It was amazingly delicious and completely not keto. My friend chose a fried chicken breast with some sauteed vegetables. Also delicious. With the beer, we had a super lunch that gave us the energy to continue exploring Palermo. A little bit of trouble with the credit card machine (yeah, no surprise there) and we were able to get past the language barrier just fine with pointing. It's delicious Sicilian specialties, plus pizza, which - see photos - you order and eat on the street. I was after some Panelle, chickpea fritters, which are on all the "must eat" lists. They had several items with it. I used the google camera translator and found one with mushrooms - funghi. Plus something with mozzarella and eggplant. Everything was so inexpensive - 2 or 3 euros, that I thought they'd be little tastes, like a $16 San Francisco appetizer. Wrong! Each was enough for a meal. Big sandwiches - see photos, 7 euros would easily feed two people. Tasty, authentic and quite a scene. PS On the way out I noticed a big pot of what I thought was a chocolate dessert. Wrong again! Spleen! In the last photo. I'm not partial to spleen, but it was very popular.

You can't fault them on…read morecost, the prices are absolutely rock bottom and it is fun to sample some famous Palermo dishes. But overall it just wasn't my thing. We had two paninis on our first visit. fresh tuna salad, which was actually quite lovely, and one with panelle (fried chickpea flour snacks) and potato. The sandwich bread had a nice sesame flavor. But it was just carb city, and all tasted a bit samey. We popped in again for a pizzette - really disappointing and flavorless - and some decent spinach and cheese arancini. I guess it's hit or miss. It's worth a try to experience the famous foods of Sicily, but I'm not a total convert yet.

I have to balance this out with some bad. The yang to the yin. Goddam plastic water bottles and plastic water cups!! Why?! Stop it Sicily... you're out of control with the pollution... like WAY out of control. Be better than the rest! That's all, I should take off a star for that, but I believe once they read this... they'll change. We thought we were waiting in line but then realized that the people had spilled out into the front and weren't really waiting, they were just drinking and chilling. After some confusing exchanges we got a table outside though, so all was good. The pasta was great! They have several different sauces and fresh pastas that you can mix and match. I loved the pesto trapanese. We liked it so much that we went back on our last night and got some to-go. Our waitress was very nice and despite the crowd the food didn't take long.
