Fulton Center - billed as a "shopping center", it's really just a fancier station for catching public transit, specifically the subways, with some convenience restaurants and stores located inside. There are also a number of buses that stop in the vicinity. Walking inside from street level, what you immediately notice is the very tall atrium the extends upward a couple stories to a wide, slightly domed sky light that provides some picturesque streams of light to illuminate the inside of building, depending on the time of day. There are stairs that wind around a column where you can ascend to get a closer view of the ceiling structure, and a birdseye view of the open floors below. Of course as with most NYC subway stations with more than a couple lines criss-crossing, make sure you're reading the signs that direct you to the correct lines headed uptown or downtown. To the uninitiated it can be confusing. As for stores inside, to name a few there's Shake Shack, Chik-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Gong Cha, a couple Irish pubs, Gateway Newsstand, a wine/liquor store, a barber shop, Duane Reade, Auntie Annie's Pretzels, a florist. Generally speaking this station is on the cleaner side compared to most. read more

I only use this station as pass through but I did stop by here one time for dessert! Spacious and clean! But nothing special about it

Truthfully, I mainly use this station as a "pass through on cold windy days from Broadway to my Chick-fil-a on Fulton st. Isn't that what a "hub" is supposed to do? With that said, I still like the offerings on the street level, with Auntie Anne's and Krispy Kreme right there if I need a new friend. I have also used this hub for what it is truly meant for...transportation, and you can't get a more convenient and straightforward ride Uptown than taking the escalator one flight down to and going through the turnstiles to the green line. I watched them build this from the ground up and it is a good testament to design work and efficiency of the MTA, that they rarely get credit for... read more

Been passing through here since this subway centers inception. When it first opened up, it was empty, but still had fellow straphangers hanging out inside while escaping the cold. Now that the empty spaces have occupants, it is livelier and more crowded than before. In passing, I noticed that two stores have already closed (assuming the rent is too high) yet most of the space is filled up and all shops had customers browsing and/or shopping. The multiple level dwelling is cool as you can stand by the railing and look up or down at people scurrying to catch their train. Now that businesses are in full force and straphangers are utilizing the station, the platforms are more crowded as well then before the stores opened up. It can take a newbie some time to figure out where to go to catch specific trains even with the signs signaling. It can be a maze for out of towners/tourists. Overall cool space with some cool stores and grub to catch on your way to your destination. read more

I lived in this area for a bit about 9 years ago and I remember when they closed this lil Chinese spot in the station to start building this. 9 years later it has finally opened, thats about the speed of the 5 train at rush hour but I must say this is impressive. Honestly it looks more like an airport and not one of the NY airports either,a NICE airport! Beautiful architecture, love the natural light ceiling and the winding staircase around the glass elevators. Video screens going all the time give it a sort of Blade Runner feel. Stores will be opening within the year so I think this will become a shopping and dining destination as well. read more

It seemed like an eternity that this major transportation hub was forever in construction from circa 2005 to 2014. The entrance to Fulton Street station was an obstacle from the ongoing construction as many entrance/ exits were closed, which made my commute a glorious mess as I needed the A train. The old ramps that connects the A, C trains to the 4 and 5 trains are now, sadly, gone with twists and turns of stairs and more stairs which makes it difficult for the physically challenged. I remember the original name planned: "Fulton Street Transit Center" but re-branded due to the increase in retail shops to attract traffic and drive sales in hopes as a replacement from the loss of the former World Trade Center. Fast forward to November 2014. A beautiful open public space that unifies eight (8) subway lines with a modern stainless steel appeal. The circular dome open ceiling is a piece of art in itself worthy of a look or a photo opportunity. Yes, this station operates 24/7 @ 365 days with a human being MTA token booth clerk. This is the Hub of Hubs in the New York City Subway system. Sure more money was dumped into World Trade Center portion ($4 billion), but 1.4 billion dollars is nothing to sneeze at either. They are both connected in some labyrinthine way that I can't figure out, but Fulton Center is right at the epicenter of all 11 subway lines: 2-3-4-5-A-C-J-Z-N-R-W. The hub is the long awaited connection of what used to be three independently owned subway systems: IRT - Inter-borough Rapid Transit, IND - Independent Subway, BMT - Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit. Since they were privately owned, it's an of course that they didn't design free transfers between their competitors. This created a logistical mess when all the lines were taken over by the municipal government. They tried their best but the platform signage still leaves a lot to be desired. Here's where else I get confused.... The Fulton Center oculus is not THE Oculus. It's round, it lets in sunlight, but it's called the "Sky Reflector-Net", whereas The Oculus is that $4 billion dead whale bone monstrosity with majority of the shopping. Go figure. There's a few shops in the Fulton Center, the most notable is the Shake Shack, so it's not really a shopping destination. But with the ledge by the window wall on the first floor, it has a hell of a lot more impromptu seating than the wide open dead whale carcass. I brought some tourist friends of mine here for a quick look-see. The cops at the turnstiles let us out and back in without paying the fare again, but that's not usual. At. All. But there's not much to see anyway. I was grasping at straws with what little time I had. The Fulton Center is worth every dime in the long run and a very welcome addition to our city. read more

