I was on a tour with Vacations By Rail and our tour guide told us that the barbecue was very good at this place. I was not disappointed. First off, the interior is really fun and interesting. I sat at the bar. The selection of small batch locally made beer was impressive. I ended up getting an orange blossom beer that was suggested by the bartender. So good!! I wasn't very hungry so they let me order the child's plate and I got brisket. The server suggested I try the red beans and rice. I was a little skeptical because I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, and had some of the best. I was so impressed, I almost wished that I had just ordered a bowl of beans and rice. Wandering into Front Range BBQ in Colorado Springs felt like walking into someone's funky old house--if that someone happened to be a pitmaster with a love for blues music and craft beer. The smell of smoked meat hit me the second I stepped inside, and I knew I was in for a good time. I grabbed a seat on the patio, where string lights twinkled and a local band was warming up. The brisket came out tender with a perfect bark, and the pulled pork melted like it had something to prove. The burnt ends were the real show-off, though--crispy, smoky little bites of joy. Even the sides had personality, especially the spicy slaw that snuck up on me. Service was friendly and easygoing, like everyone there was happy just to be surrounded by barbecue and good vibes. Parking was a little tight, and there was a short wait, but between the music and the beer list, I didn't mind a bit. It wasn't flawless, but it was flavorful, fun, and full of character--just the kind of place that makes you want to kick back, loosen your belt, and stay a while. The food is incredible. Some of the best BBQ that I have ever had. And the portions are very generous. The rib combo plate (with brisket as the extra meat), is my go to. A stack of sliced brisket, 6 ribs, some corn bread and 2 sides (red beans and rice is a winner!) My wife always wants to try new things, most recently she tried the chicken was was really tender and juicy The sandwiches are also great. My kids love them. If I had one complaint, it seems that they have changed the recipe for the pecan pie. It used to be amazing, but the last visit there it was "merely good ". The vibe really nice and casual..the live blue grass is a bonus. Usually there is a steady diet of bluegrass, Grateful Dead, etc on the sound system. There was a time I refused barbeque outside Texas. The rub, the wood, the appreciation of the science that comes together for TBBQ is unbeatable. Having consumed the best of the best at the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival, I am admittedly, a BBQ snob. Suffice to surmise my standard is high. Frankly though, it's not 1960 anymore and though not ubiquitous, good BBQ exists in unconventional places (think: Hill Country in Chelsea NYC and Washington D.C.). Few restaurants are perfect, but BBQ is now a roadshow; found extraordinarily far from its Texas roots. The key takeaway: I'd certainly eat here again, which I can't say for most non-Texas BBQ joints. The half rack is decadent and delightful, the brisket was good with burnt ends a little larger, though not quit as rich as I've had elsewhere. I did pause for a second when my tastebuds maybe sensed liquid smoke. I truly hope that wasn't the case. All of the sides are winners. The fries, hand cut. The slaw? Perfect. The tomato, cucumber, purple onion, feta medley? Great. Front Range Barbecue, at the base of America's Mountain also known as Pike's Peak, is a must for Texans and any other Colorado Springs visitors with a hankering. Worth keeping in mind, this restaurant takes up a historic bungalow in Old Colorado City, once the territorial capital of the state. Small and intimate, you might catch a side eye if you're a loud talker, like someone I know. Lolzsies! Staff is friendly and the service is good. You know a winning BBQ restaurant when you don't need to pour their sauce on thick -- or at all. When sauce is emphasized, poured over when plating a meal or if meat requires it, that's usually indicative of lousy meat. The sauce = a coverup. The meat is good at Front Range and no sauce is needed. It is a harder BBQ test to pass and they aced it. Recommended. read more

