I have been shopping at this location for the past 2+ years. This is the closest location to my house. I have enjoyed the store manager Crystal and assistant manager since I have shopped there. They deliver exceptional customer service. I do ot normally post reviews to anything. Today was an exception. On 9/2/22 at approximately 6:15pm, I called gamestop on Rosecrans to see if the copy of a game that was preordered was at the store. The clerk asked for my name. He looked it up and told me that yes, it was here. I asked him if there was a reason that I was not called. He stated that maybe I missed the call or my voicemail was full. I told him that "I have no missed calls and my voicemail is not full." The clerk on the phone was relaying my message back and forth to his co-worker, someone I assume to be the closing manager. I am going tonassume he did not know I could bear his conversation He asked his co-worker if I wanted the game or not, geesh. The game just came out on the 30th. Why is he complaining." I then asked to speak to the other person that he was speaking to. He answered the phone. I asked him his name. He told me his name was Andy. I told him that he has shitty customer service. I'm giving this GameStop 2 stars. It would have 5 stars if it weren't for the Manager Crystal. I come in here about once a week to buy my son games. He has a very large collection. We always receive great customer service from the male employees who work in the afternoon. Don't know their names but they are amazing! Today, my son asked me to trade in some of his games. As I patiently wanted for Crystal to carry out the trade in, she scolded me over 4 times about games being clean. I understood her the first time. Crystal is not my mother. I'm 42 years old and don't need to hear it. I said ok each time. The last time, I told her that I understood and she didn't need to keep repeating. She still repeated it once more. Then I asked for her regionals number. She didn't want to give it to me. Crystal needs to work on her customer service skills. She definitely is a liability to the store. I don't like or appreciate being scolded by the manager over and over again. read more

I don't think I have an addictive personality.... but my newfound passion for Guitar Hero, is making me second guess myself. Two weeks ago, I went away for the weekend with some friends to Parker, AZ where about 30 of us rented 2 houses and brought 4 boats to play with. One of our friends brought her 18 yr. old daughter and 2 of her friends. They brought their Playstation and Guitar Hero. As soon as they plugged it in Saturday night.... it was over. I was hooked and am now on a quest o channel my inner rockstar.... Upon my return to SD, I promptly drove to Target and bought myself a Playstation 2, Guitar Hero 1 and 2 Guitars. How old am I???? For the last several days, I've allowed myself a "work break" here and there, and I am just as addicted to it now as I was then... in fact, when Guitar Hero ENCORE 80'S EDITION came out on Tuesday -- being the 80's Queen I am... I HAD to get it! So I ran over to the Game Stop on my lunch break hoping to get myself my next "fix". Although the gentleman I spoke with was polite and nice (that's where the 1 star comes from) that's about where it ends. They had the Encore 80's version - but when I asked about Guitar Hero 2 - he said they were out. He offered, and then called the store down the street to see if it was in. (enter star # 2) They were out. No big deal, right? WRONG! HE goes on to tell me that I have to HAVE GH2 before the Encore 80's version willl work!!! WHAT???? For a moment I believe him - and head BACK to Target to see if they have both the Encore edition AND Guitar Hero 2.... They too are out of 2. However, after speaking with the salesperson in the electronics department - I find that you DO NOT have to have GH 2 to play Encore 80s'..... I even proved it when I brought it home and played it!!!! (it's awesome btw) So to the Game Stop salesperson I say: UH HELLLO??? YOU WORK FOR A SPECIALTY VIDEO GAME STORE AND THE PERSON AT TARJAAAAY KNOWS MORE THAN YOU DO???? It's not brain surgery... it's right on the box! Had the games not been behind the counter at Game Stop - I probably would have figured it out myself... but he lost a sale, and any future sales that they may have gotten from my new addiction... There clearance section is better than most gamestops! It's not a very big stores but they flash the newest releases in games. I love their clearance section because they sell at a fair price for old or used games. If they work, it's like buying a brand new one to me. I had never even heard of this place. But my girls wanted a couple particular Wii games for Easter; went to Target and they didn't have them. Asked the guy behind the counter at Target where I might find them, and he suggested Game Stop. Good call! Apparently, they're not new release games, so Target didn't carry them anymore, but Game Stop did -- even had used ones, so I saved a few bucks. AND, they were having a special of buy 2 games, get 1 free, so came home w/3 games for the price of 2. I know almost nothing about games, but Derek there was SO helpful, friendly and enthusiastic, I felt very welcome, not totally lost, and am sure I'll come back when we're ready to invest in a new or couple new games. The day GameStop ceased to carry old gaming consoles and other handheld gaming systems, accessories, etc. was the day it sealed its fate. I can tell you I'm not going to renew my card. Came here looking for a memory card for a Playstation 2 only to find out they stopped carrying 'old' consoles like that in anticipation of the Playstation 4 and XBox One release. So they'll still take in iPods and iPhones in their inventory but they gave up on the PS2? What's this monstrosity? Guess this forces my hand at online gaming retail like Amazon after all. read more