Snazzy new subway stop down by the Financial District that has arisen out of the ashes of the 911 tragedy. 10 different subway lines pass and crisscross here. It's an engineering marvel and the architecture is terrific. Stainless steel industrial look with winding staircase, video screens, glass elevators, and a circular ceiling letting in natural light. It is impressive looking compared to the many downtrodden and dilapidated subway stops across the five boroughs. Operating 24/7 there is always a line coming in to jump on and head home. 2 3 4 5 A C J N R Z all come through here. As with everything being built nowdays in NYC the extremely bloated price tag of $1.4 billion - yes, $1.4 billion dollars for a subway hub - is another case of union greed, political graft, and overspending to the extreme. Was this new train station needed - yes, without a doubt. Is it worth the ridiculous price tag - highly debatable. At least it got me home after a late night out bar hopping recently. read more

Something special about this place. Easy to find and get to and great for meeting people! I walk here most days rather than the other stations because I know it is easy to position myself on where I need to go in the morning. This station is fairly nightmarish, but I pass through here several times a week, so I've gotten used to the convoluted transfers. Of course, construction is still going on here, and we're promised a brand-new Fulton Center Transit Hub by the end of the year. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that. They seem to have Wi-Fi in parts of the station, since I've sent SnapChats a few times--but it's not predictable. As they say, "New York is going to be a great city when they finish it!" read more

Although there is a massive multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation converting Fulton Street station in a mega transit hub, this is the worst station planning I have seen. Where formerly there were ramps to take you from the 4/5 platform to the 2/3 trains which are at the other end of the complex, now there are multiple staircases taking you up and down several levels to get through the complex. Couldn't they have designed a few escalators or at least ramps so that those who are mobility impaired can get through the complex? Speaking of escalators, what is the purpose of having on go downstairs from the downtown 4/5 platform, down stairs, up stairs and up another set to get to the uptown side, down stairs to get to the A/C platform - walk through the platform to go up more stairs to get to the 2/3, only after all of that up and down to finally reach an escalator? Hopefully the station will reach full fruition soon - before I have great grandchildren and I am unable to walk, or before they create hoverboards to avoid the staircases read more

I'm a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. Somehow, walking through this center had me feeling like a tourist in my own city. I played it off like I knew where the train was when I really was like....ummm hi, which way is the 3 train??? The city spent way too much money on this project for folks to need directions to the train...IN THE TRAIN STATION! However, it's clean (for now), heated or cooled according to outside temps, transfers to the 4/5, a/c, j/z, 2/3 trains and I believe the R. Expect plenty of retail stores in the near future because there are several empty spaces for rent. read more

I'm not sure why this center was even built. What was a it another muilti-million dollar MTA idea that they thought would bring in a retail outlet in a transportation hub? I can understand the idea but why here? It doesn't seem all that grand. For the most part there are many people just hanging out by the windows and not much shopping going on. The only shop getting much business is the Shake Shack on the third level that you have to take a elevator up sharing another level with a WeWork. The ground level where -the squatters- are by the window have several retail shops like the chocolate Neuhaus, Freedom Wine Cellar, Buttercup Bake Shop, a cell repair shop, Irving Farm Coffee Roasters. What else is there? Not much. On the lower level where all the Subway train lines are such as the immediate 4/5 Green Line and then a walk to the 2/3 Red Line, J/Z Brown Line, A/C/E Blue and N/R Yellow line, etc...don't hold me to those exact details but what I recall. The retail I remember is the Dunkin' and The Wasabi, Sushi & Bento which has some decent, well, bento boxes for $10 and a la carte sushi for like 2 for $2.50/$3.50 a roll sort of lunch package. For a small little sushi spot they carry handful of enticing items like the Pocky, bentos, sushis and +points for the various drinks. As a transportation hub it is decent for it connects all those lines but required a bit of walking. As a hang out spot it lacks entertainment & grandness and provides an unnecessary hang out area for loitering. As a retail location it needs better vendors. All in all it is an okay but not great mall-like transportation hub. read more

