Malia returned my call and scheduled a video appointment for me. There was a 2 month wait, but that's because of Dr. Ah Loy's diagnostic skills and equipment. He ordered a gastric emptying study and blood tests. No diagnosis yet but Kaiser just approved another 2nd opinion visit for my unexplained weight loss. Dr. Ah Loy can perform many procedures and asks the right questions. He listens well, is thoughtful and empathetic. Highly recommend! read more

These nudniks have been giving me the runaround for a year and a half now! Earlier last year, they scheduled me an appointment re: my doctor's referral. The appointment was scheduled for around July. They kept calling me to confirm and I confirmed. In fact, they called me MULTIPLE TIMES to confirm, and I confirmed. A few days before the appointment, they cancelled saying they couldn't treat me because I have a pacemaker. Okay, fine. Earlier THIS year, they called me to schedule another appointment for today (06/10/25.) I'm thinking, "Great! They sorted things out, I'm good to go!" In fact, last MONTH they called me to schedule the PROCEDURE in August. And just like the FIRST time, they kept calling me to confirm and I did. In fact, they sent me TEXTS, and I'd confirm those too. Just like anybody else would, I'm thinking we're all on track! Then I go in for the appointment today: Me: "Hello, I'm here for my appointment." Receptionist: *puzzled "Uh, hhmm... what's your name?" *I give her my name Receptionist: *checks computer "Oh, your appointment was cancelled." Me: *trying to remain calm "Wait a minute, how can that be? I talked to you guys confirming, even confirmed with your texts!" Receptionist: *checks computer "It's saying here we reached out to confirm your appointment but never got an answer." Me: "Yeah, nah... I TALKED to you guys! Confirmed BOTH appointments. I even confirmed your texts!" *show her the texts Receptionist: *checks computer "Do you have a pacemaker?" Me: "Yes! We've discussed this. You guys KNOW this!" Receptionist: "Well, we can't treat you. You'll have to find another referral from your doctor." Me: "My doctor has sent out referrals and YOU GUYS are the ones who keep scheduling appointments with me!" Receptionist: "Well unfortunately, I can't help you." I left politely, but I gotta tell ya... I was FUMING! I can see one inconvenient screw up, but the same screw up TWICE?! And over a year and a half?! Here was a tall, jolly, smiling man, who was so ethical that he wouldn't even schedule my colonoscopy without checking first with my cardiologist. He knew that I'd just recently had heart problems. This, to me, says dedication and caring. He also made me laugh, a big plus in my book! I would recommend Dr Montell to anyone who might need the services of a careful, professional gastroenterologist, who isn't just interested in the fee, but seeks to really help the client! read more

If they had negative stars I'd give him -5!!! This man was so unprofessional in dealing with my wife I spent an hour consoling her and she just retired after teaching almost 25 years here in Hawaii!! She can take a lot but the insults and bullying from this man was beyond unprofessional. He should be disciplined by the state medical review board and I hope they respond to our complaint. read more

There is actually no stars for this doctor but I had to give at least 1 star. He is very unprofessional and sarcastic to say the least. He even questioned another Gastroenterologist's findings. I tried switching before to another doctor in the same office but they said they don't allow that. It seems like once he can no longer help a patient that's it. He said I could seek a mainland doctor but thinks they're going to give the same diagnosis. How does he know that??? I was so angry and wanted other people to know what kind of doctor he is. Unfortunately, we don't have too many Gastroenterologists on the Big Island. read more