I don't understand all of the 1-star reviews for this place, but to each his own I guess. I have been to this location many times and I have almost always found what I needed. They keep a good stock of games and they give good trade-in amounts. I usually wait until we have a pile of used games (that we have either beaten or gotten tired of) and bring them all in. It definitely helps keep the gaming budget in check! Granted, there is an issue with small talk from the employees. They LOVE to talk shop with every customer. They are nice guys and I find the super-geek banter to be pretty amusing haha. Also, most of the employees either play or have played most of the games and are more than willing to give you their honest opinion before you buy. However, this can become an issue when there are a lot of customers in the store. Overall, this is a pretty good location and I would recommend it. read more

I am writing this review because of the amazing experience my son and I had at the Game Stop in the Loma Square Shopping Center (Midway & Rosecrans). We had bought a game here a while back, Goblin Commander: Unleash the Hoarde for PS2, and could not figure out how to play it with the cheat codes. Jett then took the time to show us exactly how they are pre-loaded into the game itself and how to activate them. Jett went way beyond the call of duty when it comes to Customer Service. And, he in no way neglected any other customers while doing so. Game Shop should be commended for having such a courteous and helpful employee representing its business!!! I popped into this GameStop last night to trade in some old PS2 games for some new XBox games. I'd been in here once before and while their selection isn't the biggest I've seen in a gamestop, it's not totally lacking. I liked that they didn't have every square inch of the store crammed with stuff so you can't walk around easily. Many GameStops are really small, but this one had some room to it. (It also didn't smell like old pee, which I've found is a somewhat common thread in many GameStops. What is that about?) The staff was really helpful. I forget his name, but he was working the nightshift last night. He was friendly without being up my caboose and he was knowledgable and tried to help me find the kinds of games *I* want to play, not what he thinks is cool. There is nothing better then clearing off the shelves of old games that you no longer play and trading them in for something new. When I worked in radio and would get free copies of games it was always nice every couple of months to bring in my stack of goodies and games that NO ONE wants to play and getting something legit. They use to take DVD's as well, and I miss that. But as far as video game stores go, you could do a lot worse. You may find a used game at a great price if you peruse the shelves on a board Saturday afternoon. Like all things, sometimes you can find a better price if you shop around, and the employees at a GameStop are a mix between indie kids that like games, and the hardcore gamers that still live at home with Mom, but have made it to Assistant Manager status. I hate going to this store. If it wasn't so close to my work I would never stop here. The staff creeps me out every time and I CAN'T EVER JUST BUY A GAME AND LEAVE WITHOUT ALL THE BANTER. Just because I am purchasing a game does not mean I want to discuss the finer points of how and by whom said game was made. Yeesh save the "shop" talk for someone else. Maybe throw in a dash of professionalism. The selection is good but it always takes forever because someone will be at the counter asking the overtasked clerk a question that is clearly over his pay grade. As a (former) recovering/(currently) regressing hardcore gamer (seriously, I look at the time I've spent getting to where I'm at on World at War and I shudder) I don't particularly care to give my money to the behemoth corporate greedmasters at GameStop. But I'll be damned if this isn't the only GameStop I've been in where A: I can actually move around the store without copping a feel in error/having a feel copped on me (attention GameStop corporate store planners: use this store as your template for EVERY OTHER STORE you open from now on!), B: The games are actually split up 'correctly': by system, used and new and alphabetized correctly and consistently, and C: The staff in it's entirety aren't a herd of douchey, holier-than-thou antisocial lames. Kay, in particular, is very easy on the eyes and friendly to boot. Don't go there!! They are ridiculous. I was encouraged by an employee there to come back at midnight for a midnight release of a game I wanted. I arrived at 12:30am and the store was entirely closed! I called to see if it was still possible to get my game, and no one answered, however there were employees in the store. Very horrible service. I've been going to this location for years. Today I went in to trade an awful game for a good game, hopefully. This was 2:30 pm Mar. 7th. The 2 employees on shift were having a passionate discussion about Final Fantasy quests. So passionate, in fact that they were SHOUTING full volume across a store full of customers. Now, when I say full volume, I mean at a level which would only be used while fighting someone. It was SO LOUD couldn't even focus on looking at the games. I get that you like video games, bro. I also like video games, that's why I'm using what little free time I have to stand in your store, ready to throw money at you. The large, long haired, bearded one was SO obnoxious and loud that he scared my kid. At this point I became very angry. Instead of confronting this employee and causing a scene, I instead stormed out. I controlled myself in a public setting, unlike the shouting employee that somehow got a job here. They drove me out of the store in under 3 minutes flat after giving me an anxiety attack and I went home empty-handed and disappointed. Never have I been so baffled at someone's total lack of self-awareness, presence of mind, and a general manner of pleasant respectfulness while in a work environment. Great group of guys. They do midnight launches at this location and all the employees are friendly, quick, and courteous. They go out of their way to talk to you and make sure you have what you need. Store itself is not particularly well kept. It is most likely due to the age of the building. The lack of wall space makes the place look extremely cramped and many of the peripheral electronics products are not within arm's reach (requires an employee to break out a step ladder.) Otherwise the place is always fun to go to and talk to the people. read more

He would say I'm decrepit but alright, good even ; since I'm almost always willing to make a trip to the Loma Portal GameStop (I even bring my wallet most of the time)! While this location mat not have the biggest inventory they more then compensate in Customer Service.