We stopped there last weekend on Saturday, Nov the 1st and were told that that day was their last day before they shut down for a year or more for a massive renovation project..bummer. I took a time of pics for memory sake. The restaurant has a lively old world charm and rooms dedicated to different themes. The owner is from Louisiana and has lots of dishes with a southern twist. Lots to offer on the menu as compared to any BBQ place that I have been. Interesting appetizers. We tried wings and burnt tips. For the main dish they offer a combo options, sandwiches ,ribs racks and salads. I found the BBQ sauce a little watered down and missed the punch that I was looking for. The 2 ribs racks that we got one was more well done, almost dried compared to the other, which was fall of the bone and meat was juicy. The sides are awesome, we loved the potato salad, the slaw was good but we got the mid rib of the cabbage which was inedible and took most of the space of the small bowl. We even tried their day special, Corn side which was delicious. We took Banana pudding to go and it wasn't disappointing. We were promised that they might open a pop store somewhere close by in the meantime till this location is back in action. Great BBQ! The fried cheese curds were amazing! Very big pieces of cheese, battered in house. The Frontier Plate was the perfect amount of food for two - if you're a light eater, you'll have leftovers. The plate comes with ribs, and we chose the kielbasa and brisket for our two meats. The meats were tender and juicy. They had great flavor even without bbq sauce. The original bbq sauce wasn't for me. The sweet and spicy bbq is where it's at. The bbq beans were delicious, and the coleslaw was average. The mini cornbread muffins were bland and oily (that's the only thing I wish were better). The food was very tasty, especially since we came so close to closing. The fried artichokes were the best! I recommend those and the fried okra, the serving sizes are massive! Tourist review: so, so glad we stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night! We were looking for a spot to watch some college football and landed on Front Range Barbeque... excellent service from start to finish. Immediately the staff honored our request to change tables so we could be near a TV and they were kind enough to put on our game. The bartender was also our waiter and he was awesome. Hubs and I split a plate so we could try a little bit of everything. The meat was super tender & flavorful and baked beans were perfect. I'm a big sides girl and loved the crispy onions and cornbread. We don't usually eat leftovers but this time we did! The ambiance is definitely bar-type which surprised me that they had so few TVs. Excellent service and great barbecue! We made the drive here a couple weeks ago and glad that we did. Dad got the ribs and he loved them! Husband got the brisket and it was amazing - so juicy and perfect. I got the brisket burnt ends and that was one of the best I've had in a really long time. Everyone wanted to try the burnt ends. Our server was so sweet, I was suffering from a bad throat and she got me some warm water and also offered to custom make a spicy barbecue sauce for us which was delicious. Perhaps I prefer BBQ from Texas or Kansas City and don't know "southern" BBQ that well; I missed the smoky flavor here. The BBQ Brisket Burnt Ends, a dish I always try when I see it on the menu, were lovely and moist, but they missed a lot of the smoke flavor and bark I expected. The BBQ ribs, which appear to be the specialty here, were tender and fell off the bone. I once again missed any smoke flavor. I prefer St. Louis ribs to baby back ribs and appreciate that this place serves the bigger, meatier bones. And with the two BBQ sauces they offer, this helped. Both sauces were nice; the sweet and spicy was my preference, although not spicy, in my opinion. The side of green beans with bacon and onion was terrific, and this is a BBQ side I wasn't familiar with, but I really enjoyed it. The BBQ beans were OK, nothing special, but solid. My wife had a catfish sandwich, which she enjoyed. The fish was delicious, but the bun was a bit heavy in the overall balance of the sandwich. The service was excellent, and the restaurant is very dog-friendly with nice outside seating. This restaurant has much better BBQ than, say, Rudy's nearby, but I can't say I was blown away. It is worth trying, and if I'm just off base with my preference for BBQ (which does differ from region to region), take that into account. read more

This place really knows how to fry stuff. Fries, fried okra, fried pig skin was amazing. I never thought to dip fried pork skin into beans but it was so good. The pork skin was still crackling and fresh when I ate it! The fried okra batter was light and crispy. The fries are really fresh and crisp and not greasy. My sister really liked their key lime pie, and my other sister inhaled her chicken wings without the sauce. The only downside was that the meat was a bit dry at times. Not inedible, and still nicely charred though! I brought my ribs home for sure. Our servers were very attentive with refilling drinks and bringing us condiments. Wait wasn't too long-a reasonable amount of time for the amount of food we ordered. Portion sizes are great! The kitchen was really accommodating to my family member who had an allergy. Everything's gluten free (even the sweet potato buns are gluten free). There's vegan veggie burgers as well. The tables are bit close together. Watch where you wave your hands so you don't hit anyone! It was a beautiful day to sit outside. I would definitely come here again if I could! Definitely worth the money. read more

