It is a bit like Wilkinsons but that much bigger and therefore probably better. We took a blind back the other day which was the wrong colour and their returns department were no problem at all and gave us a full refund without any hassle. This will definitely become a regular haunt for us as they seem to sell everything and none of it is too pricey - the issue of quality we will not be certain of for a few years yet.

They have a good variety of tools and seeds, a wide range of pots of different quality and the usual assortment of garden ornaments. I was sorely tempted by the water-features, until I looked at the price labels! The cafe is quite spacious and has a terrace of about half the size again. The only problem is that I think £1.45 for a pot of tea or £2.25 for a capaccino is expensive. I did have a wonderful Ice-cream Sundae with 3 flavours chosen from 14(see photo)for £.3.50.

Crooklands is quite difficult to get to unless you have a car. there is a bus stop two hundred…read moreyards beyond it coming from Ulverston, but no pavement in between. it is worth the effort. the plants are well laid out and clearly labeled. it has it's own nursery attatched. the utilitarian items, such as tubs, forks and hoses are expensive. there is a very good cafe, with a terrace of about the same area as the cafe itself. they do full meals, I saw a party of people having the "Afternoon Tea" which was gorgeous looking. my capaccino and chocolate cake were scrumptious. they offer a garden design service which I havn't used, so can't comment on.

Based on Duke Street in Barrow, Dandy's Furniture sells higher quality furniture. Everything from…read morethree piece suites to dining tables, beds and wardrobes. The furniture can be quite expensive, but it is generally of very good quality, made from proper wood rather than MDF or chipboard. The shop is spread over two floors with living room furniture downstairs and bedroom furniture upstairs. They have an awful lot crammed in, and sometimes it looks a little cluttered. The staff are very helpful and you can tell they know their products and are comfortable talking about them. They are not pushy and give you plenty of space to wander around looking properly at all the items they have to offer. They also sell smaller items, such as good quality ornaments.

Barrow is very proud of its Debenhams - we don't have many shops, but this is a good one! A huge…read moredepartment store covering 2 big floors, with a car park on the roof so you don't have to carry your shopping too far! It has everything from womenswear, kids, menswear, cosmetics, accessories, sportswear, lingerie, home items, gifts, wedding listthe list goes on! It has also brought Warehouse, Faith and Jane Norman clothes and shoes to Barrow in the form of concessions within the store, which is great as we didn't have those stores before. It has a cafe on the first floor so you can take a well-earned break from your shopping trip for a cup of tea - they do a fantastic breakfast for £3.50 (until 11.30am) and a lunchtime menu as well. It has full disabled access with lifts and escalators as well as the stairs, and is always clean and brightly lit. The staff will annoy you by asking if you want to open a Debenhams account card even if you're only spending £1 - but it is actually one of the better account cards out there, as they send you offers throughout the year and have special cardholders days. If you can't be bothered traipsing round lots of shops and want to get everyone's Christmas presents in one place this year, Debenhams will have something for everyone!

There is also a reasonable sized garden centre, and upstairs on the second floor there is a kitchen and bathroom showroom. Homebase is not as cheap as some other DIY stores but the service is generally better and the staff are much more helpful than elsewhere. However, very often there is a lack of staff on the tills, making the queues quite long at times. Homebase also has a rather nice range of ornament s and mirrors to set off any decorating jobs.

I've seen everything in there from bread and milk, toiletries and chocolate through to suitcases, ironing boards, batteries and kids toys. It's a bargain hunters paradise - you will go in there for 1 thing and come away with something else entirely! It's quite cheap anyway, and their 75% off sales are famous - you can get kids toys for a couple of quid, and sometimes Christmas decorations for 25p! They have a good homeware section upstairs, which is the first place I go to whenever I need a photo frame, ironing board, lamp, cushion, duvet etc. The toiletries section downstairs is also well laid out, with good prices and a good selection of items. The staff are lovely, and always have time for a chat - they also get involved in a lot of charity days, so you'll often see them dressed in pyjamas or some other random outfit with a charity collection bucket at the end of the tills! Located right opposite the town hall, in the town centre, next to all the bus stops - you can't miss it!

We have always found their customer service for returns very good and helpful and we have never had a problem in bringing back unsuitable or excess DIY items. You have to choose which goods you buy carefully as somethings are not wonderful quality. we usually buy brand makes from Wilkos rather then their own brand as then the quality is better but the prices are still cheap

I've browsed Carpetright a few times, but only purchased carpets from here once. I find the…read moresalesmen a little too pushy. They have a good selection of carpets and always seem to be have one sale or another. They also often have a large selection of roll ends at the back of the shop which are set sizes and prices, but I've never managed to see a carpet I like in the size I would need. The carpet fitters are self employed fitters, but the arrangements for fitting the carpets can be made through the store, but payment is made separately to the fitter themselves. However, its normally cheaper to find a fitter elsewhere. As I said I find the sales staff pushy, and this puts me off buying, I would rather be able to browse and ask questions if necessary, than have someone follow me about.

They have a limited but varied selection of beds, however they tend to cater more for adults beds than children's beds. When I went to look for new mid sleepers for my children I found there was nothing available. However, when I went to buy a bed for myself the choice was good, and the prices were reasonable. I selected the bed I wanted which was in stock, and asked when it could be delivered, and basically they said any time I wanted. I had several things to do, so I said in about an hour. And one hour later they turned up with the bed. They also put it in the bedroom, unlike deliveries from Argos where they have cited health and safety as a reason to leave the beds in the hallway.
