I was very impressed by our visit to the Gastmaal Café. The place is sort of a hole-in-the-wall neighborhood restaurant, but it was certainly popping on the Thursday night that we visited. The menu features small plates that are meant for sharing. I especially remember the Makreel rillette, but a lot of the other dishes that we ordered are now a blur. That's in part because of the wine -- these guys run a sort of unfined, unfiltered biodynamic kind of place, and they're happy to pour tastes of any wine that looks interesting but you worry might not be up your alley.
The place has a lot of cool; the cool comes from the customers as well as the personnel. It's worth a detour! read more
