I had 3 kids ages 10, 8, and 6, and they weren't bored in the 90 minutes we spent there. I can't even remember everything they had but it's SO MUCH BIGGER than it looks from outside. The highlight for us was the old style western town outside that had almost everything, very realistic, and every building you could go inside and look at the old stuff. (See pics on this review). They had old banks, drug store, trains, church, and many more that were all like that would have looked in the 1800s. Very interesting. Also for the admission fee, fort of fort Benton and the other museum near it are included, and you can just go to those places next and see all the cool stuff. The AG museum was the best though. This is…read morealso the history museum for Fort Benton and has quite an impressive collection; you'd never believe it was in such a small town. This place has art, artifacts, fashion, old cars, farm machinery, information about farming and wheat, stuffed bison...it's really an eclectic collection. They open for the season Memorial Day weekend but weekdays in the off season, you can call and make an appointment for a tour. We did just that and had our own private viewing of the museum - one of the perks of a small town. It costs $10 a person and included access to the Museum of the Upper Missouri and the rebuilt Fort Benton (after which the town is named). Our tour guide was great and let us just wander around for hours while she waited patiently for us. Then she told us to get lunch and she would meet us at the next museum. Absolutely worth a visit. Plan to spend 3-4 hours here and and two more to go to the other two sites.

The information is divided into chapters and laid out going counter- clockwise. One $10 admission gets you into this museum, the Agriculture/History museum and Old Fort Benton, which has been rebuilt according the original plans. On weekdays in the off season, they will open the museum by appointment. Our guide was very gracious and we were able to get an appointment by calling an hour ahead.

We spent about 2 hours…read morehiking around the cliff area and observed a marmot and so many Prairie dogs which was incredible. They look like tiny meerkats sitting up on their mounds everywhere. The staff at the Visitor Center were very friendly and informative and it's a beautiful historic spot.

It's slow going because of the great interpretive signage that you will want to read. Do watch the introductory movie before you start with the exhibits, it'll give you a lot of context. Don't rush through the exhibits, and do as many of the hands-on activities you have time for. The centerpiece is the life-sized model of the crew hauling a dugout up a hill that stretches over several floors. The detail is incredible. When you are done take the short river walk over to Giant Springs - they are very close together and the walk is really pleasant.

This museum and air park has free entry and any non-military members must go to the Visitor Center…read morelocated at the 2nd Ave. North gate to obtain a visitor's pass. Photo I.D. is required and they conduct a background check first. If they permit your entry, you have your photo taken and you sign a document. It's a simple process but it takes a bit of time even if the office isn't busy. It was my spouse's idea to check it out and even though I have no interest in the military, flying, etc., it turned out to be a cool and informative excursion that doesn't take up hours of your time. You're best off to visit the museum before wandering the air park. As soon as you walk in the door, you watch a fascinating video that puts you in the mood to visit the rest of the facility. I'm not going to share much more because I don't want to spoil anything, but stopping by the AFB is one of the few things I'd recommend to do in Great Falls.

The fort was originally a trading post and is set up as such inside. There is also a bowl boat, birch canoe, fur trade cabin, sweat lodge, and partial tipi. In addition to those large items, there are impressive small artifact including goat least 4 feather headdresses, beaded jewelry, various animal furs, a model of an eagle trap, a model of the fort...all very interesting stuff. Everything was really impressive and admission includes access to the Museum of the Upper Missouri and the Agricultural Center/ History museum. All well worth the $10. Highly recommended.

Very impressive museum for such a small town. This museum has many items of general interest such…read moreas historic clothing and housewares, has documents and artifacts for those interested in local history, and has specific information on past and present residents which makes this an extra special place for those of with family history here. The museum is actually three buildings plus a lot showcasing antique farm equipment. The main building is a former church with two floors of exhibits - everything from fossils to old medical machinery. There is a one room school house that has been relocated to the museum campus and furnished. The third building has a Model T as well as preserved portions of other buildings, like a ticket window from the train depot and the back office from the general store, complete with original safe. The school librarian works at the museum and is happy to discuss the history, where items came from, and direct your attention to items that might interest you. There are also decades of year books, a century of obituaries, and many more archival items. Admission is free and donations are graciously accepted. They also have free post cards of the building and will open off season by request. There is enough here that they can't display it all at once, so check back for different exhibits.
