There is always good amount of people waiting in line to order and the wait can be pretty long on busy weekend peak time. Their spicy pollack soup is delicious and probably is the most popular menu. And their broiled atka mackerel is good, too. However, their service sucks. If you ask for a container for your leftovers, they will charge you. If you as for a bag, they will charge you. Run by warm and friendly ajummas, Gamjabawi is the BOMB when it comes to all things bibimbap, affordable, and delicious. My mom and I were recommended this place by the ajumma over by the make up stores in the mall, and went to the food court fill our starving stomachs with savory and authentic Korean food after doing a large make-up haul. I got a plain ol' dolsot bibimbap while my mom got the kimchi version. I wish we knew these things before ordering though: - The orders come with kimchi, pickled cucumbers, and mung bean jelly (the time we were there at least). If my mom knew this- she would not have gotten the kimchi bibimbap since there is already kimchi! - Orders also come with seaweed soup, which also fills you out rather easily. - The bibimbaps we got were both rEALLY SPICY! Korean people really love their spicy food, so that sneaky bit of red pepper sauce should have been expected. I would COME BACK FOR SURE! They are located in the Koreatown Plaza amongst many competing restaurants in the food court of this mall. I don't think you can go wrong with any offering here but this is a place that I go back too often. The food has a great taste, the portion more than substantial, and though the service is catered to local natives (which is proof of authenticity), I'm not dismissed. The overall service is efficient but be mindful when it's crowded as the wait can be a bit long. Enjoy this offering of a good hot student be pot. read more

Out of so many choices for Korean food in the food court, I was drawn to this one. Craving for grilled mackerel and dolsot (hot stone pot) "bibimbap" meaning mixed rice topped with julienne carrots, bean sprouts, beef, zucchini and sunnyside up fried egg crispy on the edges and special sauce. Although there was hardly any meat on the bibimbap (not like how it is shown on the menu photo) we enjoyed it. A true comfort food. The same Korean lady with the bouffant hairstyle is always here! Haha. I've come here several times and without fail she's manning (womanning?) the counter. While food does come out slow at this place, the good prices and the food itself is good enough to make me come back. I think it's a bit pricier than the other food court options, but its hard to compare since they all offer different items. One of my fave korean dishes is the dolsat bibimbab. I love the crispy rice and the fun of "cooking" it. For 8 dollars here you get that, the stone pot so hot it burns your rice slightly and makes it super crispy (love it). The ingredients in the bibimbab are pretty standard, but plentiful. Yummy yummy, I love it so much. Also comes with soup, tangy dessert soup, mung bean, kimchi, pickles. Have to get the pancake here, for 4 dollars you get one thats about 10 inches in diameter and comes out hot and crispy from the pan. Yum. I feel like I get a lot of food here for a pretty low price. Food court food doesn't get much better than this. For around $10 a head, you can feast on some quality home-style Korean food, complete with a sizable spread of banchan. I've been eating at this food court for over a decade, and it is one of the best in Los Angeles. The dumpling place, which recently changed ownership, is awesome, and at various times there have been fantastic kimbap, soondae, squid tempura, even a decent spicy tuna roll. Gamjabawi is maybe the most consistent spot on the court - anything you order will be reliably tasty. The banchan is solid - zucchini, soft potato, odeng, miyuk gook (seaweed soup), and my childhood favorite, mulkimchi (literally "water kimchi," crisp pieces of sliced daikon in a clear tangy broth). Red kimchi is limited to the shredded kind, but the amount and quality of banchan is still very impressive for a food court. The food is humble home-style Korean cooking, so you're looking at stews and stir-fries and the like. I'd recommend getting the dongtae jolim, a platter of spicy pollack with loads of vegetables. The portion is generous, and the fish is fully marinated and flavored. The dongtae jjigae is another pollack dish with, again, plenty of fish, along with braised vegetables and tofu in a soothing spicy soup. The bibimbap is notably good as well, with lots of vegetables and a nice nureungji crunch. I've also tried the ojingeo bokkeum, or squid stir-fry, but I'd skip this - it tastes more grilled and less sauced than other versions, which is fine, but the flavor isn't quite there. All in all, this is a solid spot in a great food court. You get lots of food and it's all quite good. If you're in KTP or even just looking for a quick meal in K-town, definitely give this place a try. read more

