Our wedding photos are pure drool-worthy! Danny and Nina were such a pleasure to work with on our wedding day, not to mention they didn't cringe in horror over the pure and utter crazy that is my friends and family. They worked so professionally, especially in a business where you need to sort of be invisible but also personable enough to get the good shots. Were it not for the cameras, one would have thought they were simply guests at our wedding the way they blended in and were able to relate to our guests. Both Danny and Nina were very polite and responsive on email and text replies. One of the best thing about From the Hip is their website listing their prices and services they offer. I was pleased with my professional headshot cost $150 with one of their photographers Kristin. The studio is in a residential house in Stapleton but it was very professional and business like. They also do real estate HDR photos starting at $150 to help sell your house. You can find cheaper photographers on Craigslist but From the Hip is definitely top notch. read more

My group used this lovely photography stand to take a cool 3D photo and it 100% came out bloody good. I was afraid it was going to be too blurry, or too bright. Or too exposure of our flaws-- Jk. However, upon seeing the final result of the photo, my friend and I were jumping with joy!!!!! They even have this cool photo stick thing (looks like a purple light saver) and runs it all around us. Pretty unique??? The photos unfortunately are going to take a week, but when they're delivered, you'll see the magic when I post it on here. For my wedding, my wife and I rarely disagreed on things. Open bar. Done. More party than ceremony. Done. "No playlist" for music. Done. Photos. Well, we had a problem. In my own head, I didn't see the value. Wife, being the intelligent person she is, did. After talked about what we would want as far as photos, we came to one conclusion. Having never been to Denver or Vail, I contacted From the Hip along with several other photographers, but found that Nina & Danny were the most helpful. They discussed with us options for different vendors, and were great with fact that we couldn't meet with them in person, but for one time before the wedding. We had hired them for a certain number of hours, but I swear that we must have exceeded that exponentially, however they didn't charge us for the extra hours. In fact, the morning after the wedding we were snowed in and they provided a free photo shoot with us in the snow! We used From the Hip for our wedding back in August. I asked them to first do our engagement session so we could see their work before signing up with them for our wedding. We chose them because Danny and Nina were both creative, but not overbearing. The last thing we wanted was for a photographer to dictate anything at our wedding. It was their job to capture the moments and work around us - and they did a fantastic job! I also want to point out that a photographer's job does not end after the day of the shoot. You continue to work with them in getting pictures, books, CDs...whatever it is afterwards. It is important to me that they always responded quickly to my (sometimes ridiculous) desires and made me feel important even though I'm sure they had other shoots and weddings going on. This review is half a year late... and I'm so sorry for it, because they definitely deserve something more prompt to mirror how fantastic they were at keeping me in the loop before, during and after my wedding. I had the 'pleasure' (ha) of planning my wedding out-of-state--my fiancee and I moved to Los Angeles for his residency and were determined to have the wedding in Denver where our family and most of our friends still resided. Because we moved well over a year before the wedding, I didn't really have a chance to look for photographers before I left. So I thought--'what the hell, I'll just check yelp since I can never go wrong with it for restaurant recommendations.' Well, the rhetoric was crazy to be sure on that decision--but because of it, I found Danny and Nina! To compensate for my inability to meet with them in person, Danny patiently answered all of my questions and chatted nonchalantly for an hour and graciously allowed me to look at some proofs. From the get-go, I was impressed by his professionalism and friendliness--and boy is he on top of things. I never felt that he was too busy to answer my questions or get back to me by email (which was most important to me as a long-distance bride). When I realized that what I wanted wasn't in one of the packages they offered, he helped me figure out a custom package and price. He was receptive to the shot list I gave him, even though their studio is more photojournalistic than formal. I cannot say enough about how comfortable I felt in the planning process because of their attentiveness and kindness. They even met with my parents in lieu of me since they live in-state, then met with my husband and I when we managed to fly back to sign contracts! During the wedding day itself, Danny and an assistant photographer (if I remember correctly, Amanda--I'm sorry if I remember this incorrectly!) are prompt and ready to go. Because we discussed the itinerary prior to the day itself, everything goes smoothly. I loved that they allowed me to set the schedule and were flexible about where and when certain shots were taken. They provided invaluable input when what I had in mind was impractical. They even stuck around later than what was signed upon to snap some last-minute shots of our surprise choreography during the reception! And--I don't know if I could possibly rave more about them than I already have--I was able to review the proofs on a website within 30 days and received all of my photos in a relatively uncompressed format with NO WATERMARKS in less than 3 months, along with the pictures I had selected for editing. The pictures are gorgeous, with a wonderful mix of stock wedding shots and beautiful photojournalistic moments that I knew would look effortless on their parts. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart that we went with From the Hip Photography, and my one regret is that we weren't able to take our engagement photos with them as well! Ummmm. . . . . absolutely WONDERFUL. . . . .seriously. Danny was sent to our home from Airbnb to take pics for my listing. They were beautiful! He truly captured all the coolest parts of my condo, and even made the toilet look awesome!. . . .not kidding. Having done an almost silly amount of research into my own wedding photography, I think I've learned to separate the seriously good people from the seriously not good, and the vast grey area in between consisting of mediocre photogs who just charge way too much for an underwhelming product. In case you can't tell from looking at their site and these other Yelp reviews, From the Hip falls into the SERIOUSLY EXCELLENT category. They didn't take our wedding pics but have done portraits of my husband and I-- which I treasure-- and I would recommend them in a nanosecond for pretty much anything. Because really, how often do you stumble upon a photography team that a) is incredibly talented and produces work that is classic but also has an occasional and charming quirkiness, b) is super cool and easy to be around (IMPORTANT when they're trailing you for hours on the occasion of some major life event) and c) is really responsive and responsible on the business side (i.e. no unreturned calls or emails, total transparency with their business practices, etc.)? I will tell you: VERY RARELY! Snatch them up for your wedding/baby/other important life event if you can (which you may not be able to since I heard they're already booking 1+ years ahead now)!! read more

