Seas are a bit rough during the crossing and apparently that is normal for crossing the North Sea. You'll probably not want to eat on the boat because of it. Kristiansand was a surprisingly adorable little town, if you have time before driving off to the fjords make sure to visit the fiskebrygga (fish market) across from the ferry terminal. They have excellent food! We booked Color Line car ferry on the way back from Norway to Germany so will be interesting to see how that one compares.

Boarding is a nightmare. It took well over an hour (thus losing the time advantage as the other ferry is way faster to board). They took a row here, a row there and it honestly felt like forever. Once on board, the ferry is nice enough. It has a higher class upstairs with nicer seating and a buffet option. We sat up there despite not having a ticket. The regular seats are fine too. Because the ferry goes faster, you really feel the choppier seas. Our entire trip was very choppy. If you get seasick this may not be the ferry for you. Getting off the ferry took way longer than Colour Line too. It's a faster trip across the water but the time it takes to board and then get off really negates any time savings.
