It's family owned, the cappuccino and Caffe americano were good, but the best thing is they heat their pastries before bringing them to your table. It is located beside a church & elementary scuola so we enjoyed watching the children being picked up by their family at the end of their school day. Galleria Numero 38 is a gem - the owner, Irio, poured us fabulous wine and was an absolute delight to speak with. We originally planned to go to the opera next door after apertivos here, but enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed. Bonus: you can hear the opera from the backyard garden where the drinks are served! The food turned out to be little morsels of deliciousness. Their on-site chef is amazing, and this little experienced turned out to be one of the most delicious ones in Lucca. I would definitely come back here next time. Generous pour of wine and nibbles, plus the chance to converse with a very interesting gallery owner and artist, in an art gallery. Very meta, and easily the best 5 euros you will spend on this trip.

I then dean into Caffe' Frassi. A cute and small mum-and-pop shop selling authentic Italian sandwiches freshly made for their own bread, own cured meats and own toppings. First off, I want to say the owner was super friendly. As old as he was, he was super charming and welcoming to his space. Offering everything to us to make us feel welcomed to his shop. The shop is very small. The minute you walk in you probably can see there is only 4 seats available on the side. It's more of a walk in and out spot but with the small option to sit if needed. There is a wall full of wines and a rack full of special liquors. There is a small display rack of cured meat where you'll see the owner shave pieces of it for your sandwich. The sandwiches were hot, decent portioned and made fresh. It was just the right amount of cheese, meats and accompaniment. He offered a shot of Limoncello with the meal however i chose not to take it because of my long ride down to Rome. But it was very nice of him to offer. Overall, i would give Cafee' Frassi a 4 out of 5 and wish I can go back.
