Came for late lunch and was seated right away. There's a small elevator that we used to go to the…read moresecond floor. The restaurant is a historic 19th-century structure in Mexico City's Centro Histórico. It's a classic, sit-down Mexican restaurant specializing in traditional breakfast and regional dishes. We tried a mole, lengua and different tacos. Someone was walking around with some freshly baked fish empanada which was surprisingly so tasty!

Came as they first opened so there was no line as I'm told there usually is. There are 3 floors…read more So we were escorted to the 2nd floor which is the main floor. Upon being seated we were offered coffee or hot chocolate. I chose chocolate as I was told It was their specialty and I could smell chocolate in the air. It wasn't too sweet and I prefer the rich thick European hot chocolate that's more like just sipping melted chocolate. This was thinner and more watery and Mexican chocolate has a cinnamon flavor to it. It was good but not great. And 87 pesos. Next we were offered bread I chose the concha. It was still warm and so soft. Easily the best concha I've had. Be aware that it's not free. They had other selections, the one my friend got was savory so I didn't care for that one as much. For breakfast I chose the scrambled eggs with longaniza 180 pesos. The portion was konda small and the longaniza was cut up and mixed into the eggs. I thought it would be whole sausages on the plate. It came with a small portion of refried beans. I guess it was a fair portion for about $10 US. The place is pretty nice and fancy so it's a nice change from the street stands and casual eateries. Though you do pay more in comparison. Overall I thought the food was ok. But it was nice to have a fancy sit down restaurant and have fabulous service. Just be aware that every thing is served ala cart; so even if they offer it to you there is a cost to it.

Loved this place! Before we ordered, a tray with a bounty and variety of pastries was offered to us. The roll I selected was so very good...I had another after the main course. For breakfast I ordered scrambled eggs with little pieces of ribeye beef on top., accompanied by little black refrigerator beans. It was all very good. There was attention to every detail here. Although the restaurant was filled, it was quiet and quaint and so enjoyable. We liked it so much, we plan to return during our trip! dinner!

On our last night he said we are going to a fabulous authentic Mexican restaurant. A 2 minute walk from the hotel brought us to Las Mercedes. The service is impeccable and the menu is diverse an authentic drawing from different regions of Mexico. Our waiter spent a considerable amount of time with us describing the dishes of interest to us. I finally said pork and spicy please. Our appetizers included beef and veggie tacos. My dining companion had the blackened red snapper and I had the shredded pork cooked in banana leaves homemade corn tortillas accompanied my dish. To be honest I could have ordered a dozen more menu offerings as each looked fabulous. If you are in the area this is a must for dinner or even brunch. 6 Yelp Stars!
