Garnet Hill sells quality clothing. Since they carry various brands, the sizing can be quite inconsistent, which often means buying two sizes with the plan on returning one. HOWEVER, don't plan on seeing your refund for at least a month after they receive the return. They put lots of effort into sending catalogs and emails, but really take their time processing returns and refunds. They received my return on 4/21/23, processed it on 5/5/23, and then mailed me a paper check on 5/18/23, even though I paid by credit card. Apparently they "updated" their computer system during this time and it wiped out all of the credit card information, resulting in the need to mail a check, but I would have expected expedited service on the return since no one expects to receive a refund in the form of a paper check in 2023. read more

Worst online shopping experience I have ever had. Prices are high and then you have the unfortunate experience of having a website that basically is not up to snuff. I have always loved Garnet Hill products. But I bought a dress I didn't like. Price on sale, $44. I returned it immediately and only got $29 returned to my account. Ticked, I called customer service. I was told that when one returns something, one then has to pay for the shipping to the customer, as well as the shipping back to the company. Not fair. Told it's written on the site. So I live on-line and often have to pay shipping if I return a product. But NEVER the additional shipping costs related to store's shipping out to me. So BEWARE. They are now in season; I'd finally lost the weight, and I was anxious to see them on. I was shocked they were now far too big. As they had been kept in their bags and were in NWT condition, Garnet Hill gladly accepted the return for a full refund! So, I'll gladly pay S&H. The trick to surviving winter without turning on the heater is getting quality flannel sheets. My shiftless wiener dog has multiple pet beds around the house, but he still prefers to get on to MY bed and crawl under MY sheets and hibernate there all day. Garnet Hill has a great selection of quality bed and bath items that doesn't disintegrate after a few washes. They're not known for being cheap but most items are well worth the splurge. P.S. I would love to write a great review of my new $128 bathing suit; but as it turns out I do not have it and I'm out $128. When I ordered it online, I received a receipt email. I opened it with in a few hours of ordering and noticed the shipping address was incorrect. I immediately notified customer service via email to stop the shipment and I also went online to change my shipping address (which by the way web designers at GH, is not that easy to access--which is part of the problem). I wasn't getting any response so I also called the customer service number (this is all within 8 hours of my order) . The customer service rep told me it was already "in processing" so there was nothing I could do. She admitted to this happening to her as well even though she's worked at GH for like 15 years. Her advice was to just go over to the house that it was sent to and ask them for it. She said the owners of that house could also just sent it back. I mentioned that they might think of redesigning their order page so it's easier to double check and update addresses. She made it sound like I was the luddite and there was nothing wrong with the navigation. I simply reminded her that the customer is always right and that it was just a suggestion. I've never had a problem with any other website like this. Amazon is so popular because its ordering pages are customer-friendly and easy to navigate. I'm truly disappointed that the one time I decide to spend so much on a bathing suit; I don't have it. It is currently at the owners of the house I sold a long time ago and I'm too scared to drive all the way over their and try and find it. I was sent a "please review" email and so I sent this. Caution on getting returns reimbursed: paid $217.13 total for two blouses. They did not fit right so I had to return them. They only reimbursed me: $181. 10. They charge for return shipping, keep the taxes and maybe some other fee? I couldn't track it all. Bottom line: I was only reimbursed $181.10. So I am out about $37 for just trying on two blouses! Love their products but customer service lost my business. I have been a steady, high value customer for years. My last two orders were over $500 together, to give an idea. Yes, I know it's the pandemic, but they've made NO effort to contact me about 2 orders I placed on May 18 & 20 except to charge me for them. I purchased 2 items from Garnet Hill recently. They didn't fit so I sent them back to GH. It's been 21/2 months and still have not received a refund. I emailed GH many times and they said they need the tracking number for the package I sent back. Due to COVID, I didn't take the package into the post office, but put it in the mail box. Purchased 2 $39 T's. They fit like a loose swim suit. Really gross. It took 11 days to process the return. Rather than reimbursing the whole price for the original purchase, all they did was waive the return shipping of $7 at my request. That means that when one returns something, and you don't make a special request, she are out $19-20, $12 for the send and $7 for the return. That's absurd. Think twice before placing an order with Garnet Hill. Prices are way inflated anyway. And then to gouge the customer for shipping both ways is absurd. In total, I'm going to end up spending $80 to try on dresses and shoes. What a waste. The box also came already completely open. I had a similar experience to others who ordered a product, it was never shipped, and when I called to inquire about it, they literally told me it was being loaded onto a truck "as we speak" and so therefore the order couldn't be canceled. It