This is not a rehab, it's a penal colony. At least it was when I was there. It was overcrowded and…read moremany of us were sleeping on mattresses on the floor in the mess hall. Leadership was cold and uncaring about the physical well being of the people they were supposedly responsible for "rehabilitating." I became ill while at U-turn, and had to convince them that I needed medical attention. Instead of taking me to the hospital, they dropped me off at a bus stop somewhere in Riverside. I had a terrible pain in my abdomen, couldn't eat, and had a 102 fever, and it was 96 degrees outside. I waited hours for the bus and eventually ended up calling a cab. Once I was finally examined at the ER, they ran a CT scan and found a football sized abscess under my intestines where my appendix had burst a week before. It was a miracle that I was still alive. I was in the hospital on and off for the next few months until I could have what was left of my appendix removed. These people claim to be Christians, but treat hurting people like trash because of their views on the "power of faith", as if faith is some kind of currency that God deals in. This is a dangerous, disgraceful, and dishonest program that should be investigated and permanently closed. They are not trained or equipped to deal with mental or physical health problems, and are barely biblically competent if at all. The people running it should stop claiming the name of Christ and bringing dishonor to Him by taking his name in vain.

The church and the chapel were closed, and a camera notified us that we were being recorded. It was such an odd experience. We are used to churches being open during the day for prayer--to pray the Rosary and spend time in stillness and adoration. Unfortunately, we had no opportunity to visit the church nor the chapel.

He was joyous - that is best word to describe him! They also gave out scholarships to local students for college and he personally knew all 4 kids. Good Shepherd is warm, welcoming parish which we visited last Sunday on our trip to the Southland…read more Due to COVID, we sat outside on folding chairs, all social distanced. Services started at 8:30 am in their courtyard, with nearly twenty-five of us. We were warmly greeted by their Jr Warden Richard who was very genuine. Communion was through intinction from Rev Susan Latimer their Rector. Though at this point, I still cannot get use to the wave during the Peace, nor the face mask and plastic visor Rev Susan has to wear. Grrr. But hopefully that will be ending soon! We will be back and would recommend visiting Good Shepherd if you are in the area. PS - They also offer a Zoom service at 10:30 as well.
