American Tourist here…read more I'm a big car guy so when I planned my trip to Paris I made sure there was time to visit Le Mans. We rented a car and drove from Paris to Le Mans which is ~120 miles, I thought it would take 2 hours or so but it actually took 4 hours! You are basically taking a small 2 lane highway throughout the entire trip so you are probably averaging ~50mphs. About every 5-10 minutes the highway puts you through a small town where you slow to a crawl through the roundabouts. So yah, factor in 8 hours of driving round trip. On to the museum, it's much smaller and less impressive than I thought. There is a decent mix of old and new race cars but a lot of the famous models like Aston Martin DBR1 and Jaguar D types were missing. I was at the Indy museum recently and they pretty much have every single Indy 500 winning racecar there so the Le Mans museum was disappointing. I think even at a leisurely pace you can get through the museum in an hour pretty easily.

It's funky. It's weird. It's a collection of odds and end of the last 150 years. It's an antidote to going to the Lourve in Paris. Started in the early 50's this place is a labor of love of a father and now a son. Located a short 8 km drive from the center of Poitiers this place is worth the 5 eruos it will cost you. Une Renault berline de 1928 et une Simca 6 1948 avec un foultitude d'objets posés dessus, une calèche Victoria-Milord de 1870,... On lève les yeux : oh, une collection de galoches (chaussures de cuir et semelles de bois) et de sabarons ! Là une moto Terrot 250 cm3 1930 avec un bidon d'huile de la même marque sur le porte-bagage... Stop, on arrête. On va plutôt faire un petit jeu de cache-cache : pendant votre visite, cherchez l'hélicoptère Sikorsky 1945 et la roulotte de cirque pour nains de 1920...

WHY no reviews. This place has one of the greatest collection of military related vehicles, 200…read moreso they say but not all are displayed to the public at one time. Some are on loan and others need some sort of work. What is amazing is that many of these vehicles can operate. A number of vehicles were damaged during their use and that damage has not been repaired or covered up. I always envied other posters on You-tube of the collection. One other point is that the gift store is filled with lots of models and books and related items. If in the area, you must see to believe but it is too much of a rush if coming from Paris and returning within a day. Make it a point to stay in town or one of the neighboring towns. P.S. a 3 Euros is charged if you plan on taking photos.

I came here not being a race fan and left being a race fan. Nice gift shop and very thorough…read moremuseum, plus for a few extra euro you can walk out around the race track. Nothing was going on race wise while I was there but there is still plenty to see. Nothing to eat on the grounds so be sure to pack something if you want something. I took a taxi from the train station but there might be busses that stop near the race track I am not sure. It's not far out of town so it's about 15 euro taxi ride from the gare Le Mans train station.

All we need in this world is a living Leonardo Da Vinci! Nice gift shop, refreshments available, friendly staff, nice gardens. It's quite a hike up a hill from the parking area, and the one way streets are very narrow. I do not recommend trying to drive to the top.
