I found my special keepsake item to remember our Florida trip from here. Since we have chickens I was drawn into the wacky idea of a store and came across one of the painted metal chickens named Gabe. I was an instant "I HAVE TO HAVE IT" feeling. But I told myself to not act in impulse and continue walking down the street. I couldn't get my mind off how awesome the chicken sculpture was all night so we made our way back to the store at the end of the night and took Gabe home with us :) I am so pleased with my purchase, and I'd say it was reasonable for a must have item $62. They are able to take the chicken tale off, because it clips right back into the sculpture and bubble wrap and cardboard up the whole thing so we could safely take it back home with us on the plane. I love this chicken, it's a priceless memory of our Florida trip. Gabe is so quality and cute and brings me joy everyday when I see him in our home. read more

Funky chicken store is funky! Lots of great whimsical chicken-themed items. It appears to be a fairly new business, so C and I were happy to support them by buying gifts for friends and family back home. Mind you, this is not like the other ticky-tack gift shops that line Duval Street in Key West. The merchandise is of good quality. The store owner was very nice. She took her time to chat with C and me. I appreciate the uniqueness of this store. I hope that it succeeds and is around for a long time! read more

Nice gift shop store , many gift options , in a good spot , nice staff would visit again

So we had walked by the funky Chicken store several times over the course of a few days in key West and particularly liked one of the paintings in the window of a rooster and was intent on purchasing it. So on a hot day we walked by and decided to check it out. I was dripping in sweat and asked the owner very politely if he had a paper towel and his reaction was something I never expected! First of all the music was so loud I couldn't hear him and he was saying that they didn't have paper towels. I asked a couple more times thinking he had not heard me.. Obviously frustrated with me he started yelling at me saying that " we are GREEN. WE DON'T HAVE PAPER TOWELS WE HAVE CLOTH TOWELS THAT WE WASH!" He could see the sweat poring off me and went on to yell that he is in charge of what he does here and that he will not have any paper towels in his establishment. And I said we were ready to purchase a few items from the store but that ain't going to happen ever. That's how you let $200 walk out your store. read more

Owner was gracious and informative as we browsed artwork and trinkets. Appreciate his strong emphasis on "buy local" and support to local artists. Unique paintings on stretched and unstretched canvas. He also has a coffee shop on Front Street with coffee from Bali. Worth checking out. read more

This store contains some pretty cool stuff, but let me tell you the staff was not! On our visit to this store we had previously gotten some drinks because it was really hot out, and when we went to the store after being told it was amazing! The staff strictly told us to put our drinks down! While we were looking around the store one of the people I was with wanted to take a picture of some key chain, then the lady said "no pictures this is a gallery" when he wasn't even taking a picture of the art plus some of the other art galleries we went to allowed us to take pictures! Let's just say I had a very unpleasant experience at this store, which had some very expensive things that I could have bought a lot cheaper at other places! Strict and unpleasant is what I have to say about my experience I don't suggest going there and I know I won't myself! read more

Blaring music kept our trip extremely short. We entered and the woman was pointing at something on the wall while trying to tell us something. Neither my wife nor I could hear a thing she was saying. I even said, "It's really hard to hear you with the music," to which she just shrugged and went back behind the register. Cute place! The owner was friendlier the first day and seemed bothered that we were back to buy gifts. We purchased an adorable "hand blown" glass rooster as a gift and we were stoked to find something original and fun. Passing through the Mallory Square Gift Shop, we found the exact glass rooster for $5 cheaper. Disappointed that this sweet little store wasn't as cool as we thought. read more

Funky Chicken Store is a retail shop on Duval Street, in the center of gay culture in Key West. During Gay Pride and we were asked not to stand in front of the store, to lean or sit on the concrete wall in front of the store before the Gay Pride Parade. The clerk said she was afraid that we would obstruct the view of the chicken products she was trying to sell. She not only asked once, but twice. Is this the attitude you want a store on Duval St to have during Gay Pride? Do not support this store that makes the attempt to disrespect the community of which it is a part. read more

The Store itself is interesting if you like chickens. They have all kinds of interesting chicken merchandise including T-shirts, art work, signs, etc. However, the owner doesn't seem to know her own merchandise. I went in looking for a T-shirt in the window and told her which one, she even took a look at it. The she showed me a different color one on the shelf. When I asked if she had the same one in the window, she said the one on the shelf was it, its just that the one in the window was faded by the sun. I looked around the store for all of 30 seconds and found the color t-shirt from the window display. When I brought it up to her, I asked if she was the owner or just worked there. She said she was the owner. She had no interest in being helpful, and was not friendly at all. The store also closes early on the main strip where most shops and restaurants are open late. read more

Unique store, but the people that work there are horrible! Rude, rude, rude! Zero customer service skills! I really wanted to buy some things there as I did not see them elsewhere in Key West, but the owner/counter persons attitude was so bad, I could not reward her behavior to me and other people in the store. This cute, fun shop opened in August of 2014 and is now the only chicken store on Duval Street. They have lots of chicken-related art from local artists, and all things chicken you can imagine. Colorful and well-presented. Certainly one of the highlights on Duval Street. Not to be missed as this is a part of real Key West. read more
