I stopped by this art gallery formerly a church since I was in the area and this looked like one of…read morethose slightly off-the-beaten-path local spots that wasn't a major tourist destination, despite its central location kitty corner from Templo Mayor.
If you're looking for something different I agree with some of the other Gmaps reviews in that this is one of the more avant-garde immersive installations I've seen recently. The current exhibition is set almost entirely in the dark, with dim lighting just enough for visitors to barely make out where they're walking, so take that into account as the ground is stone tiles and there are stairs in a couple spots.
"Invisible" by Michelle Marshall uses photography, videography and digital images to convey creation as a form of resolution. I found the description of her works displayed leaning towards trying to attribute more psychologically deep symbolism to performance art than necessarily warranted, but gave it some credence as it takes artists bravery to deliver self-expression into the world and attribute meaning to these outputs.
What intrigued me the most was how the old and historic church interplayed with the contemporary elements of the art installation. The layout of the exhibit, meager lighting and the grand architecture became an integral part of forming the emotions viewers experience while processing the art. For sure if these pieces were displayed in a normal white space gallery setting, their impact would be much less.
Admission is free, while I was there on a Saturday afternoon there were minimal other visitors. Recommend maybe 30 minutes here, unless you're really into dimly lit churches or maybe when they switch up the exhibits, then maybe more time.
