The service is poor quality. Waitresses are screaming to each other which order to take or which table to serve. Also, make sure to check your bills. The light food is well presented, is of high quality and is very individual depending on the waiter. One dish can be garnished with paprika and strawberries by one and with tomatoes by another. Interesting and authentic! You can also buy wine by the glass. They have red/white/rosé of the day for about €8 with higher quality than neighboring restaurants. The winestore/bar has about 6 small tables in a steep alley located in central Villefranche. During high season there is a calm flow of people strolling by. The environment is beautiful with a glimpse of the harbour. This is a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. Maybe buy a bottle, have a glass of it and finish it with dinner at home or at a restaurant nearby?

The moment the owner saw the New York area code, her tone completely changed -- she was thrilled, saying "Bonjour New York, can't wait to see you," and made sure we had a table. When we arrived that evening, the same woman recognized me immediately as part of the Romanian family she'd turned away that afternoon. Her face fell. She turned to her colleague and had us seated at a cramped table at the very end -- despite the reservation being for 4 and my name already written down for the good table she'd set aside for "New York." There is no version of this that isn't about where she thought we were from. The only thing that changed between "fully booked" and a warm welcome was a US phone number, and the only thing that changed between that welcome and a bad table was seeing our faces. By that point I was too unsettled to even touch the drink I'd ordered -- we just paid and left. Genuinely one of the most uncomfortable, humiliating experiences I've had at a restaurant. Do not go here.

We shared a DELICIOUS Sashimi Tataki (basically sliced Ahi, but the fish was outstanding quality), and a bottle of Chateau Sainte Beatrice Cotes de Provence Cuvee Vaussiere Rose. We also got espresso to help settle the wine and prep for our climb up Neitzsche Path, back to Domaine Pins-Paul. In fact, we had hiked down the path following Fiona, the wandering pup from our inn. She wasn't meant to climb all the way down to Bord de Mer, so we simply used Anjuna's phone to call the proprietor, who came down to fetch his naughty little pup (she wandered about an hour and a half down the cliffs of Eze and crossed train tracks to end up on the beach!!). We decided to try the restaurant while waiting, and it was a fantastic time. Think of this as a higher end beach bar.... or just a beach bar with a price that slightly bites. Nice beach, rosé flowing, music pumping and, by late afternoon, everyone from 20-year-olds to people old enough to know better dancing on the tables. It looked FANTASTIC. Unfortunately, we'd arrived at 1.55pm for our 2pm reservation. We sat down at 3.50pm. Not because somebody eventually remembered us, but because after nearly two hours of smiling, asking nicely, reminding reception that we existed and watching people who'd arrived after us being seated, my wife finally cornered a manager and effectively negotiated our release from restaurant purgatory. By this point Anjuna had erupted into one of the best parties on the Riviera. And I was absolutely livid. I've rarely experienced the peculiar sensation of watching 200 people have the time of their lives while becoming progressively more miserable myself. I wanted to dance on a table. I wanted another margarita. I wanted to be one of those carefree people waving a napkin above their head. Instead I sat there smarting at the total disrespect and humiliation they served up. The food was average. The party was great. The management's attitude towards customers was utterly appalling. Anjuna appears to have mistaken being popular for having permission to treat people like shit. Perhaps when you've got a queue of people keen to get in, customers start to look less like guests and more like livestock with credit cards. Which is a shame, because underneath all the arrogance there's actually a fantastic place trying to get out. Would I go back? NOT EVER!