wasn't true. They actually canceled the order and when I called back days later to check on the order (since I never got a shipping confirmation email) they said the order had been canceled. I have shopped at Garnet Hill for over 21 years and have seen big changes over the years. I'm very disappointed in the expensive shipping and return costs. They ship by SurePost (item starts with UPS, who then delivers to your post office, and then the post office decides to deliver it when it's convenient for them). You can wait several days or more until an item is actually shipped from Garnet Hill, then ten days or so until it arrives. Not acceptable in today's online shopping world, when Amazon Prime can deliver the next day at no cost. It's impossible to know if something will fit when you buy online, and their inconsistent sizing doesn't help. You end up paying over $22 for the "privilege" of trying on and returning an item. They have also started charging sales tax, so what seems like a bargain becomes very expensive after you add in the sales tax and shipping. In addition, the quality of their items varies wildly. Some things items are very good quality and others are very poorly made. This year, I've ended up sending back more than I've kept, which has been expensive. They need to get back the excellent customer service they used to have, offer free shipping and returns, get consistent sizing and have better quality control over their goods. From area rugs, to quilts, sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers, towels, face cloths, all at dirt cheap prices. It was like Filense's wedding dress sale in comparison. Pure craziness!! I have ordered from Garnet Hill for a few years and up until now, I have had no complaint. However, I just got off a support chat, which has me questioning them. I placed an order for a tee shirt, which was a $40.00, but some were on sale ($24.00 - $40.00 noted on the screen). When I selected my size and color it stated the cost of the specific shirt was $24.00. I ordered two (different colors, both showing $24.00). When I went to my Cart, it showed the price for each as $40.00. I did an online chat and was told they were $40.00 only one color was $24.00 (not one I had selected). I stated that the price displayed after I selected each specific color. I was told it was an error and for me to send them a screen print so their technical folks could look at it! I've been shopping there pretty regularly for about a year now, but that has come to an end. Their clothes are very nice for the most part, but generally quite overpriced if not on sale. And in this day and age of plentiful free shipping and returns, it's annoying to have to pay for shipping and returns. Annnnd, even if they insist on charging for shipping, the amounts they charge are simply ridiculous. They clearly are using shipping as an additional way to make profits. They are not merely covering the cost of their shipping. If you told me they are a small company and can't afford to offer free shipping (as some have defended in reviews here), then, fine, cover their costs for shipping. But their charges are robbery. And as one reviewer said, to charge you more for shipping the more you buy (as if the items weigh THAT MUCH), is punishing you for buying a lot. That's just dumb. Also, returns take a good while, and I just recently tried my first exchange. After sending the items back almost three weeks ago and requesting different sizes, I still haven't heard a word. It's irritating that you can't do an exchange by phone and have to use snail mail in the first place. They charge upscale prices but their policies and practices are not upscale. I've decided it's too irritating to continue to support them, and to pay their exorbitant shipping fees is just being a chump. With all the pretty clothes at Nordstrom and Zappos and other places who offer quick, easy returns and exchanges, and don't charge shipping, it's just not possible to justify continuing to shop at GH. I purchased some sweaters and the price had changed, I called to request a price adjustment but the rep could not assist so I had to ship the items back and re-order. It is a clear waste of resources. Secondly, I ordered items on Friday and called today, Wednesday, and the order has not yet been processed/shipped. It shouldn't take almost 4 days to ship products out. The leather on the $130 gladiator sandals is of such horrible quality that it resembles plastic..something you might find at a flea market for $10!! I received a sweater as a Christmas gift that was very pretty but did not look nice on me so I returned it using the label provided on December 26th. Tracking shows it was received on December 29th. Today, February 3rd, I finally received a refund check. Well, after reading all those terrible reviews, I felt I had to say something. I have been shopping with Garnet Hill for several years, which has not been kind on my wallet, but very good for my wardrobe. I always get compliments on their dresses. I like the Eileen Fisher designs that are exclusive to GH. They have some sales that bring their usually steep prices to ridiculously low levels. As for the quality of clothes - I bought my first GH dress 6 years ago, it still looks new. The only two things I had to throw out because I wore them out were a pair of shoes (my dog ate them), and a bathing suit (very few suits would stand up to 3 times a week 1 hour practices in the pool for an extended period of time). GH clothes are classy, they don't go out of style. You can return them at any time (I believe that's one of the reasons their prices are so high and that they still charge shipping). I had to talk to customer service more than once, never had a bad experience - everyone is polite and helpful. In case you are wondering - no, I don't work for Garnet Hill.
