This restaurant has specific lunch and dinner menus, so make sure you plan ahead. We wanted to try the bone-in grilled chicken but that is only on the dinner menu. The food is excellent and high quality. I found the pricing is very fair for the set meals and bowls, but quite high for the sides and portion. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was below average, highly dependent on the server you get some are not as friendly as others and they seemed busy. Fried chicken thigh and breast - 5/5, WOW! The fried chicken is so tender and juicy! The batter almost reminds me of tempura, it's so light and fluffy! The set meal is such a good deal with miso soup, cabbage salad, pickles, and rice! Chicken ramen - 5/5, really good chicken broth and al dente ramen noodles! On the saltier side for sure. Potato salad - 4/5, Delicious, but very small portion for the price Cabbage salad - 2/5, expensive for the price as it's just shredded cabbage with dressing.

Wonderful and attentive service. Recommend making a reservation. Definitely get a variety of dishes. Food is best shared! Flavors and textures were spot on. Best karaage I've had in Torrance. The garlic rice was good but not worth the price. Cold appetizers are worth it during happy hour- $2 off! Would love to come back for lunch to try their set menu.

Gaburi Chicken in Torrance, located in Torrance, is their first location in the United States. They serve Japanese Fried Chicken. After taking one bite, I knew that this is a place that I'd come back to. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. My wife got it as a rice bowl, and three small pieces were served over rice and with a side of miso soup. I got it as a plate with four pieces of chicken, a side of rice, a side of cabbage with yuzu vinaigrette, miso soup, and pickles. The chicken is basically a really good karaage chicken that you can enjoy with rice. It doesn't need any additional sauces because it's delicious; however, they give you togarashi chili flakes, mayo, and some sauces for free. I paid $1 for yuzu pepper and $1 for garlic sauce (served on the side) and both of these enhanced the flavors. Overall, this is a really good version of Fried chicken, and I think it would be great to complement it with beer. They have indoor seating and patio seating, but they were quite busy and they have a small team, so there was a wait for a table and service was slow. I would love to come back regularly and the chicken is craveable, but it is a drive for me. I hope they expand beyond the south bay!

Mentai mayo = yummy, creamy, savory

My simple meal consisting of excellently seasoned fried chicked and small dishes of steamed rice, miso soup, and edamame was so satisfying. Chicken and rice may seem basic, but deep-fried dark meat chicken done right, like at Gaburi Chicken, is a comfort food that never fails to make me happy. I enjoyed their chicken a lot because they were flavorful and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Not too chewy or full of tendons. The coating was not greasy, and it was almost airy. The savory chicken didn't really need a sauce, but the mentai mayo I added to my meal was tasty. Two thumbs up for all of the flavors and textures. The restaurant is on Marcelina Ave with some parking directly in front, but we had to park down the street and walk over due to some road closures. Inside is small and simply decorated, and the enclosed outdoor patio had a few tables available for dining. Staff were laidback yet attentive, doing their best to manage the lunch rush. Food did take a while to come out, but it was worth the wait.

So I went to this super popular Japanese restaurant in Torrence called: Gaburi Chicken. It was absolutely fabulous. I first had chicken gizzards, which had a nice soft crunch with a kind of rosemary seasoning. Next, I had the half chicken (baked) that was cut at the table. What makes this chicken special is the seasoning and sauce. Cheese was also added to the chicken as well. It was oh so tender and juicy. It had to be the most tender baked chicken I've had. I also had skillet fried garlic rice over eggs which was also seasoned real nice. It was prepared with house made soy sauce along with a special chicken broth. It was amazing! Also, what a great price point.

