Been there several times. Everytime I have ordered an omelet b/c I don't do those very well at home. I should have ordered a cheese omelet. Practically no ham. A few little tiny squares. Also was never offered more coffee. We had been there several times hoping once was just a bad day. It wasn't. So disappointed service was awful don't believe the waitress we had even knew how to wait on tables took forever to get our food main dish arrives but we never got our salads had to ask for them no refills on drinks had to ask some other worker which they refilled my ice tea with hot tea and no ice asked for a glass of ice never came finally ask some one else for a glass of ice very frustrating wanted to enjoy a meal with my family and was stressed the whole time several of the meal were wrong when they finally did come after 30 min food was good remodeled restaurant looks very nice I would wait to try this place for a few months maybe they will get it together I will try again but after a few months. Hands down, one of the best places to eat breakfast in the area! This is a great little place along the highway to stop and eat at if you are on your way to the lake or coming home. I think they have the best pancakes I have ever eaten. The pancakes are fluffy and wonderful and they are always served with warm syrup. My favorite thing to get on the breakfast menu is the short stack (pictured) of pancakes with an egg and some bacon. It is really affordable and the perfect portion for a breakfast meal. My husband had the French toast this trip with an egg and some bacon and his French toast was really good (I snuck a couple bites) as well. We've had their omelettes as well and they are good too. This place is very much a local joint and they always have great service and they will never let your coffee cup go empty! I highly recommend this place for breakfast. I haven't been for lunch or dinner, but I drive by often during dinner time and they are packed. That says a lot about the quality of a little place off the highway. read more

I go this cafe as often as possible. They have the very best fried chicken around these parts. My mother especially loves the meat loaf and their iced tea is delicious. Awesome food and service!! Real food not "prepared" food. The chicken fried steak was pan fried like I do at home. The fried potatoes with onions were also good! Comfort food for sure. Home cooking, friendly hometown atmosphere, located halfway between Branson and Springfield on highway with easy access. You judge a business by how they handle their complaints and the Gateway Cafe failed miserably. I ordered meatloaf and was served a piece of meat that resembled dark brown leather with ketchup squirted on it. It was only approx 1/4" thick and appeared to be recooked in a skillet. It did not remotely resemble meatloaf and was tough to cut. I informed my server who said she would bring me another piece. The second piece was as awful as the first. I decided to go without meat since I had given them two chances and they failed both times. A member of management approached our table and asked what was wrong with the meatloaf and informed me that she has had no complaonts. When I told her it was tough to cut she said it she would tell the cook because the cook was her mother and it was her mother's recipe. She charged me full price for what I did not eat and offered no apology. I felt like I was up against a bully. My Wife and I went there for the all you can eat chicken special on Wednesday night and it was horrible. If you are absolutely positively Terrified of getting salmonella and still want to try and eat chicken then this is the place for you. It was way over cooked and tasted burnt like it was cooked in old grease. One of the sides was green beans. My wife loves green beans and she said they tasted burnt to her also. Not sure why they're getting good ratings. My guess would be it's their family writing the last review. I love southern, home-cooked meals, but this place is awful. It tastes like the grease hasn't been changed in forever. Maybe my standards are too high, but I don't like being sick for 2 days after eating a meal. My mama fries everything and I'm not sick after eating hers. The smoking is a definite turn off. They stick you in the back room if you don't smoke. I didn't care much for the older lady that seated us either. If you're working as a hostess in a cafe, you're not better than everyone else. I had the fried chicken. No seasoning obviously, and very little breading. The rolls were cold, the potatoes were chunky, and my salad was watered down. The prices are out of control. You expect to pay $10 at Applebees or a restaurant of that caliber, but not at a cafe in the middle of nowhere. The girls I was traveling with didn't like theirs either. Everyone agreed that they hadn't changed the grease since the catfish night. Our chicken and chicken fried steak tasted like fish.