OMG this place is ridiculous. This whole food court is ridiculous!! Came here with a friend for lunch and after perusing, we ended up both ordering here. I had the kimchee flake soup which was ridiculously huge, spicy, and totally satisfying. Those dough flakes are amazing - chewy and delicious. I was stuffed and still had more than half the bowl left. Prob would have had more if I wasn't continually eating. My friend had the dolsot seafood bibimbap, which got all deliciously crunchy and had this massive assortment of seafood on top!! Additionally, the turnip banchan provided was sweet, cold, and hit the spot. $6.99 for soup that lasted about 3 meals and $8.99 for DOLSOT seafood bibimbap?? Amazing! Great stone bowls. I come to this Korean food court about once a week I try to pick something different from the each food vendor but I keep coming back here for their stone bowls which sizzle when they give it to you. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes to make the rice at the bottom crispy. Try the ban chan they serve you which changes over time and season. This place was okay, but to be honest, everything was pretty bland. You pay restaurant prices for food court food. We got the bulgogi and the kalbi, and the total came out to $35 and change. It comes with japchae, kkakguki (radish Kim chi), and some broccoli for ban chan and some seaweed soup. The wait took quite a bit, about 20 minutes or more, so we ended up going to get boba and got those and ended up waiting another 15 mins (my friend spilled her boba and got a replacement and it still wasn't done). I ordered my food and sat down at an empty table. I started to take in my surroundings. Kids shouting, parents talking, tv's on the Winter Olympics. Curling. Over by the arcade games, I noticed a change machine you could trade dollar bills for quarters. This place is very close walking distance from my apartment, so made a mental note for when I need quarters for laundry day. In front of me, there were grandparents laughing and clapping and looking my direction, but past me. I turned around to look and a little girl about 4 years old was running around with a balloon. It wasn't blown up though, it was in her mouth and she couldn't muster up enough strength to blow it up. She ran past me and toward them and then all of a sudden fell onto the floor, because little kids just don't have the best hand and foot coordination. After she fell came the pause where you're not sure if she's gonna scream and cry or shake it off. She was on the floor waiting for the potential pain to kick in, if there was any. The arcade games were beeping. The curling stone was sliding down the ice on tv. And then the little girl stood up and laughed it off, still with the flat balloon. He could have added more gochu jang but that's how I like it, super spicy. Chap jae (glass vermicelli noodles) were one of the banchan dishes so I had to take a bite. It was ok, not great. 3.5! Boyfriend ordered the Bibimbap and I wanted to try Dukbokki for the first time! I'm not sure how "real" Dukbokki is supposed to taste but I wasn't really impressed. Although, I liked the potato and fish cake included, I thought there would be more depth to the flavor. But, it was nice and spicy indeed! The rice cake's texture makes me that it was probably grilled for a bit before too. I liked that the bibimbap came with some tasty banchan including chapchae and cold jelly/noodle. I haven't been to any Korean food courts in NorCal. I've eaten Korean food at a few places, but I was only recently introduced to the awesomeness of bibimbap, so I only have one other place to compare this place's bibimbap to. That is why I was here, as I heard this place had the best bibimbap in SoCal, and that might well be true. Sura in Long Beach, where I was introduced to bibimbap, does make it pretty tastily, but this place beats the pants off it as far as bibimbap goes (they're still my go-to for ktacos though). Tons of super-tasty food for 8 bucks = very yes. (I was a little sad at there not being all that much meat in the beef kibimbap I had, but honestly, it didn't even need it.) Kinda funny feeling, though, as a white dude, feeling like a minority for an hour - the whole time we were there (we also looked around the mall and bought some awesome cheap sake, which I'd been wanting for a while, at the market next door), I saw a grand total of 4 other non-Asian people. Standard Korean place. I think I have stayed in Seoul too long and now I have ruined myself when it comes to Korean places in America. But this place was decently good for its price. There was a lot of food and I was quite full. I recommend it when shopping in Koreantown Plaza. It's cheap and there are plenty of seats in the food court for a large group of people! And you can always go to the Korean Market in the same building to buy drinks for your meal. There's also a boba place in the food court. Gamjataaaaang! I love this food court. There always a bunch of ahjusshis and ahjummas chowing down on a whole bucnh of different Korean food. Every time I come here, I usually do two laps around the food court (which also works up an appetite) trying to figure out what I want and I always came back to the gamjatang (pork neck bone and potato soup) from Gamjabawi. Roughly at around $12, one bowl can definitely feed 2 people. The perilla seeds and leaves give it an earthy flavor. Eating this dish is not necessarily an art form, but it does take a little bit of maneuvering with your chopsticks to get all the tender meat off of the nooks and crannies of the neck bones. The only downside is that they take 25 minutes to get your order out. It's good, cheap "quick-service" (take that with a grain of salt), so don't come expecting any amazing service or experience since it is just a food court after all. read more

This is my go-to place at the Ktown Plaza. I like the Seafood Bibimbap and the Beef-and-Bean-Sprouts Bibimbap. Both are big portions (for a lady) so you will have to ask for a box to take the rest home. My aunt from Japan, who ate here maybe twice, asks about the seafood bibimbap all the time. Perhaps her favorite dish here in LA. It has seafood (squid, clams, etc) and potato slices that are perfectly flavored over rice. The stone pot is hot and makes those semi-burnt pieces on the sides for some crunchy rice goodness. The beef/bean sprouts bibimbap... When I ordered this for the first time, the lady was kind and told me how to eat it. (Well, mostly that the spicy soy sauce-like thing was supposed to be poured on top.) When you pour it, the SIZZLE is music to your ears. And then the aroma! Mmm. I know I should try the other stuff, but I always cave and get one of the two I mentioned above. read more

They have the best stone pot seafood, fish stews and fish soup! But it takes a really long time for the food to come, so order it ahead of time! It usually takes a good 20-30 minutes. I like to call ahead and order the food beforehand or go to the market and pick up some groceries. The seafood stone pot is so delicious, there is squid, mussels, potatoes, carrots, and clams. This dish is spicy. The fish stews (jorim's) are so good! My favorite is the eun-dae gu and godeun uh, the fish is cooked perfectly, fresh and chewy.