I came to Gaburi Chicken for dinner with my family on a Saturday night. It wasn't too crowded when we got here but by the time we were seated it got pretty busy. There's indoor and outdoor seating so we were able to bring our dog with us to eat outside. There are a few tables outside in like a patio area and inside there's a bar and some TVs that were showing some games. The service was really good, almost too good. We had 3-4 different servers that came to take our order when we first sat down and a few that came by to offer our check. I was worried they were going to put in multiple orders but everything was organized by table number so it worked out well. Throughout the meal different waiters came by to check on us and all were really nice and helpful. For food our family shared a bunch of dishes. We started with the miso chicken cutlet and fries. The fries came with a seasoning and we got the truffle salt. The salt was surprisingly really delicious and held a truffle flavor somehow. The fries were nice and crispy and really good with the salt shaken up with them. The chicken cutlet was pretty good with a nice sauce on it. It was breaded like chicken katsu and came on skewers but I think we could've just stuck with the regular fried chicken. We also got a chicken tortilla pizza that was one of their newer items. I actually enjoyed this a lot and wasn't really expecting that. The cheese was really nice and the chicken was tender and juicy. For our main dishes we got the bone in chicken plate, garlic rice, and 3 combo fried chicken. The fried chicken was juicy and tender, literally falling off the bone and the outside was crispy and had a really good savory flavor. The bone in chicken plate was also very flavorful. The waitress came by and cut up the chicken for us. When our garlic rice came the waiter prepared the rice by pouring the juice from the chicken over it and adding in some shoyu which made it delicious and almost like a meal itself. Overall I really liked all the flavors of the food but I felt like it was a little too greasy for me. I don't eat a lot of greasy foods so I know that's a personal thing as the rest of my family really loved all the food with no complaints. I think I would enjoy this place every now and then but I don't think I could eat too much at once or too often. They also have some cold dishes that might help break up all the grease. I'd recommend this place for anyone who enjoys karaage!

This was my first time coming here and it was pretty good! The shaka shaka fries (seaweed salt) were super yummy and salty The gabukichi-kun salad was a generous portion and the dressing was good (but had a little too much dressing imo) I had high expectations for the fried chicken and although it had good flavor and was juicy, it definitely needs to be crispier!! It was not crispy at all My favorite food item was definitely the Bone-In chicken, it is big and is incredibly juicy and flavorful. Better than the fried chicken The garlic rice was tasty but the portion is kind of small considering it is $9. The service is good, and be sure to make a reservation if you can, it gets pretty busy. Overall, was yummy and I would go again. But please make the fried chicken crispier!

100% order the chicken. This is a Japanese style izakaya which also feels like a sports bar and is open late everyday. Great portions for an amazing affordable price. I wish I ordered their other dishes to try. Their signature gaburi chicken was only 18 dollars and can definitely feed two people. The gizzard ($7)were also perfectly fried and I loved all the sauce and dipping option that they had. However I would skip the garlic egg rice at ($9). The portion is super small for 9 dollars, I only got it since on the table it seemed like they did a promotion for it but I think it didn't apply which I was kind of disappointed because the waiter cut up the chicken before we could participate in the promo since they said the whole chicken leg needed to be in tack for the photo. The chicken was flavorful, juicy, perfectly cooked, and a great contrast to the fried chicken gizzards we had. Ended with the matcha tiramisu($7) which was really good and not too sweet with a strong non bitter matcha flavor. Would definitely get again. I would definitely come back here for the karage and chicken!

I really enjoyed this place. First time trying it. Gave the hubby a few options for lunch and he picked this place so we gave it a go. It was before 3pm so it was still lunch time and we were able to order from the lunch menu which had set options. I got the chicken in egg and the hubs got the chicken set. Soooo good. Love the sides that it comes with as well - salad, soup and rice. Service was great and their facilities were nice and clean. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Love the quirky design of the place especially the sake chandelier. Will definitely come back and bring the fam.

This is my third visit here to this restaurant this time we tried the Tan Tan Ramen, and the chicken Ramen. For appetizers we had the natto seaweed bomb, the chicken cracklings, and the scallop carpaccio. All the new items, which is all of them this visit, is excellent! I was afraid to try Natto, but I ended up really liking it! Service is top notch! They also take reservations. Ambiance is very lively. You have to come and try this place! It is the bomb!

Seriously delicious. There's plenty of parking around though you might have to walk a bit. There's a good amount of seating in the restaurant and we were seated right away. I ordered the lemon sorbet float and it was super refreshing! The way it comes out is also super cute. I was pretty hungry and I ordered the four piece thigh fried chicken. It was definitely a good amount of food. The chicken is juicy and full of flavor. I appreciated that the pieces are lightly breaded. They have mayonnaise, shichimi and other condiments at the table but I advise to get some of their specialty sauces. I'll definitely be back!

