I highly recommend this repair shop because they are extremely knowledgeable, experienced, up front and will do repairs right. When I took my truck in for an AC issue, John went above and beyond and diligently traced an issue that was not fixed correctly by another mechanic. I know from experience that most repair shops wont make such an effort and replace unnecessary parts or they lack skills or expertise. But there are no surprises at this shop. That sounded like a completely insane response so I asked to clarify if they were too busy, but no, they confirmed he literally, in fact, just "didn't want to do it." Called and inquired about headlights and an oil change for our Honda CRV & Jon was able to give me answers and accommodate me for an immediate appointment the following day. I needed a mechanic for my car when I was out of town for some basic work. Of course, when you're not home you have no friends or neighbors to give you referrals to their spots, so thanks to Yelp, I found G&S. They were friendly, helpful, and got me take care of quickly! They knew I was from out of town, and I still felt like their prices were fair, and they didn't push anything extra. It was late Saturday and our escalade needed a new battery or alternator. We also needed to leave town Monday. I read reviews for the places open on Sundays and decided not to risk it. I sent a message to G&S assuming I would not hear from them prior to Monday morning, at best. To my surprise, they responded Sunday saying to bring in our car Monday morning and they would work us in. They worked us in quickly and fixed the issue. The blow motor in my car stopped working during some of the hottest weather of the summer. I put off taking the car into the shop because I was very busy and was worried the job would take too much time or be too expensive. Once the temps got up above 100 I couldn't handle the heat any longer and I needed air conditioning back. I found G & S on google, and headed straight there after class. They fixed my car up within two hours, and I wish that I had just taken it there sooner. 10/10 recommend. read more

If you EVER need automotive help...this is the place! My daughter is a student at OU...6 hours from home. She started having problems with her older model "college " car and called home crying. I saw a recommendation for G&S and sent her there sight unseen. John has worked with her...been honest and treated her like he would family. He had her come in weekly to check her oil and showed her how to check and add oil to an aging car so she could safely get home. If you have a kid at OU and they need their cars looked at and worked on, you can't find a better place! My kid has a car with 250,000+ miles on it, and they have brought it back from the dead on more than one occasion. What I like is they will tell you: "If you were going to have this car for five more years, you should do X,Y, and Z, but if you are just trying to get it up and running again for another year, you can get away with doing just Z." That makes a big difference to a college kid on a budget. Also, it's within walking distance of campus, so your kids can drop off/pick it up really easily. These guys rock. So great to have peace of mind that my daughter's car has a trusted place to go when it needs some TLC! read more

If you are looking for a good mechanic, it probably means your car broke down and you're probably not in the mood to read a bunch of adjectives. I know enough about cars to say with confidence that you can bring your broken car here and they will fix it, and when they tell you something needs to be replaced or repaired, it actually does. I also get the impression that these guys not only take pride in their work, they may actually enjoy it. The only other thing I think is worth mentioning is that they are also really really good at their job- I gave them a pretty complex repair, they said the parts would be delivered to them on Monday morning, and I'd have my car Monday evening. Surprisingly, it was done at around noon on Monday. I don't have to visit the mechanic's often, so I don't know how you're supposed to feel when you go to their garage, but I felt like I was picking my car up from the hospital, and the doctor was saying my car friend was going to be okay. Of course, because of malpractice suits a car doctor can't actually come out and say, "Your car is going to live for another 10 years" but the guys who operated on my car wished us farewell and waved to us as we drove off... okay not really, but the guys in the waiting room who came to see us off (in spirit) gave me the impression that my car may actually have many good years ahead of it, and something told me that if it did, that would make them happy. My van had been overheating for about 18 months, getting so bad toward the end that I'd had to stop every 3/4 mile to let it cool off. I admit I'd been scared to take it in and be told it'd be some thousands of dollars to fix. But it had really come to a head. I looked here on yelp at reviews for different garages and made the choice to go to G & S. They went for the most likely culprit and, sure enough, that was the problem. Not only that,, but they caught something that was a problem in the making and I took care of that, too. Had a major engine oil leak on a cross-country trip and went to this place to get my car checked out because it was close to where I was staying. Initially they said the tube (forgot the exact name) was bad and it would need to be replaced and cost something like $200. When they called back, they said after looking at it, the tube was fine and only needed to be tightened. 5 stars for being honest and catching the real problem. After getting it fixed I had no problems for the rest of my trip. read more

I recently went for an AC repair. Like others in Norman, they also just rip people off. They charged me over 1000$ for compressor change which was no more than 600$ job. First, they said that the compressor kit is worth 700$ when I later found out that the kit is available on auto zone for under 350$. Then, they charged too much labor. I would not recommend anyone to go there as they are not honest. They also said that since I did not spend an extra 500$ for changing expansion valve, there is no warranty of products. Only god knows, what they have put in and how long will it work. read more

Our son is a college student from TX doing an internship in a surrounding city close to Norman. For some reason or another both of his headlights went out; therefore he was not able to drive at night! As soon as had a day off I began researching auto repair shops! Not knowing anyone in the area I turned to Yelp recommended by my coworker! I read several reviews and chose G&S because of the great reviews! My husband called and spoke with Lisa! She was very kind, understanding and compassionate! They had just returned from vacation and were very busy! But She was able to work our son in to diagnose the problem that same afternoon! Lonnie was able to look at his headlights and gave us a quote! He explained to my son what he thought the problem stemmed from, making my son feel very comfortable with his explanation! Because it was very reasonable we ordered the parts right away! He worked with our son to coordinate an appointment on his next day off! When that Monday came around they got him in early, took only about an hour to complete the installation, sent him on his way knowing he had to work that same night!