I absolutely love this place and it's the only good BBQ i've found in Colorado . The staff is just so personable and attentive. The owner cares so much about the product he is putting out, you can see him going table to table to check in. The restaurant is cozy, has an amazing relaxed atmosphere and has live music!!!! Now for the food...yes, just yes, give me it all. The catfish is just absolutely amazing, I don't think I have ever had better. The pulled chicken with double green beans is my go to for a "healthy" dinner, it's a huge plate of moist red bird. The green beans are just tasty and if you are around when they have collards definitely get them. The brisket is good but not top tier, I like mine with a little heavier bark and some more flavor. I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($13.95) and my server was nice enough to throw in a side of two mini corn bread muffins as a special request. The pulled pork could have been seasoned less (too salty) and possessed more of a smoky flavor, but the meat portion was large and was quite juicy. The restaurant is quite large and even has an outdoor covered patio which I hear hosts live music when it is scheduled. A charming spot for a protein fix with ultra large portions. If you're walking down the street in the old part of the city, no doubt your nose will lead you here! The fact that it's in an old house is so charming to me and each room has been turned into a dining space! It's very eclectic! They also have tons of outdoor seating! We were a little confused as to how far to walk in at first for seating but we were noticed soon enough and our waitress was very friendly and helpful with the menu! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and he ordered the beef brisket sandwich with baked beans and let me tell you, that meal was perfect! The pork was tender and juicy and the brisket was melt in your mouth! I also ordered a Pina Colada and it was the best I've ever had where there's no sand and salt water! Went to Pikes Peak yesterday and decided to check out Front Range Barbeque on the way home. Triple "D" had been here. The building is an old house so it made it pretty comfortable inside, no crowded areas. I ordered the Burnt Ends that came with Onion Straws on top and 2 mini cornbread muffins. Also got the Baked Beans and Coleslaw. The Burnt Ends was a split story as a number of them were burnt to a serious crunch and wouldn't even hold the sauce but the rest were nice and moist with great flavor/texture. The coleslaw was definitely different as stated it is made with cayenne pepper and has some heat behind it, if you don't like spicy I wouldn't order it. It was pretty good to me. The baked were phenomenal but very difficult to describe as they are made with a number of different type beans in a sauce that doesn't exactly have a distinctive flavor to it BUT is so tasty. Yummy The mini muffins were another great item as they had that great corn taste to them. Definitely something to order extra of. Great texture too. On to service , our waitress was Mel and she was phenomenal, explained all the different items on the menu and what the taste might be. Her and the rest of the staff were great as everyone took care of all the customers. Great place and would recommend it to everyone to try once. read more

Came at the recommendation of Guy Fieri from Triple D and it did.not.disappoint. It was all excellent including the veggie burger, scratch made in house. I could go back today and eat it again. But I must MUST shout out our server (curly hair bob style sorry didn't catch her name) she was EXCELLENT. So professional in her cadence and recommendations-superb. Guy was here and gave a good review so we gave it a try. We are in what looked like a front room of a house. It was cozy for 12 people. Service was great and she had no problem taking care of a large group. I don't have photos of my food but I had the Front Range Smoked Meat Bowl with Burnt Ends and Rice. It was deeeeeeeelish!!! The smoked burnt ends were tender and had a nice smokey flavor. The green beans had a nice snap still and the rice cooked tender. The gravy added flavor but did not mask the smokiness of the burnt ends. Sooooo good! Though the cheese curds were pretty good overall with a nice outside crisp, it wasn't my favorite. The pulled pork dish was very well cooked, and not dry and very well seasoned. The green beans was pretty good and paired well with mash potatoes. Gravy was on the side but the potatoes were buttery and delicious even without the gravy. The ribs in the combo and brisket could've been a little more juicy. What stood out was the baked beans. It was very good, it had almost a cinnamon with smokey taste to it. The burnt ends were outstanding. We've already gone there 3 times in the past 6 weeks.

