With so many canal tours to choose from, it was hard to decide prior to our trip in March 2019. However, I am very glad we selected Friendship Rederij for our tour! We had an enjoyable hour in a comfortable and low-key atmosphere, and were provided so much information about Amsterdam and the canals! I would highly recommend Friendship Rederij over a larger, more commercial boat, as this was a great experience. Our guides were very knowledgeable and easy to listen to, and the smaller boat was relaxing and comfortable. Drinks are available for purchase while on board, and they do take cards and Euros which was very nice. We were in a group of probably 20ish people. The tour was in English, which was much appreciated. The tour was extensive, and we felt like as the boat was smaller than some of the bigger, commercialized ones, we were able to view more of the canals. It was also nice that the boat is uncovered, so no matter where you were sitting, you were able to get great pictures! I thought a canal tour would be lame and corny, but I am really glad I booked this one. I learned a lot, and it never felt like the guides were boring or talking too much. I did the outdoor boat tour which was about an hour and the guides were funny and informative but also really cool and casual. With the cold weather they provided blankets/seat warmers and different warm drinks (along with a well-stocked bar). This new start up was porposed to us by our tour guide of Freedam tours as he told us that this is quite different from all other cruise companys and dam yes he was right! In an open top boat we very welcomed very warm and we can relax like in a louge there. The siph is equped with a bar which offers softdrinks, beer, vone and cocktails, so all you need to chill down. Must do! Don't waste your time getting on the glass ceiling cruises that most likely have children running around. The friendship canal cruises are a smaller boat which makes the experience more intimate especially if you are with friends or significant other. LOVED our skipper Michelle and Elena. They had great info on the cities famous attractions and made it a lot of fun. We came on a day that was lightly raining so they made it as enjoyable as possible (offered blankets) and because there's no cover on the boat we did hang out under one of the bridges for a few minutes which was still fun. What a fantastic way to see Amsterdam! The open air boats are smaller than most allowing them to pass through some of the narrower canals. Watch your head though as some of the bridges are quite low! The staff were super friendly and eager to tell us all about Amsterdam. It was a bit hard to hear so if that's important to you be sure to sit close to the captain. We had already been on a walking tour so it wasn't a priority. It was just nice to be on the water in the beautiful weather enjoying a cocktail. Note about the cocktails: I was pleasantly surprised to see some higher end liquor brands and my G&T was made with FeverTree tonic. Surprisingly good and not horrifically overpriced. The staff give you a bit of history of Amsterdam while making it relaxing and interactive. They sell drinks and munchies so you can just seat back and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We'd already taken a canal cruise as part of another tour, but it was a bright and sunny afternoon and our last night in Amsterdam, so we decided to try this one. The cruise was staffed with friendly folks (captain and tour guide). The seating was comfortable seating (indeed some were there just to enjoy the atmosphere and some off-board purchases). Microphones or speakers could be nice if you wanted to hear the tour, as the guide seemed to be focused on the few of us who cared, but it was a little difficult to hear the captain when he shared additional information. There was just enough information to make it seem like a tour instead of a booze cruise. The cruise itself was about an hour. The first grand marnier and ginger was only 3.50, but the others for 7.50. Be sure to hand in your Heineken cans when you're done or they'll blow away! read more

I had used this cruise company about 4 times. They do the best tour in Amsterdam and I've tried a few of the others. They also have a bar onboard and the night cruise is excellent. Our hotel suggested this as a canal cruise and it was FANTASTIC. The boat was an open topped boat with a big bow and stern both covered with pillows to lounge while you cruised. While being aimed at touristy it was much more interactive and personal than the huge canal cruises offered at other areas in Amsterdam. When you get on there is a hostess taking drink orders, there special is a gin and tonic with blood orange and it was so so good, even better was that it was only 3 euro. Our skipper was incredibly professional, hilarious, and knew how to navigate the canals impressively on what was a very windy day. I would highly recommend them to anyone when travelling to Amsterdam. Put your feet up, have a cocktail and explore the city from its web of canals. read more

This was a great tour, the boats are all open air (you're not sitting behind windows) and all have their own bar and bartender. Our skipper Ruben and bartender Lizzie were funny and both local students. They gave a few fun facts about Amsterdam throughout the tour and a few recommendations. My friend and I were So happy we booked this canal tour for our first night! Also, we were looking at the other canal cruise boats and all the customers looked miserably bored in their larger closed boats. Ours was great with the addition of the bar.