This place is a bigger mess than an episode of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." There is construction everywhere and it seems that you are detoured at every turn. During the summer it is literally the hottest station as heat seems to just radiate in the station. I can not wait until they actually finish the new hub. This is one of those rare "pretty" subway stations. When I worked downtown, they were still in the process of remodeling this place to what it is today. Recently I had to go downtown for work and finally was able to experience this station. The layout may be a bit confusing for some but there is signage everywhere so if you can read, you'll eventually find your way. There are also a bunch of exits to street level but they all leave you in pretty much the same area. The station is brightly lit, which is nearly unheard of when it comes to the NYC subway system. There are shops and places to linger around before going through the turnstiles to catch your train. A ton of subway lines run through here which makes it convenient for transfers and such. If every station could look even half as nice as Fulton, NYers may be a wee bit happier. But with the snazzy new stations comes a serious cost and then we end up paying far too much money per ride. The endless construction here is a pain in the butt!!! It's also a terrible place to be when it's hot outside or just rained. That being said, at least you can get to many train lines on here. This incredibly well connected hub was right around the corner from our hotel. A massive station with multiple entrances across an entire block, it can be intimidating the first couple of times. After a while, it became one of my favorite travel spots. The ease of traveling from this location made the rest of our NYC adventure go so smoothly. There's even a nice collection of shops inside if you're in the mood for a quick bite or drink. Not much else to say. It's terribly convenient and easy to navigate. read more

A conveniently located transportation hub with a mini mall-like selection of stores and eateries. Would I be making any special visits here? No, definitely not but if you're nearby and in a rush or need something quick on the go it's not a bad option if you're willing to pay "city prices" for the things you want. It's nicely designed and spacious for even the biggest rush hour crowds with the exception of the stairs and escalators which create a bottle neck for foot traffic. I was staying about two blocks away, and this station is super convenient...I just didn't realize it at the time. But no worries, I'll be back! The station connects 8 different trains including the 2 and 3 which can get you to Times Square, 4,5, A, C, J, and Z. I took the C train to the get to the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The station is very clean unlike most subway stations in the city. It has a sleek modern feel to it with multiple levels and stainless steel design. There is a Shake Shack here for all my Shake Shack fans out there! But if you're looking for a quick coffee or breakfast before grabbing a train, there's also Dunkin Donuts. Other stores include Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Island of Treats, Pressed Juicery, The Great American Bagel Company, Wasabi Sushi & Bento, and Wetzel's Pretzels. Also there's a PNC Bank as well which is super helpful and convenient. read more

Although it's annoying how a lot of money is being allocated to these kinds of projects(while subway fares have quickly spiked throughout the years), the Fulton Center itself is very...very...hmm...I can't seem to find the word to describe it: a-ad-admir--no. Well sort of, but that's not the exact word I'm looking for. Uh...ahp... Appreciable! That's more like it! The Fulton Center really showcases how far the human civilization has come in terms of the arts, architecture, and technological innovation. It is one gargantuan structure that's structured like a plaza: there's a Shake Shack, and a few other establishments here-and-there, circling a very large, open space. If you look up, there is what appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Not a literal tunnel, dummy, but similar to that. It feels awe-spiring when all this natural light from seemingly out of nowhere shines down on you... Call me crazy, but this is how artists derive their inspiration: from things that make them feel a certain way. #deep Aside from that, being that this is a review, it's easy to get lost in here if you don't read the signs correctly. Last time my friend brought me pop karma popcorns from this place and I instantaneously fell in love with this shopping/transportation center. Trying to find your train in this station will make you feel like a character in 2014 dystopian teen movie The Maze Runner. You must go up and down many flights of stairs in different places from different tracks and avoid being fooled by confusing signs. The worst is trying to find the Jamaica JZ. It's not by the Broad Street JZ, because that would be too easy. The signs tell you to find it at the AC track. Once you are at the AC track, the signs point to the 2-3 track. Then, the signs start pointing back to the AC track. The trick is to find a secret staircase that goes down into the Jamaica JZ track from the AC track. I've never been successful, I think its just an urban legend and it doesn't actually exist. The architecture firm who designed this labyrinthine piece of crap station, HDR, needs to be fired and publicly humiliated. read more

