I have gone on three occasions; buffet brunch, breakfast, and lunch. The buffet brunch on Sunday was very nice because you get to choose from an array of choices. I especially enjoyed the carne asada and quiche. For breakfast, I had the quiche again with fresh fruit. When I went for lunch, I had the tortilla soup which was delicious. 1st visit last Wednesday on our way to San Diego. Had a great experience with a great cobb salad and southwest quiche. Awesome service! Made us want to return on our trip home. We were advised to call for a reservation, which we did. Arrived one hour before closing, had to wait to be noticed and seated. Servers were already prepping for closing and barely paid any attention to us. Sandwiches were barely deli quality. I guess it depends on what you order-stick to their specialties, tri-tip, salads, tortilla soup. As for service, I hope they improve service to all customers and not just wanting to prep to get out of there as soon as possible. read more

I am fairly confident The Garden is the first restaurant I visited where all the tables were outside in the garden- there was no indoor seating. On this particular morning I arrived just in time as the staff was soon caught off guard by a rush of patrons. Evidently all teachers in all Arizona schools walked out (wear Red for Ed campaign) and decided to eat out this morning. The food was simply terrific! My red potatoes-all-the-way were cooked perfectly with plenty of bacon, cheese and spices to make it taste wonderful. The only downside to my otherwise perfect breakfast was the coffee. It was no better than the coffee I left behind at my hotel. Would definitely be back and highly recommend The Garden Cafe. NOTE: they close May - October! We have visited twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. The garden while providing a unique setting, the obvious issue of course is the weather. The breakfast menu is more interesting and we did enjoy eating breakfast there. The lunch menu is a little too bland and unexciting. The chicken salad was pretty benign, served with a very small side, wife choose waldorf salad which was definitely not fresh nor appealing. The tri tip dip sandwich was pretty plain also, not tender nor flavorful, the dip was over powering in flavor and very salty. The sides were a simple greens salad with a vinaigrette, also underwhelming, and a small serving of pinto beans, again nothing special. DIRTY SILVERWARE I met my girlfriend for lunch yesterday. She is a regular and knows manager Debbie. We had lunch outside surrounded by birdcages and plants and shaded by umbrellas and trees. Nice. She ordered the Chicken Salad Stuffed Tomato $12.75. I ordered the Homemade Garden Vegetable Quiche $15.75. The menu listed its contents as spinach, mushrooms and two kinds of cheese baked to perfection. The menu said it would be served with homemade fruit bread and fresh fruit. As I was unwrapping my silverware from its white paper napkin, I saw a fork covered with baked on food, a dirty knife and clean spoon. I almost barfed. My friend had the same reaction. The table next to us was set for 4, so we unwrapped a 2nd set, also dirty, then unwrapped a 3rd set, also dirty, then a 4th set, which had a clean fork it in. This absolutely ruined our lunch. We asked to speak with manager Debbie. While we waited, we began to eat. My quiche was barely warm. The kitchen substituted fruit bread with a super sweet cinnamon coffee cake. Yuck. Some of the fresh fruit was ripe, most was not. Three more times, we requested to speak with manage Debbie. She never did come to our table, but keep looking in our direction. The waitress offered us a complimentary dessert. Our dishes and silverware had been removed and we had no interest in trying to hunt down clean silverware. We were then offered 20% off our bill, but, instead were given a $5 discount off the bill. I will never be back. Dirty silverware is a real turnoff. Having to go through (4) sets of silverware to find one (1) clean fork tells me there is truly a problem here. read more

Stopped in for the first time yesterday after a recommendation. Great idea and cute establishment, but so disappointed in the food. It was cold out and I ordered a big bowl of tortilla soup, which ended up being a big bowl of tomato flavored hot water with a hand full of tortilla pieces and a single slice of avocado. At $10 a bowl I was thoroughly disappointed, and left hungry. Will absolutely not return. If it's cold out this is definitely not the place to be, not near enough heaters. read more

This is such a unique restaurant. It's has such a pleasant atmosphere. There is indoor seating but we normally try to sit outside on the patio where most of the seating is. Their food is delicious and their service is great! Just call ahead as they can be very busy and prefer reservations. It is worth the visit, you won't be disappointed! read more

