As an American, I wondered how this restaurant would be compared to something at home. It's interesting how the rest of the world looks to the rest of the world. Walking in, I had to laugh a bit to think that this is how others think of us, but it all fairness, nothing seemed out of place. The menu represented standard food choices we have here. I had one of the hamburgers with fries. Other than we don't normally put beans and corn on a bacon cheese burger, it was ok. Now, I would have liked my fries a bit thinner and a bit more chrispier, as well as my burger seasoned a bit more... but for something 4,000 miles from home, it was good. I also enjoyed my stay in the hotel. Even with the restaurant busy, I did not hear any noise coming from downstairs. When I come back for my next visit, I plan to stay at the hotel, and eat at the restaurant again.

The American theme of the restaurant was anything but subtle. I insisted that my German friends bring me here for dinner. I had a wonderful time. It is always fun seeing what America means to people in other countries. I expected the food to be very bad, but I found the hamburgers were totally legit. The only difference from American burgers was that they had tons of sauce drowning them, and the seasoning of the meat was a little different. I thought the fries were really good as well. The decorations inside were hilarious. I am a police officer, and I loved the statue of the highway patrol trooper. It was also neat that a customer arrived in a classic American muscle car (Chevrolet Chavelle) while we were there. However, I noticed that a lot of the customers were what we would call "douche bags" in America... Our waitress was very friendly, and the food came out fast. I love Germany, but it was neat getting a taste of home during my visit. I would recommend this place for anyone, but I think Americans will really enjoy it. In America, or Chicago at least, no one who's of legal drinking age and has any sort of respect for themselves goes to places like this. Bars like this are reserved for people who are freshly 21 and don't know any better, freshly divorced and looking to slum it, or for tourists who got got tricked into coming here. In this case, we were the Americans-in-Germany version of the latter. Our guide took us here thinking we'd be impressed with this 'American' bar. Obviously, that didn't happen. For any Chicagoans reading this, this bar is located in the Viagra Triangle of Düsseldorf and this place (along with all it's neighbors) would be the 'Mothers'... but at least we know where to send our guide when he visits Chicago next. Payback, for sure. The clientele seemed mostly older, divorcee-aged, though there were a few younger tables. The main level is sticky and standing room only and the crowd goes wild for songs that are perpetually lame to everyone in America besides mid-life crisis suffering suburbanites and people who enjoy piano bars. Songs like 'Who let the dogs out?', anything from Papa Roach and/or Nickelback, new-ish Bon Jovi releases, Lou Bega's 'Mambo #5', and more... but not ironically. A music video mash-up that did not match the songs that were actually being spun played on the overhead flat-screens. I was a particularly big fan of the Aretha Franklin video in black and white, Usher live in concert, and a raunchy Rihanna video. I'm not sure what the 3 had to do with each other, but it was fun to try and guess what the person who did mix them together was thinking. Our guide noted that they mix a mean Redbull vodka, but since the rest of us value our lives and do our best to not mix our uppers and downers, we all just opted for a straight beer. No surprise here with an altbier, but we sucked it up since were heading to Belgium the next day and knew we wouldn't have to drink any more light beers the rest of the trip. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but keep in mind we also came here sober. It's probably a lot better to come here after you've already spent a sizable amount of time imbibing.

The veggies and the patty tasted fresh. The bun was alright. The sunny side up egg almost perfect. The bacon could be crispier. Maybe a sprinkle of salt and white pepper would have bring out more flavor but I really can't complain. I also like to mention that the presentation of the burger was done with finesse. Especially if you consider I ordered with no sides. Kudos to the chef. SERVICE I rarely have been to a restaurant with that level of friendliness. Everyone is just very nice. I dig it.
