They even sell bikes! A fun place if you like hardware stores. I imagine they are quite busy on weekends. I've shopped here several times. It never appears crowded or busy and plenty of people walking around to assist. Also a nice fietsen (bike) part selection. This is a very large store, where you can probably find most anything you need.

It's kind of funny to call this a compact store because it's huge for Amsterdam! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I bought a cool new rear light for my bike and a hard brush for my terrace. Try cycling home with a big push broom! The cashier was smart and knew I needed my bungie cord package opened so she grabbed a pair of cutters and helped me. It was nice and quiet on a Saturday afternoon too.

Last week, I went to Praxis (just because it was close), asking for some help with some broken faucets I had, and they were of no help whatsoever - went over to Gamma and they helped and solved all the problems, special ordering a part I needed. They're also quite friendly and some even say "hello" to you American-style when you're browsing. The Dutch may find that "overdreven", but this foreigner prefers it to the often disinterested and unhelpful service you will find at many other establishments in the Netherlands. They could use a few extra check-out desks as it can be a long wait if it's crowded, but of course space is not in high supply in the Netherlands, so I'd prefer they use it to keep well-stocked..