I'll give two for service because she was very friendly on the phone and in person for takeout but I'm sorry... the food was terrible. The slaw just didn't have much flavor besides like mustard seeds, the green beans were like soggy canned green beans, the teeny "cornbread muffins" were dry with zero flavor of corn or anything else. The brisket was DRY AF, I had to put sauce on to eat it, which is a sin in my book. The chicken was also dry but not quite as bad. Overall, the food was possibly the worst bbq experience I've ever had. Nothing redeeming here EXCEPT the fried onions, which was meant to be just a topper. Well where do I start? I've been here a few times. Each time I come here expecting an outstanding barbecue experience, and each time I am left disappointed. I think it's time I write a review to let people know, and maybe, just maybe, the people who are responsible for the quality of the food may take notice and work to improve it. That being said​, some people may tolerate substandard food, but I'm done with this place for a long time because when you spend $100.00 for 2 people, you expect a quality meal. The front of house staff is absolutely fantastic. Polite, cordial, helpful, thoughtful. I wish I could say to the same thing about the kitchen staff. I can't help but wonder if they secretly hate their customers. I've had the burnt ends, the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, spicy coleslaw, fries, and fried onions straws. ​Out of everything I've listed, the pulled pork is the only thing that has been Top Notch. Had that on a previous visit. On another visit, when we ordered the burnt ends, burnt is supposed to be a figure of speech. Burnt ends are not supposed to be burnt to the point where they are charred and ashy. But this place excels on charred and ashy. One would think that the kitchen staff would take a look at the results and if the burnt ends look like a charcoal briquette, they would probably do everyone a service by replacing it with something that looks more like a piece of meat. Some people can't eat it that way but if you are up for a challenge, and put enough barbecue sauce on it, maybe you can manage your way through it. Last night I had the two rib combo. So did my son. The fried onion straws were delicious. The mini cornbreads were delicious but one bite and they're gone. They made up for it by giving us a heaping pile of french fries. This was not a good thing, I assure you. The french fries were absolutely disgusting. Worst thing on the plate for both of us. They were the imperfect combination of burnt, limp, and soggy. I tried a few but after stomaching the few that I ate, it was more of a chore than a pleasure. The ribs easily came off the bone, but they were almost too dry. Obviously they kept them in the warming oven so long that they just dried out and didn't want to waste food so they served​ them to us. Lastly, the brisket. The brisket was colorless, with little to no smoke-ring, it was not tender. The texture was like biting into a cold hot dog. Thee was absolutely no juice in the meet. Again, likely the results of being in the warming oven too long but not wanting to throw out dried, low quality food and waste it, they served it to us, instead of losing money. I wish I could post a video . Then you would see just how bad the brisket and the fries were. read more

It's in an old house so the eating areas are divided up making the spaces more intimate and cozy- we ate in the front room with the cute fireplace. Our party had the ribs, grilled cheese (for kiddos and they ate almost the whole thing! Most kids skip the crust, the bread tasted homemade ) the sloppy pig (featured on the show) soo good! Had to eat it in sections because it has so many ingredients on it. Had the special of the day- a hickory smoked pork steak with peach sauce, wild rice and the skinny green beans (so delicious and juicy! The flavors were top notch ) Be prepared to wait a bit for food, totally worth it! The waitress Chelsea was very personable and inviting, you felt like you were visiting her personal home.
