This place had a very warm atmosphere with the lighting and wooden floor. I had the Schweinebraten and it was perfect. Crispy outside and tender inside. The portion size was more than enough. The red cabbage and potato dumpling with the gravy were excellent. Our server was great. Friendly and helpful while we decided on our meals. Gut bürgerliche Küche, die keine Beanstandungen zulässt. Alle unsere Essen haben hervorragend geschmeckt. Die Bewirtung hat leider etwas lange gedauert. Das hat man auch ein wenig an der Bedienung gemerkt. Sie hat sich große Mühe gegeben, dass man ihr den Stress nicht ansieht. Schluss endlich konnte sie es jedoch nicht völlig verbergen. We had the luxury of eating at Rheingold. We had just arrived in Augsburg at 10 pm, and were…read morelooking for a location that could feed a group of four that were 1) exhausted 2) had a nut allergy and a vegetarian in the crowd and 3) were sick of just schnitzel. Rheingold more than delivered and was a brief 10 minute walk from our hotel (The Holiday Inn Express). We ordere the well acclaimed meal rolls and vegetarian rolls (both a smash), the chicken curry with a coconut milk soaked bread mixed in, and a few various salad options that were fantastic. The meal is a fantastic culinary adventure for the more than fair prices. Also, our server, Beno, spoke flawless English and was more than amenable to the floundering English speakers and explaining menu items (it was only our second day in Germany.) Our server even ended up giving us tips on where to visit in Augsburg. The meal was such a fantastic smash in terms of service and food that my family considered driving all the way back to Augsburg from Frankfurt for the remaining low-key/no-plans day we had. If you're looking for fantastic food and/or a late night option and/or great service with a good drink selection and nice low-key area, head here. And if you're staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Nagahama, just come here and don't worry about it.
