food now but my past experience and my family's experience shows that the food is delicious. Don't forget to pre calculate your tickets so you don't have to make the decision while holding up the line. This year being vegan the choices were potatoes, salad without dressing and dolmas. Would love more options in the future. My family enjoyed roasted chicken, spanakopita, gyros, feta cheese with olives. It was all really delicious for them. Not so much for a vegan though, but that's ok. It is always a fun time!