To get a table here is a total experience since the place is always half empty and apparently booked all the time food is bad and overpriced, I paid 4.99 for orange Juice and I thought it would be freshly squeezed ... man was I wrong it was OJ concentrate that it's like thick... They just opened for the season. I've finally tried this place after hearing so much about it. You walk in and down the stairs to open-air seating. It's recommended to have reservations before hand as it can get busy. They had our table ready as soon as we arrived there. I had the tortilla soup and chicken salad sandwich. Everybody had recommended the tortilla soup so I wanted to see what the fuss was about....Let me tell you, it lives up to everybodys' hype. It was nice and hot, with onions, tortilla chips, avocado, cheese, just everything you want it to taste like! I loved it! My only complaint about that lunch was this bee who continued to disrupt our lunch, but other than that, the food was good! This is the hidden gem of downtown Yuma. My friend had been telling me to come here for a long time and we finally got around to it. The food did not disappoint, but the atmosphere is what makes this a total standout! I love the different levels of outdoor seating so every table feels like a great spot. The birds were absolutely adorable (they have a huge outside bird cage filled with cockatiels and parakeets), and we loved listening to their sweet chips over breakfast. Our entire table opted for the buffet breakfast and really enjoyed every option. The biscuits and gravy were fantastic, as well as the rice and beans. Outside from the parking lot it doesn't seem like much, there's barely even a sign to indicate you've arrived at the restaurant but once you walk through this moderately narrow stairway down to where the restaurant is, it opens up into this rather nice outdoor dining area! It's like a little hidden garden! Food: 1) Turkey scramble with fruit bread: Very tasty and flavorful. There was plenty of cheese and little bits of turkey which all blended together very well with the scrambled eggs. It came with home fries and a cantaloupe wedge. There was a piece of fruit bread that tasted very delicious! Not too sweet or dense. The portions were pretty big! I could only finish half the meal and I eat a lot! I liked how the meal tasted and how it came together! Very nice! Totally hit the spot! 2) Swedish pancakes: I only tasted a little bit of what my friend ordered, but from the little bit I tried, it was VERY good. The consistency of the pancakes were different than regular American pancakes because I think a little bit of oatmeal was added to the batter. It gave it a different texture which was very interesting. Ambiance: Outdoor seating only. It can get a little cold but luckily they have heating lamps you can sit next to. The tables and chairs were very simple, there's an intricate fruit pattern on the table cloth that made it a little too cluttered and busy. It's pretty quiet, a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the morning. Service: Very friendly, welcoming and attentive to all your needs! I loved the staff there! Very nice! Price: Reasonable for quality, portions and service. The bill came out to be $33 (tax and tip included). Not too bad for the amount of food I ate and got to bring home. My sister and I treated the family to the Mothers day buffet. The reservation was last minute, so I was grateful that we could make Moms request happen. Cute venue, but the constant shooing of the flies was a major impediment to a relaxing lunch. A six foot buffet table offered eight different meat/egg dishes, with no explanation of which was what. A single stainless steel bowl of melon chunks was the only other offering to a meat only spread. No greens, no vegetables, no salad fixings ON MOTHERS DAY!! We stop in Yuma on our way to and from Phoenix to charge our car and stumbled across the Garden Cafe on this trip. The first time around was for lunch and we really enjoyed the menu and the nice outdoor setting. The staff and service was amazing! Everyone who came by our table was friendly and very accommodating. Our toddler even had fun getting to play in the courtyard. We just stopped through the second time and Sunday brunch was going. You can order the full buffet or from the smaller breakfast menu. I ordered from the menu and food was great. The buffet had lots of options as well. On 1/24/21 My wife and group of her friends went here were treated poorly by the staff. My wife made a reservation for 8 and only five of her friends showed. The staff refused to seat the party until 6 of 8 arrived. Once seated the server refused to let them order food, drinks only, till the rest of the party arrived. After a 30 min and it was clear The rest of the party would not arrive they finally took their order after an hour of being seated. Food arrived and it was cold. This place used to be exceptional and one of our favorite places. But it is now run by rude staff and cold food. We will not recommend this brunch any more. read more

I can't rate this place for food because we were never able to order. We had a party of 6 that came for lunch at 12:30 on Saturday Oct 10 since garden cafe was given good reviews. When we got to the cafe there were about 6-8 empty tables I could see, we told the hostess the number in our the party and she said she would find a table, when she returned she told us it would be an hour wait! We asked why, she gave no explanation and didn't seem to care so we left and the cafe lost out on our business. I'd have second thoughts about coming here based on the shoddy service. read more

This is an oasis in the desert. The Setting: a lovely, relaxing garden; the Breakfast menu: Interesting and delightful; the Service: attentive, knowledgeable and friendly; the Food: fabulous. A bit "hidden" near old town Yuma, close to the City Hall and sharing the block with the Sanguinetti House Museum, this is a real "find". I opted for the Garden Southwest Quiche -- moist and very flavorful (and I had the Pumpkin Coffee !); my husband had the Kammann sausage plate - he was concerned that it might be too spicy, but not the case. Whenever we have plans to head to San Diego from Tucson, we will definitely plan our schedule to stop at the Garden Cafe for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch. read more

My husband and I recently made a cross-country trip, and I found the Garden Cafe here on Yelp while looking for something better than your run-of-the-mill road-trip food. We arrived in Yuma in the middle of a sunny but very windy day, and we found the restaurant easily. Parking was on the street, but was ample. The gardens surrounding the restaurant were lush and gorgeous, and the bird-watching (both those in cages and the wild birds) was definitely entertaining. The restaurant was charming, the waitstaff exceptional, and the food was delicious. In fact, the only complaint I can think of is that none of the waitstaff's pens seemed to work on their receipt paper when I was attempting to sign our charge card bill. :) If I ever visit Yuma again, I would definitely add the Garden Cafe to my list of must-dine-at restaurants. read more
