Unfortunately, this barbershop is in decline now going into sunset of a small business. Barbers are rude and don't care anymore if the customer is satisfied. The management too has given up trying to make customers happy. Very sad. I used to get my haircut here, quite regularly. But my loyalty did not mean anything to the management. I was late once by 20 minutes and they refused to cut mine and my son's hair. I remember waiting several times for more than 30 minutes when I had an appointment. But that did not matter to the management. I left and later found they had charged me for 2 haircuts. Loyalty means nothing to these guys. I called the manager and he said he didn't care. Sad that it came to that. Do yourself a favor and patronize a barber that will remember how important customer satisfaction is. Gateway doesn't care. And just want to add that the reply below by Gerardo B is a complete lie. I was not told anything about calling back on Tuesday to resolve. Gerardo just made this up after reading my review. So sad that they have to resort to trying to hide their rude and uncaring attitude. Very poor place it's like my kids set up a barber shop and decided to cut hair not even use a scissors for the top of hair. And beard trim half trimmed and really uneven I shouldn't have bothered be careful if this place just go to V's barber read more

Disappointed in their service. It's a first come, first serve but apparently accept appts. They make you put your name on the list. Expect long waits, so getting there early is a must. The regular cutters are good, however, the new ones are inconsistent and botched my hair last time. So I came in early and expected to get my hair cut by the "regular" guys. 90 minutes later waiting while two guys walked in (not signed in) and got their haircut almost immediately (unknown to the walkins which was very frustrating). Just wasted time at this place and they lost my service. If I waited to get my haircut I would have been there at least 2 hours before they would have touched my hair. If it weren't for the regulars the place would get one star! Recommendation: add appts to your name list so walkins are aware of unexpected delays. Unfortunately, this place loses my business with the long unexpected wait times and new hair cutters being inconsistent. read more

My son just got a haircut from this place. The haircut is very good, but seriously the guy won't give him a student discount because he has no id with him. Well that is why you only get 4 stars. I came in a 2 hours before they closed, ended up waiting over a hour and a half to get cut. This place is busy all the time. I showed the guy what I wanted (a picture of what another guy from there did last time) and he messed me up. You could tell he was rushing to get done and finish the rest of the people in line. I'm really cautious to try someone new but it's either wait an extra half hour for the guy you want or take a gamble and hope the crappiest guy doesn't call you up. There's only 2 good guys in there that haven't messed me up. While you're waiting over a half hour, there's no wifi and chairs are pretty crammed. I hate giving bad reviews, however when someone doesn't listen to how you want your haircut it's deserving. I asked for a low fade and for an eighth of an inch off the top. I told him that I like my hair lengthy on top and don't want much cut at all.... The fade was fine however after seeing almost 2 Inches of hair cut off top I was upset. One of the best men's barbershop I've been to in AZ and CA. There will always be a wait because they provide excellent service and great cuts (right to the smallest detail) be patient and get there early! Luckily I was there when they opened. I didn't catch my barbers name but I told him what I wanted (it was a simple enough haircut). The barber rushed through the entire thing in about 8 minutes, and left MANY hairs sticking out of the side of my head. You'd have better luck at a great clips than with that barber. I noticed this as I was walking out and asked for the barber to fix it, and he zipped the clipper across my head once and didn't do anything else. There are still tens of clumps of hair sticking out of the sides that he missed with the clippers. Don't trust these guys. read more

I've been getting my haircut with the owner of gateway barber for about 8yrs now. I started with him while he was still in barber school. From that first haircut I knew I would follow him wherever he went. Aside from his great cuts, his professionalism and great attitude keeps me going to him. Was looking for a barbershop when I got home from College, and I went to others shops and I saw Gateway Barbershop. I gave Gateway a shot and I absolutely loved it. Setting up the appointment was super clear and easy to do. One of the easiest processes to set up an appointment. It's a step by step process and makes you acknowledge everything before you book the appointment. Once i got there, I walked right through the door and got greeted RIGHT AWAY. Everyone was laughing and talking about cars. It was a great atmosphere when I walked in. I am very picky about my hair and haircuts as well. So i was a bit nervous because I always get a drop low-skin fade , with top to be trimmed up. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and what I was looking for. And the barber gave me BETTER than I expected. I was very pleased and super happy with my end results with my haircut. My haircut was fresh and exactly what I wanted. This place has wonderful customer service.The barber definitely took his time and knew how to cut hair really good. All the barbers here has experience and you will not be displeased if you come try this barbershop out. I will definitely be coming back and start being a regular after my first visit. This place deserves every bit of the five stars! This is a new barbershop to the Southeast Valley but the Barbers themselves are not. I have been searching for that one barber shop that stood out and separated itself amongst the influx of barbershops popping up everywhere. While I have tried many of them in the East Valley over the past five months, I walked into Gateway Barbershop this morning. Gerardo the owner was there, as well as a part time Barber Gabriel. Gerardo made me feel right at home with a drink while I waited, as he himself had a few clients waiting. Gabriel is the Barber who gave me the best cut I've had. Only come here if you appreciate a good cut. This spot has some great barbers that will make you look freshh. I travel all over the country for work so I don't get to get see my home barber too often. I always try and find a good spot via yelp and this is for sure one of them. Make sure you have ample time for a cut because you might be sitting in the chair for up to 30 minutes or so. I don't mind the time at all cause they really treat you right and know what they're doing. They do great tapers and fades and can work a single blade that leave you lookin sharp. read more

I came across Gateway Barbershop here on Yelp and I am so glad I did. Panda hooked me up with one of the best fades I've ever had and also took care of my pops with exactly what he was in need of. Used to get my haircut done by Alex but I believe he no longer works at this barber shop. Anyhow, decided to take a chance and get my hair cut by the fat guy that cuts in the back left corner of the shop and ask for a taper fade with just a little off the top. This dude literally gives me a high and tight haircut like I just joined the marines and takes way too much off the top. Not only this but their prices have gone up $2, used to be $18 now it's $20.