I love the outdoor patio with heaters and how it's dog friendly! We got the bone in chicken with garlic rice. We also ordered ground chicken rice and tempura brussel sprouts. Dessert was matcha tiramisu. Service is amazing. They were super friendly. The bone in chicken with garlic rice is a definitely get. The ground chicken rice wasn't anything special. I felt like I could make it at home. The tempura brussel sprouts were amazing!!! Highly recommend this dish. Matcha tiramisu was delicious!! All in all, I think it's worth a try. However I do think the food is extremely oily so probably not the best to eat often.

Food Came here after seeing it everywhere on instagram and thought what could be so special about a japanese chicken place. Got ourselves a 3 combo karaage which is a different parts of chicken fried karaage style. The chicken was pretty good, fried nicely to be crunchy but really tender on the inside with the classic karaage flavor. The cucmber was really good, nice flavors and well marinated. Their showstopper was the bone in chicken which is basically a leg/thigh chicken that they cut for you tableside. The chicken was really juicy and really flavorful and would definitely come back for this alone. Service/Ambiance Sunday early dinner wasn't too packed for our part of four and the place was nice and clean and gave small japanese shop vibes. The staff were nice and service was relatively quick too. The bone in chicken did take some time to arrive tho

We arrived right at opening (5:15 PM) without a reservation. We were told we could sit if we left before 6:30 PM because of a later booking. Since we were just having a quick dinner (4 adults and 1 child), we agreed. However, the terrible hospitality started immediately when she forced our group of 5 into a tight 4-person booth, making us extremely uncomfortable. Throughout the meal, IYA made us feel incredibly unwelcome, constantly rushing us and giving us dirty looks. Even though we were well aware of the time, she aggressively pushed the dessert menu and called for "last call" at 6:00 PM just to kick us out faster. When we politely asked for extra broth, she snapped that there would be an extra charge with a terrible attitude, then literally slammed the dish down on our table. The absolute worst part was her handling of my Service Dog. As someone who legally requires a service animal, I had my dog right next to me. Without even asking if it was a registered service animal, IYA rudely and aggressively demanded that I put the dog on the floor. Her complete lack of education, empathy, and legal understanding regarding service animals is deeply concerning and discriminatory. If you work in hospitality, basic manners and knowledge of service animal regulations are mandatory. IYA was incredibly rude, ignorant, and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the food told a very different story. We ordered a wide variety of yakitori since the glowing reviews repeatedly highlighted it as the restaurant's specialty. Instead, what arrived was surprisingly inconsistent. Nearly every skewer had a heavily charred exterior that crossed the line from smoky to bitter. Good yakitori should showcase careful grilling that enhances the ingredients, not mask them with burnt flavors. The proteins themselves didn't taste particularly fresh, and the seasoning was all over the place. Some skewers were so lightly seasoned they tasted unfinished, while others were aggressively salty. Consistency is one of the fundamentals of good yakitori and it was noticeably lacking here. Having visited plenty of izakayas and eaten more than my fair share of yakitori, I'm not claiming Michelin-level expectations. I simply know the difference between properly grilled, well-balanced skewers and ones that miss the mark. Based on this visit, the food was below average and failed to live up to the hype. With the volume of positive reviews, I expected a memorable yakitori experience. Instead, I left wondering if I had visited the same restaurant everyone else was raving about.

The Fluids: Cold Asahi and Lemon Chu-His. Highly recommended if you enjoy being happy. The Verdict This spot is a unicorn--it works for kids, first dates, or "290th dates" where you both just want to stare at an iPad and eat kimchi in a tent. The Heartbreak They have a "10-Second Hit It" game at the front door where you can win a free meal. We were this close. We didn't win, but we're definitely going back to seek revenge.

We were seated immediately with no wait during dinner time, and there's a large free parking lot, so getting in and out was hassle-free. The skewers were good overall, but one thing to note is that they don't have that smoky, charcoal-grilled flavor. If you're expecting a traditional yakitori experience, just keep that in mind. What we ordered: - Momo Kizokuyaki - 7/10 A classic choice. The chicken was juicy and cooked well, but it leaned a little under-seasoned, so it didn't leave much of a lasting impression. - Teba - 6/10 Chicken was kinda dry but seasoning was good. - Harami Beef - 7/10 The beef was tender and cooked nicely, but it also lacked a bit of seasoning. Good texture, just missing that extra punch of flavor that would've made it memorable. - Karaage - 8/10 My favorite dish of the meal. The portion size was just right, and the chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned throughout. - Soboro Don - 8/10 This reminded me of an elevated Yoshinoya beef bowl--in the best way. It had richer flavors, better-quality ingredients, and the fresh ginger added a bright, flavorful contrast that tied everything together. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, respectful, and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was also spotless, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I'd definitely come back. While a couple of the skewers could use a little more seasoning and that signature smoky flavor, the friendly service, clean atmosphere, easy parking, and solid food make this a spot that's worth checking out.

