This hidden gem is tucked away in one of carmels enchanted secret-like courtyards cul-de-sac. The charm is definitely on, yet you walk into a rustic western style tasting room. However, winning me over by how cute this place was nestled in between the charming restaurants and stores around it, the wine!! OH my. I'm a huge port/late harvest wine SNOB. They have hands down one of the best ones I have tasted. "It's not quite a port or a late harvest" said the very informative wine specialist we had. I had a red wine flight and was really impressed with the selection. I thought it's all cute-on trend vibe was it, but the wine absolutely shined and I took bottles home! I wish I lived closer. This place was certainly a hidden gem when we visited this past weekend. The server gave us great recommendations based on what kind of wine we were hoping to try. So I ended up getting a glass of pinot red wine and my friend got the Sauvignon de blanc white wine it was very refreshing indeed. It was so cozy because of the fireplace near the table so relaxing indeed. However,the only thing I would suggest they change is the premade charcuterie board they serve it would be better if it was fresh. Amazing reds! I happened to pop in here while wandering by and wanting to do a wine tasting. I'm so glad I stumbled across this winery and had such a great time! I sat inside but they have a lovely little outdoor area with a few small tables, too. Toby was working and I very much enjoyed his service and conversation! This was a really cool find. We were walking down the main road and found a cute, majestic alley that led us to this tasting room. The people who run the show here were super friendly and accommodated our party of five for a tasting. They even catered to our preferred flavor profiles when it came to red vs. white wines. A small tasting room but good staff. The owner grew up as a cowboy so the wine bottles have cowboy philosophies printed at the back, which sometimes are funny but common sense stuff. They have petit Sarah and mostly cabs. The sister vineyard is owned by the wife which has more Pinot selection. Their 2019 legacy cab is my fav with enough tanning and a good body. The 2018 bulls eye dessert wine did a nice finishing. For $25, you can taste 5 wines from the menu. The wines we tasted were all grown in their estate and locally. read more

They were able to quickly accommodate the 6 of us on a busy Saturday with a lovely outdoor table around a glass fire pit. I had high hopes for this place. Not only because it was recommended by our hotel but because I did my research and reviews appeared to be good. However, the woman who attended the bar on 12/17 made us feel very unwelcomed. 1. There are two ways to get to this place. One off the side street and one through a welcoming lit up hallway leading you to an art gallery and chocolate place. The winery is around the way. We had our puppy with us and I had asked if it was ok to go inside with our dog. She looked at him and said, "he gives me a bad vibe" if he's going to bark then no. Excuse you! Dogs are great judges of character so what does that say about you? I absolutely was appalled! What horrible customer service to offend someone's dog. I visited a few weeks ago as this place was recommended by the hotel I was at. The place is all~ the way back in a small entry and super cute. Fun fact: this is the first tasting room in Carmel apparently! The bar worker here was really knowledgeable about wines and she was super nice. She knew how to keep several conversations going and also the tasting as well. The owners certainly picked the right person to work the bar! I forget the exact wines I had but this is a red-heavy vineyard so the tastings are as well. That was all fine with me since I like reds. There is one white that was very good though. After obtaining a Priority Wine Pass for a Napa trip earlier in the year, my goal was to use it to use it as much as possible before it expired, so to that end, we drove up the coast the weekend before Christmas, tasting a lot of great wine for free... this was one of our stops because it was on the wine pass. It's normally $20 for a tasting, which is definitely on the high side, but acceptable if they're doing something really unique, or if the wine is amazing. I'd call the wine here "fine", so I'm pretty glad we didn't have to pay for it. The tasting list we tried included one pretty good sauvignon blanc, one pretty good pinot noir they were selling for $50 (at *that* price point I've had much better), one pretty mediocre malbec blend that tasted like a $10 wine being sold for $30, one pretty mediocre cab that tasted