We ordered our food to go because of COVID. I think Fuji would probably be much better in person and with the atmosphere, but this is based on our to go orders. They got our order right for four people, which was impressive and always appreciated! The gyoza was my favorite part of the meal, very good! I got the hibachi chicken and shrimp, it was good, but definitely a hard meal to get to go. Two others got sushi and said it was good, but not the best they've had in Louisville. Only other suggestion is to box the sushi separetly, as it kind of mixed two rolls together and possibly label which roll is which. I'd love to try here again and go in person once Covid is more calm. read more

Placed a take-out order for Beef Udon and it was a HUGE disappointment. Very little beef and absolutely no flavor. Do yourself a favor and skip this dish. The carrots were the only 5h8ng to add color to the dish. read more

This is a pretty decent place for hibachi and sushi. Loved the fire and entertainment for hibachi, my kids always enjoy the chef's friendly attempts to toss food in their mouths. We always enjoy dinner here and have had fairly good experiences with staff. read more

Fuji is located in an unassuming strip mall in the suburbs. But if you underestimate their take out hibachi and sushi you'll be pleasantly surprised. We get this at the office for lunch sometimes and it's always a crowd pleaser. The sauces are great here. If you don't like their house salad ginger dressing, you need to rethink many things in your life including the definition of taste. My steak is always very good, but the veggies and rice standout among Japanese take out. People at my office also enjoy the sushi. Don't expect a Mount Fuji of food. I have also heard that the in store experience may not be as good. I can't judge them on that as I have only tried their takeout. Price is very fair for the category of restaurant. Great lunch place. Pretty unimpressive sums up my review of Fugi. The food, Teriyaki Sukiyaki was okay at best with the highlight being the vegetables as the zucchini and mushrooms rescued the entire dish. The steak was bland and overcooked. Service was adequate, atmosphere was adequate, prices were acceptable. I like this place for sushi. It's nice and close to the movie theatre so my friends and I come here occasionally before we go see a show. The service is sometimes slow, but the food is usually pretty good. I've never had the hibachi, but that side of the restaurant usually looks pretty busy and smells amazing, so I'm sure it's also pretty good. read more

What a major disappointment. At the door we were addressed as "who's first?!" Seated without greeting. At least at first the waiter was nice then disappeared. I'm writing this as I sit in a second restaurant after leaving this place. We were seated immediately and served drinks. It was all downhill from there. It was 40 minutes before we were offered refills. We watched a table filled and seated after us get their chef and food. Still we waited. After more than an hour, I asked for our check to leave. The chef finally arrived and announced they were out of rice but he was still going to cook and they would hopefully have some rice soon. A Japanese restaurant without rice is like McDonalds without French fries! Needless to say we left very disappointed and very hungry. Paid our bill for drinks and left. On a side note their bathroom reeked like sewer, the sink faucet was loose and the toilet bowl brush was laying out. Gross. Clearly they are understaffed. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant. For a Saturday night, we had no wait and were seated immediately. We ordered sushi and some fried rice. Food service was great and the food was delicious. Probably some of the best sushi I've had in Louisville. So why only three stars ? Gnats. There were gnats everywhere!! As soon as our drinks arrived I noticed some gnats. This restaurant is NOT for African Americans!!! The last 3 times that I've been, the blatant racism has gotten incredibly worse. Between the rude behavior, bad service, blatant disrespect & being overcharged I will not be back! It's unfortunate because I have been coming to this establishment for 5 years! Hate to rate this place a 4/5 but the sushi just didn't do it for me. The service was spot on, don't get me wrong. No issue there. Place was clean and we were greeted and sat immediately. However... If you go for sushi, you want sushi. Am I right? While theirs wasn't horrible, it was just more on the bland side. We've been here several times. The food is always good, tonight perhaps even better as our cook involved more liquids to make it juicier. For a suburbia sushi japanese steakhouse, Fuji is a very good tasting and moderately (albeit slightly more expensive than surrounding restaurant) priced placed. The quality of their fish is very good and fresh - and all prepared by actual japanese sushi chefs at the sushi bar. I've had a selection of menu ranging from their appetizers, to rolls, to nigiri, to hot food - including: rainbow row, dragon roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon, eel, tuna, yellowfish nigiri, and unadon. My recommendation would be to skip the miso soup, go for the spicy salmon cocktail appetizer. stick to your nigiri (fish over bed of rice - try their salmon, tuna, eel, etc) sushi and avoid their rolls as i've found the rolls to be of smaller quantities of fish and not as well seasoned/sauced compared to sushi in larger city restaurants. I've never had their steakhouse - but it looks very promising and I would certainly try it sometime soon. All-in-all, this is a great place to go for sushi in suburbia. However, I wouldn't rank it up there with the best sushi ever restaurants. read more

