However why not, the owner explained that it had been open since February and was very popular with people wanting a return to more traditional shops.The shelves were stocked with jars of every conceivable sweet including my favourite of sweet and sours. They also had a small selection of hand made nougat and speciality choclates very tempting!! I liked their novely range of choclate bars with labels to cover every type of occasion/person, daughter, son, teacher, thank you, cheer up etc. The shop also stocked helium balloons which I have always loved.

We took the train from Barmouth here (which was a beautiful ride) to this small beach town. Whenever I see a sign that says homemade ice cream I make a beeline for it. We stopped in here after lunch at a pub down the road a bit. The line was out the door and that is never a bad sign. We both got cones and went and sat down near the sea to enjoy them in the sun. Good quality ice cream on a warm and sunny day. Never a bad thing.

What other name could you call a sweet shop really?…read more This is a tiny little shop big enough for maybe a handful of people at any one time, but it packs a mighty punch. All the old favourites line the shelves like wallpaper in the old fashioned tall pots. You pick what you want, the lady weighs it up and that's it - cue memory lane. Sherbet Lemons will always be my favourite but there are so many others too. This is also a good shop to find sugar and gluten free sweeties - which is pretty rare so fair play!

Its always nice to have a treat and this stall has plenty with a few not seen before yummies too. Today at last I got a packet of Peanut Butter M&Ms as recommended by Desta H and I'm looking forward to trying them (^_^). Noticed a few things I need to try esspecially #TAB (brings back memories from the 70's) I brought my son a Million Dollar Bar Chocolate - I would recommend this, I only had 2 squares and it was luxuriously creamy - scrummy. At £2.50 a bar, as a treat I'd say go for it :-)

Whilst Birmingham has done so much for English chocolate already, it's hard not to feel like rationing is still on when you look at all the exotic and gawdy wrappings and packaging from the American brands. Our British sweeties feel a bit bland in comparison. As Yankees is also essentially a little cart, the shop further taps into a neat sense of by-gone Americana. It feels like a tornado has picked this place up from the Magic Kingdom and dropped it here. I fully expect to hear a barbershop quartet start up as I nibble, suck and chew. Just a reminder that Yankees also does American crisps and pop - just in case you want to give your sweet tooth a day off. So, all in all, this is the place that makes us jealous of America consumerism again, I wouldn't be surprised if they also stock the nylons and tobacco I can't find.

You get a very personal service in here, and they are a nice independent retailer. Although a little pricey, the occasional treat is worth it, and you get what you pay for. The have a good variety on display and even have gift presents for your loved ones for you to buy. The shelves aren't too over stocked, but they do have a large variety of sweets, chocolates and candy for you to choose from. Try the fruit centre's - they wont disappoint. I will visit again and this place has my seal of approval.

Pierre and his wife run the store and they really are so friendly and offer a completely tailored service. Pierre obviously cares about his customers and will give you a guided tour of all the wonderful and artfully created chocolates on display, even letting you sample a few on the house. This is no Thorntons! Each piece is a work of art, from dark chocolate dipped cherries and orange peel to Champagne truffles; everything is beautifully made and packaged making a gift from Chouchoute a real treat. I always come here to buy presents for family and have a chat with Pierre. Everyone should sample some chocolates from this shop - you'll never settle for Roses again, that's for sure! I couldn't recommend Chouchoute highly enough. One of Birmingham's true gems.