I am going to post my original thanks to Danny and Nina because it was my first impression and I think the best way to share my feelings! I am DYING! Absolutely wonderful...Nina managed to capture the personalities of my kids...and really give a picture of who we are as a family! And E...the way she looks over her glasses...she was sort of being coy, and yet very much herself that day... And can I say that I am SO HAPPY that Nina captured V's furrowed brow?!? I used From the Hip for my wedding last July. From the Hip was the first photographers I looking into when I first set out to find the perfect wedding photography. Although I checked out a lot of other photographers in the Denver area, I kept coming back to From the Hip because of their artistic style and AMAZING prices. I could not find any other photographers with better quality, photo packages, or customer service, so the choice was very simple in the end :) One of their assistants, Jenna, took the photos the day of. She had great ideas for after the ceremony photo locations and made sure we got all the pictures we wanted. She did not get in the way, and she was great at directing our large family photo. As others have commented, the customer service is OUTSTANDING! Danny is super quick to get back to you through email and always goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable (and even offers to recommend other wedding vendors for flowers, makeup, etc). We were so excited and so happy to have worked with Nina and her husband Danny. From the instant we met them we felt relieved that we had found a phenomenal photographer that we could afford who matched our style and taste to a T! Nina and Danny are awesome to work with. We took our engagement and wedding photos with them...the engagement pics came out great and Nina did a great job tweaking them. I would give them a 4.5 if I could, but I can't cause there was one teeny thing....I don't love my group pictures. Disclaimer - i had some REALLY big group shots, and I'm sure that's not the easiest to manage. To add to that, I made a crazy list of all the photos I wanted taken (a bit much, yes) and was on a tight time line the day of the wedding (typical, yes) and I'm sure Nina was trying to not rock the boat. Nina is more of a photo-journalist and while I knew that, I didn't really think through how/if it would impact the pictures. I feel that the pictures of my flowers, placecards, shots of me and the hub, or even small groups (up to 6 people) were much more composed (not sure if that is a photography word...if not, let's pretend it is) than the group shots with more than 6 people. Most of those pictures are just people in a straight line... I wish Nina had done a better job of directing the people in the picture about ways to stand (closer together, someone in front, hands out of pockets etc) and that I didn't try to get a small army together for a photo. That tip is going into my "things I'm going to tell brides-to-be to think about because they may not be thinking about" pocket. Even with that, I would still highly recommend Nina to anyone looking for a photographer. read more

They were whimsical, fun images that did an amazing job of creating their own little world. She did an outstanding job on our engagement photo shoot (I heard from a lot of people that our photos looked like a picture out of a magazine!); and an amazing job on our wedding up in the mountains even though we had some weather complications. I could not have asked for a better photographer. She was very detail oriented, and full of fun ideas to make our photos totally different than every other wedding photo! She went above and beyond what I had expected from my photographer. she even let us use her phone and offered to buy us food while we were stuck on top of the mountain due to lightning. Nina and Danny's endless creativity, fun professionalism, and pure kindness have been the reason I've hired them for 3 different photo shoots. My first session with Nina was 5 years ago, she helped me plan for a very imaginative shoot and produced dozens of high-quality shots while helping me get over first-photo-shoot jitters. From that day forward, I knew I wanted From the Hip to photograph my wedding. So, in April when my beau and I decided to pull a handmade wedding together in 3 weeks (!!!) I was over the moon excited that they were available to capture our day. I'm a designer and artist myself with quite high standards. I was able to relax completely on our big day knowing the camera was in the best hands possible. I could not be more thrilled with our photos. It was very hard to choose the best shots because they were all so beautiful, we have hundreds of keepers! Most recently, I called on Nina to do professional head shots for my new website. I'm not sure why we weren't able to make contact, but when we finally did, Danny was very friendly & willing to help. I don't think it's fair to keep my 1 star rating up, because we finally did make contact, but at the same time, I can't give a 5 star rating over a couple contacts. I'll have to save that for after I use their services. So! Since I can't remove my 1 star rating, I'm bumping it up a couple stars in fairness.
