Great Lasagna, long awaited…read more My wife and I were recently in Bern and needed some dinner. Some of our tour group went to the Westside Mall and found Spiga. A few of the guys on the trip had been looking for some Lasagna, and this was our 3rd city to try to find some. I know what you're thinking. You're in Switzerland - and you want Italian food? Hey, it happens. Well, Spiga did a fantastic job! The folks that took care of us - from taking the order to those cooking our food - were all pleasant and understanding. Let me elaborate. The guy that prepared our lasagna said his wife was from Switzerland when he met her in the States, and they had moved back over here. He was originally from Miami, FL, had also spent 11 years in Augusta, GA, and they were moving to Nashville, TN next month for a new job he was starting. It's a small world, isn't it? Anyway, those of us that had the Lasagna felt it was exceptionally good - especially considering to have found it in a shopping mall in Bern, Switzerland - a long way from home. So, if you're in the area or simply passing through, be sure to try the Lasagna at Spiga's in the Westside mall.

They were kind enough to find us a seating overlooking the Aare river. The Aare river which surrounds the old city of Bern, so the view is spectacular. We saw a heron sitting out on the water. Beautiful birds and nature to take it in while you eat and drink. You will find fish and Meditarrean dishes. We had Hugo and several dishes. The food were tasty with local flavors. They had some Asian influenced dishes. The waitress were friendly. We got some small tasting complimentary from the chefs. A favorite spot for lunch/ dinner. Also plenty of seating inside and outside. Great for groups as well. A must visit for a spectacular experience

I was able to get a menu with a partial English translation (my German is too limited to order much beyond sausages and cutlets). The restaurant offered a modest but sufficient selection, including several standard Bern dishes. There was also a decent selection of wines. I ordered pan-fried trout topped with apples and served on rosti that was very good. The fish was excellently done, and the rosti was good, if a bit oily. The prices were reasonable--CHF 43.20 for dinner, two glasses of wine, and pear sorbet. There are enough good choices on the menu to make this a great place for a family or group.

An outdoor table, the church bells at the cathedral nearby, the wine, the food, it was all perfect. Bern was only a few days of our trip and we went to Volver twice. I got the salad (fantastic - lots of veggies) and chicken as the main course. The kitchen didn't mind my special request of having only vegetables on the side instead of vegetables and potatoes. The food was delicious and served quickly so I could get back to the office. My friend and I were very happy here.