I love their sushi! I and my friends always come up on Wednesdays for their buy one roll get one free deal! Every roll I've had here is awesome! All of the sushi is freshly prepared , and I highly recommend the cardinal roll, the crunch munch, and the hot papa roll! The ginger salad is also a must! I seriously can't believe I've lived here this long and never tried this place! We decided to give it a shot on a Friday night that I was having some hardcore sushi cravings and didn't want to venture to our usual destinations. We sat in the sushi area as I'm not a fan of hibachi, but my boyfriend had the filet and chicken dinner and it was good. I had a couple of sushi rolls and two pieces of nigiri. Overall, the food was good, but the service wasn't as great. It was a good experience, but nothing to write home about. Came back from a trip around dinner time so my boyfriend and I decided to get take out. Sushi was mediocre and we both wanted udon; some soup and noodles was what we were really looking for. He got the beef and I got the tempura. There was no soup... a noodle soup dish had no soup.... For either of us. He had like 5 pieces of tough chalky beef (not a texture you want your meat) and my tempura was funnel cake batter. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was busy but when you're tired and hungry and this disappointment was called dinner, not very confident it was because they were busy. Fuji has been a "go to" for my girlfriends and I for 10 years. When we were all in college, we'd come home to Louisville on weekends and go to Fuji...special occasion, ok Fuji it is. This restaurant use to be one of my son and mines favorite places to eat. Unfortunately, that has changed due to two incidents at the restaurant. The first incident occurred a couple weeks ago when I ordered sushi and found a hair in my sushi. I was absolutely repulsed. I called the restaurant and they only think I said they could do about was have me come back into the restaurant and replace it. This solution was not the best for me since I ordered for delivery so I did not have to leave my home. The second incident occurred last week when my son and I went to have sushi. I ordered sushi and always look carefully at the ingredients since I have some food sensitivities. After receiving the sushi I noticed that one of the sushi orders was incorrect and just to be sure I asked to see the menu again to ensure that I ordered the right sushi. I informed the waitress and told her that my order was wrong. She proceeded to argue with me even when I pointed out the sushi I had ordered and how it differed from the one on that I penciled in on the menu. After this her manager came over and said it's okay I'll make you something else. I told the manager no, that's okay I'll just eat the other roll I ordered. He insisted and so I figured that since he was giving me a roll I didn't want even want that it was on the house and he was trying to make up for his waitress. However, I was wrong. When I received the bill he had charged me for the sushi he brought out. Overall, my experience at Fuji as been subpar. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone especially because there are many good sushi places in Louisville. read more

Amazing display of food art! We ordered the filet mignon for dinner. It was expensive. However, the steaks were tender and juicy. The show that the chef performed over the hibachi grill was skillful and amazing. There's a seating charge of $7.95 in the hibachi section for soup, salad, and fried rice even if you don't want anything in the hibachi menu. While our chef was amazing and funny, the host wasn't that nice. Granted that we came close (1.5 hour) to their closing time, the host wasn't happy that we wanted a minute to look over our menus. She left disgruntled and didn't come back until 5-10 mins later when she seated another couple next to our seats. We ordered 4 rolls and I was disappointed. - Rainbow Roll: Had all avocado on top! no Sashimi, is that even called a rainbow roll with no sashimi? I think we where jipped. - California Roll: Average, its a California Roll don't think anyone can mess that up - Salmon Skin Roll: Now I'm a sucker for a this roll and this wasn't even in the menu I had to special request it. Out of all the rolls we ordered me and hubby liked this one the best. Had texture and good flavor. - Unagi Roll: (Eel Roll) This was ok as well, no real fuss about it. All their sushi's where drizzled in some kind of sauce, I wish they wouldn't have because it ruined the taste of the sushi. I understand maybe the Unagi...could be drizzled but the others no... - Happy Hour: Now love this, they had Sake for $0.99 that's super cheap served warm.
