Near the highway exit 38 / 38Bis in direction Welkenraedt the "Fritterie 'Chez Gigi'" is located on the right side. In the morning, when the snack bar is still closed, you will take little notice of the squared building with closed blinds opposite the gas station but at night you will see a little neon sign and a lot of activity not at least because of the excellent transport connection. Since we are in the French speaking part of Belgium, stepping into the snack bar through one of the two entries you'll be welcomed by a friendly "Bonjour" (the ladies speak very good German, too, but not sure about English though) and you'll find yourself immediately in front of a counter where a wide range of snacks wait for preparation in the deep fryer behind. On the left side there is a small separated room with tables and chairs.
I ordered a large portion of chips and in a short time got a deep plastic cup filled to the brim with the delicious Belgian national dish. Compared to the well-known portion size in Germany it is really large for a very reasonable price of 2 Euros (as of March 2010).
The Fritterie appears to enjoy a good reputation since the restaurant has been mentioned in a very positive way by our host as well as in newspaper clipping you'll find on the wall inside the restaurant. read more
