Saw this place and wanted to try as I always pass by. Went in and got 1 set of beignets and a smoothie. Service was good but the wait time was too long. How long does it take to add milk, strawberries and berries to a blender? I'm sure the fruits were already frozen. The beignets were burnt AF! (See pic). I should've checked before I left but I never expected it to be burnt so imagine my suprised when I got home and realized. I also had to adjust the smoothie at home. This place had always caught my eye whenever I commuted along Frederick Douglass Blvd. Finally, while I was running errands around town, I stopped by Ganache for some coffee. I walked in to this quiet coffee shop. There were three other people there, reading or working on their laptops. The coffee shop is spacious. It was clean and modernly decorated. There was one worker behind the counter, who took my order right away. I decided to get an iced mocha in a medium. The barista whipped up my drink in no time, and I was pleasantly surprised to find my mocha was delicious! Me, being the super picky person that I am, found that the barista made my drink with a perfect balance of ingredients. And I cannot say the same for most places. I stopped by this coffee shop two more times after that. The second was the same experience, while the third time, a different barista was working on her first day on the job. It took her several tries, but since she was new, I cut her some slack. The ambient here is chill, and the coffee is good. Once I'm back in NYC again, I'll consider stopping by here for another cup of joe. read more

I couldn't WAIT for this place to open, but the mojo that kept it from opening seems to have infiltrated the place now that it is. The management needs to fix its problems or it will fail as a business. 1) Strange smell. There are candle and deodorizers everywhere due to some mystery smell. When I asked the cashier what that was about she said she didn't know and all she smelled was candles. 2) Weird vibe. No idea why, just didn't feel comfortable...there were no decorations or music or positive energy or anything, it felt like a dead space that I didn't want to spend time in. 3) Selfish cashier who should not have that job. After my order I opened my laptop to work and there were other people around on the phone and talking, which is ambient noise and of course all good. There was a loud noise though and I finally realized it was the cashier playing on her phone WITH THE VOLUME ON FULL BLAST. She was watching some video with obnoxious sounds coming out of it and I finally asked her about it. She said "What about it?" I explained it was loud, etc. She said defensively, "There's music on too." As if that was a fix? And I heard no music. This was one of those angry people who clearly doesn't get hospitality or even thoughtfulness and professionalism. I decided this was unacceptable and had to go, and was going to take my paid coffee with me at least to taste it, but then realized I wanted nothing to do with this place and chucked my overpriced Americano into the trash. As I exited the door the snarky cashier called out "Have a nice day!" and then I gave her a piece of my mind in return. What a nightmare. read more

After waiting forever (over a year?) for this place to open, underwhelmed was an understatement. It's been open for a little over a month and has zero charm or character. There is not a single decoration - no pictures or artwork on the walls, and it reminded me of a hospital cafeteria. There was no music playing and it smelled like mold/dirty gym socks? They must have known as there were air fresheners everywhere. With Double Dutch, Starbucks, Cafeine, Hops & Barley, and Cafe Frederick all on the same block, I'm not sure how they will last. I'm only writing this review because I really want this place to get better. Along with others, I was anticipating this place opening. And I'm still rooting for it. But...there is a bad (garbage?) smell in that place every time I've tried it. And that smell is clearly attracting flies, because there are usually flies there. Personally, I 'like' that this place isn't blasting loud music like other cafes. Love that. And the staff I've met have been VERY nice and helpful. Very pleasant and friendly. Sure, they could enhance the look and atmosphere of the cafe space a bit (personally, I like the sparse look, but I understand everyone isn't a minimalist). The only thing stopping me from coming there regularly is the weird smell and the flies. I can't handle that stuff. Must fix. read more

I LOVE the cashiers. They have been nothing but nice to me since my first visit and we all vibe. They know my drink of choice and I no longer have to ask. The ambiance is growing so I didn't expect this big elaborate set up from day one. I live in an area with zero parking, so this place is a gem for me-- I drive 15-20 mins just for this place. Came a few times to work and I gotta say it's been always pleasant. For those of you that give a low review a NEW and locally owned place... cmon. Go to a Starbucks if you want your expectations to be met. If you got a complaint, then just msg the owner or write a note. Don't cost them the future patrons they desperately need by whining on Yelp. The smell people report isn't here. The coffee is fine. Music is lower than the usual Starbucks. Wifi is fast and reliable. Bathroom is usually clean and neat. The Barista has always been pleasant. What more do you need? Sure, the espresso menu prices aren't cheap, but this is NYC (duh). But they freshly grind everything here and got all new high-end equipment. Prices are on par or lower than Starbucks. Their drip coffee is from beans they freshly grind (many places don't do that). Obviously, they're figuring things out as they go--- the Food and Bev biz in the city is brutal so I plan on coming here for awhile for support. read more

What a confusing, disappointing coffee shop. I live across the street so I've been anticipating this place opening for a while now, but I've been given no reason to ever go back again. Firstly they use Lavazza beans. Fine, whatever, though I don't see the point of opening a café in NYC in 2019 using basic Italian coffee when there are so many unique roasters out there (for contrast Shut Eye on 116th uses beans from a Harlem-based female roaster who roasts out of Brooklyn). That was the first disappointment. Then a lot went wrong in the service of the coffee: their POS lists it as "expresso", my cup was warmed with hot water (fine) but served to me wet, no saucer/spoon (just the little cup), and I was asked if I wanted milk when I ordered, which is strange for an espresso order. Then two more reasons to never come back: my change was supposed to be $0.28 and I was handed only a quarter with no explanation (going straight to the tip jar, but still, at least say something), and when I went to sit down I was in between an unpleasant air freshener and a dying fly on the counter. Also their baked goods look like the cheapest most mass-produced things available, like they picked up a box of croissants from the grocery store down the block. There is no reason to go here, especially with the other options nearby. Huge disappointment. read more

This is a relatively new coffee shop, competing with a lot of similar establishments. Not easy. They have minimalist decor, a huge, quiet space. Not for everyone, but honestly, in NYC, I appreciate that. I could get Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts anywhere. I could go to a pretentious coffee shop that offers 256 types of milk/non milk additives and baristas that are so over it anywhere. I can't get the warmth and lovely hospitality like I get at Ganache. I can't get an absolutely dreamy cappuccino that lifts me up into the clouds like I get at Ganache. I can't get comfortable chairs and a quiet, nice sized workspace like I get at Ganache. Did I mention the warmth of the staff? The gal working there makes me feel like family. That is exceedingly rare in NYC. They have sugar for the coffee - you just have to ask. I don't blame them for not having it out in the open. People can be wasteful. Running a business is hard. I like this coffee bar. Great place to have a meeting. Music is mellow and not overwhelming. The staff is very nice.

Yikes! With all the other great coffee shops within a few blocks and with how long this place took to open up, you would think they would have more to offer than nasty coffee, a weird smell and a soulless place with no music or art or any ambiance. I hope my experience shows this place is turning a corner after the negative reviews. The cashier (Pamela) is new (it's her 4th day) and she made the experience friendly and wonderful. She wasn't overly chatty, just the perfect kind of friendly interaction you want on a Saturday morning at a neighborhood coffee shop. I will be back! read more

They are improving. They've added some music, that weird smell was gone. The new cashier was pleasant and helpful and honestly a mood lifter. All this opposed to my first visit when one of the girls, angry about a paycheck, was complaining about it in front of customers and the place smelled. But sadly on two visits the coffee, ambience and experience just isn't as good as the other cafes along the same street. Here's hoping they continue to improve as time goes on. read more
