A really nice hotel just over the border in Gretna, Scotland. We had our wedding there last month & were very pleased with the venue. Everything went very smoothly, as these people do weddings day in and day out!
We opted for a package deal to cut down on planning hassle. It worked out very well - the hotel took care of all the details for us and made sure everything went smoothly.
The gardens of the hotel are TO DIE FOR and absolutely gorgeous. Going up to Scotland to get married here was worth it just to have our pictures (and ceremony!) conducted outdoors in the beautiful hotel gardens. They are small but colourful and well-presented. I love the natural look, so it was just perfect.
The food at our reception was equally delicious and first-rate. I had the best tomato soup I've ever had for our starter, and the portion of lamb was GIGANTIC - made it hard not to pop the seams of my wedding dress!!
The only thing stopping this hotel from getting a 5 rating is some of the staff. No one was ever UNfriendly, but they could definitely work on being more forthcoming with information and more pleasant at the reception. Whenever I asked questions, the receptionist (not the same one either - all of them except one) always had the attitude that I was inconveniencing her greatly. Also, the rooms are a BIT outdated (though perfect comfortable with all mod cons - I just mean the decor) and the advertised spa bath was just a tiny bathtub with jets! However, there is a lovely pool & spa for guest use - 25m pool, large jacuzzi, steam room and sauna - very nice. read more