If I had been able to eat crunchier / harder stuff (I had dental work done prior), I would have been more adventurous with the menu. They had so many delicious looking options! That being said, the skewers were AMAZING. Their chicken skewers, the scallop, and the veggies were cooked to perfection. I felt like I had just walked back into a legit izakaya in Tokyo. The vibes were amazing, the staff was so friendly. I will absolutely be back. 10000000/10

I understand yakitori is cooked over a grill and the smell is part of the experience, but sweating through dinner in a small shop is not charming. Turn up the AC or improve the ventilation. Service also felt cold. There was no warmth, no hospitality, no sense that anyone was glad people were there. The grill master mostly stared through the room, which made the whole place feel more awkward than welcoming. As for the food, some skewers were good, but others were noticeably over salted. For something as simple and focused as yakitori, the execution has to be tighter than that. There are plenty of yakitori spots around. If the food were exceptional, maybe the uncomfortable room and flat service would be easier to forgive. But right now, the flavors aren't strong enough to make the experience worth repeating.

It felt causal and cozy inside, simple and clean. We arrived late at around 1:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon but the waitress was patient and friendly, guiding us to seats and let us know to order before their kitchen was closed. It had a lunch special menu which showed several special items at a very affordable price. We picked the Negitoro Bowl from this special menu (at half of the regular price). The tuna had a balanced fat and was minced in a manner that I felt it melt in my mouth. It's a good match with rice. The Kaisen Bowl had a variety of seafoods and all of them tasted very fresh! The salty fish roe made the rice more flavorful. The Kaisen Bowl came with a miso soup and a salad. We also ordered a soba which was well cooked. We definitely will go back to try more dishes!

This was always one of the restaurants I wanted to try, so I was happy I finally got to visit haha. One thing is that the prices are high and the portion felt little small. If you are really hungry, I probably would not recommend ordering only the premium dishes. It might be better to try some of the more affordable menu options too. Still, the food quality was great and I would love to come back again to try different dishes next time.

The inside decor was home-y, with regular seating and a few tatami rooms. Had a rsvp for a booth and was sat immediately. Ordered a few different dishes: - Sweet potato tempura - Agadashi tofu - yellowtail jalapeño sashimi - soba noodles - chicken curry rice Everything was really good - but the chicken curry rice and sashimi stood out. They also did get our soba noodle order wrong and received udon, but the udon was good also. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food you get. Would come back!

I usually read through the Yelp comments and look at the photos before trying a new place, but this time I only checked the rating -- which was great -- and decided to go based on that and the FB post. Looking back, I probably should have read the reviews first. We didn't realize the bento boxes are only available during lunchtime, and we were also surprised to find out they don't have yakitori. Those were two things we were hoping to try. We came with a party and ordered several items, including the Akatsuki Special Hot Pot, which was recommended to us, along with other dishes. The tempura and karaage were definitely the highlights -- both were really good. The rest of the food was okay for our group, but unfortunately it didn't really satisfy our craving or stand out the way we were hoping. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the staff was friendly. I think the biggest thing was that our expectations were set by what we saw on FB, and the items that caught our attention weren't available when we visited. I would recommend checking their current menu before going so you know what to expect. Maybe we'll come back another time to try their lunch menu and explore more of what they offer.

Their udon carbonara also gets a lot of praise and it's a consistent star item on the regular menu. I recently tried their vegetable croquette; the texture is absolutely perfect. I can see myself getting more than one order of this item next time I'm around. For the price, I expected the quality and presentation to feel more special, but it was very basic. I also paid an additional $3.50 for sashimi, which did not taste or look premium enough to justify the upcharge. What bothered me most was being told there would be an additional 50-cent charge for ponzu sauce. I agreed, but what I received was barely enough to cover the bottom of my small dipping dish -- about half of a tiny thumb-sized portion. I don't mind paying extra when something feels worth it, but the small upcharges and underwhelming portions made the experience feel disappointing. This was my second attempt to like Ojiya, but unfortunately, I won't be returning.
