I was a little skeptical of staying in a condo complex because I usually like something more off-the-beaten path but Pilar does not feel overly kitschy and the location cannot be beat in the area. Plus it was affordable even with an extra condo fee for utilities. We rented direct from an owner via Homeaway and paid about $80 USD per night for a one bedroom with two twin daybeds in the living room (so split between four people). You can find many Pilar units for rent on sites like airbnb, VRBO, and Homeaway. This complex is at the end of the road directly overlooking a beautiful estuary and right on the beach. Our unit had views of both. Amazing birding in the estuary! You are about 5 minutes drive from groceries and the center of town but the area and views are practically undeveloped, unlike other beaches in the area. Peaceful and out-of-the-way. The water is like a swimming pool (unheated :) ) and dolphins visited daily when we were there around New Years. A man named Alejandro shows up sort of daily with really delicious fresh fish, shrimp, citrus juices, and honey if you just can't drag yourself from the beach to get supplies. Also, their is a small bar/restaurant we did not try, but there if you need it.

July is a great time to go, as it gets extremely hot in August and September. For about $20, you get a 1 hour horseback ride to the beach and back. Astrid is the owner of the desert ranch and trains and treats all of her horses very well. She selects a horse specific to you and your riding level/needs. She even lended me some riding boots! I got the pleasure of riding with "Temblor" or Tremble since this was my first time. He was extremely mellow and gentle, and I didn't really need to do much. I would redirect him once in a while since he's like me and likes to eat and veer off every now and then when we were near berry bushes. The ride was very enjoyable and I will definitely be back when I am in town. (By the way, the desert ranch is scheduled to move locations down the street in September). Happy riding!

The ocean is clear blue and the backdrop of the mountains just adds to its spectacularity. Stand by the rail and breathe it all in ! There are vendors who sell cute little items & clothes if you're interested. There's also Mexican ice cream made in a cold bucket. I forget what it's called but it's good. Parking is limited. You might have to park down the hill & walk up. Go later in the evening to enjoy the sunset and jet the heat go down. So, stop by and enjoy the view!

We rented a 3 bed room apartment with 2 full bathrooms, all 6 of us slept comfortably and enjoyed our stay. The clienteles are mostly older white Americans who are not looking to party hard like in Cancun. It's great for those who just want to relax in a quiet environment because you won't run into obnoxious spring breakers. It's relatively safe and clean, but you need a car to get here. I met an European couple who reside in AZ that come here every year for the past 10 years, they love it because it's inexpensive and clean. The apartment comes with all the basic kitchen utensils and plates, we bought some groceries from a nearby supermarket and cooked a few meals. The beach itself is ok, not amazing but compared to other beaches it feels more private because very few people are swimming. PS- Bring insect repellent!

Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Water bottles are provided. Rooms have AC and fans. Tiled bathrooms. Most trims have balconies. Prices are high for local market but reasonable for US. Good for families and for business travelers. I recommend this hotel when visiting Guaymas.

The parking lot probably only has 20 spaces and the lobby was very inviting. Check in was fairly smooth, but not very friendly. The king room was fairly spacious, equipped with a fridge, microwave, ironing board, a safe and a great view of the water. (All rooms face the water but there are only 4 floors so aim high if available). The pool area has two jacuzzis but only one was actually hot during my stay. I didn't make it into either. No direct access to the beach as there is no beach directly below the property but there is sand on the lower level below the pool area. Poolside service was pretty good, the beer was nice and cold and the coconut shrimp were delicious.

While checking in we learned the hot tub was closed for maintenance but the pool was open and heated. We checked the pool when we went to dinner and it was cold. We woke up on Saturday morning to the sound of grinding and sanding from the pool area. The have a work crew grinding , cutting and sanding the pool deck with dust filling the pool and entire deck. The only reason we returned was to enjoy the heated pool and hot tub. My question or complaint is why is this work scheduled for a weekend? This is not a repair or down a few hours for cleaning, this is a big project. And should have need planned for the middle of the week when less people are staying.

Kinda annoying cuz it was 3 of us one key and different sleep schedules. Pool is warm perhaps cuz it's 100 degrees here in late June. They do have a jacuzzi as well. They also have a gym but not open at the moment not that I wanna work out on my really weird vacation. I do t know how San Carlos is when COVID not around but I enjoyed the quiet time here. It's a sleepy village unlike puerto penasco. I will definitely be back when this is over to see it's full potential.

The jacuzzi was dirty and cold. Besides all that the customer service was the worst!! From the moment we checked the attendant had a mean and unfriendly welcome attitude! Also the bartender was rude. It just seemed like everyone working in the hotel was unhappy. The price of the hotel does not match with the level of service and accommodations. The hotel is more like a Motel! Also the noise in the hotel was terrible! We got no sleep as you can hear doors slamming, the loud music from the restaurant and people pounding! It was my first time visiting San Carlos and was looking forward to the hotel based on its reviews. Stay away from this place! The most disappointing experience are the staff who have zero customer service, they don't make you feel welcomed and look miserable! On the contrary we walked to have brunch at Marinaterra Hotel and had a complete different experience!!! Wish I would have stayed there!