like a $15 wine being sold for a whopping $65... and then our server, who seemed rather preoccupied (or perhaps just wanted us to leave because our tasting was comped?), insisted we'd tried all 5 - that's the first time that's ever happened in all the wineries I've tasted at, and I've been to a lot of wineries. It was pretty awkward. We did manage to convince her that she was wrong, but it took a couple awkward minutes. Honestly, I would've been ok skipping it, the last one on the list (a cab/malbec blend) was a. a wine club exclusive, so we couldn't have bought it if we'd wanted to, and b. also not amazing I'd give it three stars to taste for free, maybe even 3 1/2 if I could - for free, I'd be happy to give them another try if I were back in the area (since I do seem to be in the minority in not being impressed - maybe they were having an off week. And honestly, if you visit wineries very often in a year, and they're still running their Groupon, which they've been doing for a while, it'd be silly *not* to pick up a wine pass). If I'd paid $20 for the tasting, I'd rate them lower than that, though. read more

I was greeted by a man who was so warm and welcoming, and had the best accent. Honestly it was like straight out of a fairy tale. It was rainy this weekend in Carmel and we were thinking it'd be easy to get in to places for a quick wine tasting. Boy we were wrong and almost everywhere seemed to be reservation only even though they said walk ins welcome! But because of that we were able to stumble across Galante which was tucked in a little off the street. Truly a blessing in disguise! I'm still dreaming about the 2021 Legacy Red Blend. It is undoubtedly my favorite red I have ever had. I can't thank Jack enough who said you have got to try this! We were on our last tasting and majority of the group was going for the dessert wine or a cab but Jack swept us off our feet by suggesting the Legacy and then said he would pour us whatever we wanted after to finish off. Jack truly has so much love and passion for his craft and he definitely made me a fan! Needless to say I left with a bottle of the Legacy and can't wait to try the rest of the wine offerings when I visit Carmel again. P.S. Their wine aerators were such a nice touch! Such a unique find in the charming alley ways of Carmel! A true hidden gem! Nestled in a little garden area we basically had the place to ourselves. It was a bit late in the day. Came here for my first wine tasting experience...ever! The location was unique as it was nestled behind some small businesses off the main street and only had 3 small tables with 2 chairs each. Cozy little feeling overall. $20 for 5 tasters. All the wines were pretty good overall, particularly the first Sauvignon Blanc on the list. I'd come back if and only if the same server isn't there. He wasn't too personable, he didn't seem like he was enjoying his job especially knowing it was mine and my partner's first time ever tasting, and he was a very LIGHT pourer. I think our five tasters didn't even come out to one normal glass of wine. Oh, not only that, i wanted a specific reserve on the list for my last taster and he said they "ran out for the day"... so in other words, he didn't want to open a new bottle since he was closing in about 5-10 mins at the time. Tasty wine in a cozy space. Galante Vineyards Tasting Room is accessed by cute, little path that leads you from the street. The tasting room is small but we were able to find seats in a Wednesday afternoon. Country music played over the speakers at a reasonable volume while we visited. I completed the tasting which consisted of 5 wines for $25. This was my favorite tasting of the day and I enjoyed all four of the reds in the tasting. In fact it's the ONLY tasting room we've ever visited that only comps the tasting if you join the wine club, even though we bought a few bottles of their very good wines. Visited Galente for the first time last Sunday the 7th as my boyfriend and I were heading back to LA. We stayed in Monterey for our anniversary and just had to swing by Carmel on the way home to complete our trip! We found a whimsical path that lead to the Thomas Kinkade shop and then discovered Galante around the corner. My boyfriend loves any and all Port wines, so he was over the moon that they had a few for him to try. I opted for a red and white tasting and then ordered a glass of my favorite one, which I can no longer recall... We had a great time sipping, and I ended up making friends with the sweetest gal visiting from Kentucky! The cowboy décor is cute and fun, and there's a huge chair in the shape of a boot, sitting in front of the bar area.