The Fulton Center formally known as Fulton/Broadway- Nassau subway station was only revamped on the street level and levels to get to the different subway lines. The platforms weren't changed and it is still difficult to get to the J or Z lines as it was before. read more

The Fulton Center is beautifully designed, modern, and clean BUT the most NIGHTMARISH, FRUSTRATING, CONFUSING STATION in all of NYC! About twenty other people and I were pacing back and forth, heavily panting up and down the stairs of this station. Why? The signs here are very misleading. They direct you down to the lower platform for the AC (and whatever else trains are supposed to depart from there), but once you reach the bottom of the stairs, you realize that the tracks are closed off. You're forced to climb back up the stairs, only to repeat the down-and-up process again and again until you feel like you've been going full speed and resistance on the stairmaster for a whole hour at your local gym. Maybe this station is NYC's way of getting us to exercise more. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating about how many times we had to walk up and down stairs to the wrong platforms, but UGH. At least put signs up saying that the platform is closed before making people spend all their energy going down and up the stairs! Think about all of the elderly and people with disabilities! read more

They certainly haven't wasted any time filling this place out with extracurriculars... no longer just a hub for mass transit (the 4,5,A,C,E,J,Z,R,2, and 3 can all be accessed from here), the Fulton Center boasts a number of eateries, shops, and areas for one to just sit down and chill. The interior possesses a clean modern aesthetic, and can be viewed as the standard moving forward; shiny metallic finishes, a lot of glass, and multiple levels certainly make for plenty of photo opportunities (she's a really photogenic gal). The transportation component, fortunately, is easy to navigate. Large signage and a substantial amount of room (at least as far as the walkways between platforms are concerned... the platforms themselves are as cramped as ever) make life easier for all you serial communters). A word of advice to those who traverse via the 4 & 5 lines... if it's possible for you to get on at Wall Street when taking the uptown trains (without adding too much additional distance to your travel), I suggest that you do so. It appears that plenty of passengers end up filling the uptown trains from that station, making it quite a daunting prospect of trying to squeeze in at the Fulton stop. #1 Suggestion: Station upstairs needs benches. Everyone sits around the window ledges because there are no benches. #2 PRO: it's air conditioned in the summer and warm in the winter so waiting for someone inside the Fulton station is perfect. #3 PRO: This station is brightly lit. #4 PRO: There is musical performances in the middle once in a while. #5 HUGE CON: HUGE BLUNDER There is no free transfer between the 4/5, A/C,J/Z, 2/3 and R train even though there is a corridor to connect the other trains to the R. You have to pay a second fare to transfer to the R train. That is NOT COOL. That is such a waste. #6 PRO: The 4/5 and A/C are easy to find #7 CON: Good luck finding the J/Z and 2/3! #8 CON: The glass entrance doors are mad heavy. #9 PRO: When the WTC hub is open then the corridor between Fulton Street station and WTC will be useful especially when raining or snowing. #10 CON: The retail spaces are empty. Hopefully they fill them soon and open up. #11 PRO: It's clean now but I hope the MTA keeps it this way. The MTA has a problem with keeping their stations clean. #12 CON: Used way too much money to redo Fulton Station for there to be any blunders. When I lived in FiDi, it was always just a bit too far and a bit too confusing for me and thus always put me in a crappy mood. Then I came back for a visit and had to descend into this station once again, only to find that it was completely flooded and still flooding. Hours later, returned to find that the flooding had stopped... only to be replaced by an experience that is what I'd imagine it would be like to walk straight into a pile of steaming dinosaur poop. read more

I frequent Fulton center regularly. I go to certain stores. This mall needs more shoes and clothing store. They also need more restaurants such as "Cheesecake Factory". They need to play music through out the mall. The mall is kept clean and has a good amount of security. read more

The construction is coming along nicely. The improvements to the 4/5 platforms are appreciated and the new-ish entrance on Jay St./B-way is nice. I still prefer the Broadway/Nassau name rather than Fulton. (At least some corporation didn't pay the MTA millions to rename it after them though. Ahem, I'm looking at you Barclays.) However, exiting the A/C up to street level...smells worse than my cat's litterbox. read more
