The Fairbanks office location is absolutely the worst location I've ever went into not only are they unwilling to discuss any sort of options with you they tell you what it is and that's it even if there's a mistake made with your address phone number they refuse to help you truly fix it the only way I've ever gotten done with anything that I've needed to do within. Loyal customers for 5 years and moved to a newly built house 3 doors down and they could not service the new location.......we went with starlink and are getting better speed and service at less than half the cost of gci. Glad it worked out the way things did but also discovered gci will NOT prorate your service to the date of cancellation even 1 day into the new month of service. We are so glad to be done with GCI and would not recommend them to ANYONE. Starlink all the way! read more

Hate this service! IT LAGGED SO BAD WHEN I WAS PLAYING LEAGUE OR ANY VIDEO GAME! Anyway, we were told we'd get prorated for the pay cycle we didn't use but when we moved to Kentucky we got an abnormal months bill. We called 3 times and all they said was that prorated is not a thing and that we'd either we have to pay for the entire month even tho we only used 5 days or go to the office 3,500 miles away and talk to the same representative... We called one more time and this time this lady said we only had to pay the for the 5 days. It was terrible dealing with this even though we verified months ahead of time that it would be prorated and we won't run into any problems once we move. So, even with us trying to be prepared and careful they still treated us terrible and barely stuck to their word. read more

I really don't understand these bad reviews. I've been using GCI for about 3 years now and I've never had an issue GCI couldn't fix. my internet is fast although the one down side is that It is expensive. GCIs customer service is also amazing and have helped me well. while there are other internet providers GCI has done a fairly decent job in delivering internet access. these 1 star reviews might have their merits but as someone who's been with them three years I haven't seen any major issues that would justify such a low rating. read more

I had my problems with gci in the past, but for a year and a half they really stepped up there game. some time a couple years ago the internet would stop at random times or it would go to like ten mbps but now it goes between 500 and 900 mbps. Worse internet ever. If you have to do online classes or anything that requires internet don't do it. I am in the army and sometimes I work long hours so I would have to pull over nighters to do online assignment last second. The internet cut out I tried calling technical support to get my internet issues resolved. Because they don't have a 24 hour tech support I ended up failing my final exam because I couldn't take it due to the fact I was out field training and thought to myself I can take the exam the next I get back which happen to be the last day. Be prepared to wait at minimum 20 minutes before being helped. Need to return something? They need to go through the "Treasury department" to see when your refund can be completed, which in my scenario was 2 weeks however it could have been longer. If it wasn't for lack of internet providers in Alaska I would have scrapped GCI in a heart beat. read more

Unfortunately, this is not the lower 48 with unlimited internet plans, unlimited data on your phone, and lightning fast download speeds . There is a reason Alaska only has a population of about 800,000 people; most of it is inaccessible wilderness. GCI is the only company whose cell phones work all over the state because they are the only ones who have put the investment in the infrastructure to make that happen. Yes, there are sometimes problems with the internet and with cell service, but I have found that that usually comes about due to bad weather (blame God not GCI) and the situation continues because no one can get out to fix anything until summer. If you want to live in Alaska, you are going to have to learn to deal with Alaska conditions. I have had GCI for seven years as a teacher here in Alaska. My phone works everywhere I go in the state, and when I go visit family in the lower 48, I switch to a national plan and it works just as well in Texas as it does in Alaska. I had GCI internet until I moved to a village with a different service provider three years ago. It worked. It took longer to download things but the internet I have now is no different. I would give no starts if I could! Complete garbage. Moved here and set up WiFi in June, and autopay. Apparently they switch their platform and canceled out our autopay in August. Our WiFi has been working for the last 7 months and just cut off yesterday. Called to ask why and they said because we weren't making payments. I told them it was on autopay and that's when they said they switched it over and people needed to call and set it up. I told them that I didn't get an email, call, or notification in the mail. I wasn't going to pay the 1k+ that they let rack up on my account. The rude account lady flat out old me wasn't her problem and it's my fault my payments weren't made. F*** you GCI. read more

BEWARE. Not only is this the worst internet service on the planet, but they will make up charges and send you to collections when you end your service. My family is military and we left Alaska in October. We went into the GCI store in October to return our equipment and end our service where we paid our last bill/fees for ending our service (we had our bill set to autopay so we always paid on time while GCI was our provider). We made sure to ask that we were good to go and would not owe any other charges since we would be changing states/addresses. We were told we were good to go. Two days ago my husband received a call from someone claiming to be from GCI asking for personal information like his social, military ID number, etc. We were completely caught off guard by this so he called GCI himself just to find out we had over $180 in charges and that they had already sent us to collections for not paying. We never received a bill, phone call, email, ANY contact before they sent us to collections. They also did not provide any explanation for what these charges were for when asked. I would strongly encourage everyone to proceed cautiously, especially military families, when planning on starting or ending their service with this provider. read more

Cell phone service is very spotty, especially indoors. Customer service is non-existent! Good luck getting any assistance, and if you do expect it to not be done correctly. I have been dealing with getting my login set up for MONTHS now! I have waited hours on the phone, several different times, just to get my login information (which still isn't fixed). They tell me they will send me an email, which never gets sent or never works. They're website is very poor and never seams to work. In order to pay my bills I have to either wait on the phone for an hour or go to the store and wait in line. DO NOT recommend. I am switching providers. read more

Jim T. Fairbanks, AK AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I would rather pay more elsewhere than continue paying a business that does not like their customers. Have had internet and cable service with them for more than 7 years. (currently pay $92.90/month for cable and $64.99/month for internet - supposedly, 72.0 Mbps). The costs have gone up periodically throughout the years. Internet goes out randomly but the service techs are professional and do good work. As far as the customer service in other parts of the company - well they would get no stars. In fact the strategic direction they are going as a company is away from customer service. Example - I had automatic payments set up for more than 7 years but GCi changed their business platform and caused all auto payments to stop. I called to reset them, was told the wait time is less than 20 min but waited more than 30 min, hung up and called back. After the operator listened to my problem she sent me to the same line where I waited another 24 min before hanging up. I created a profile online and tried to set up auto pay. It paid my cable bill twice and did not pay my cable bill. I just called back and after holding for 26 minutes actually got a 'customer service agent' (that is the term GCI uses for them - I wouldn't). After a few minutes of talking with him he finally told me he can't do anything about setting up the auto pay over the phone and that I would have to set it up online (which didn't work the first time). So now as I search for a new service provider I will be paying them each month by check. A waste of my time and hopefully costs them more than the $2.95 in processing time that they want people to pay for calling their office and waiting more than 20 min to make a payment. read more

Operation of services runs okay.. get between 3 and 4 stars from me, but the customer service knocks them down quite a bit. On hold for extremely long times, being transferred from one place to another. I go in person, long wait with only 2 or 3 reps working at any time and usually will watch one leave even though the line is long. I'm curious if they compete with the DMV. read more

i know there are not a lot or ANY choices for folks so just a heads up - everyone in customer service that i dealt with was reading the manual trying to figure out how to help me. i had a contract with GCI over the summer, wanted to keep my AT&T number, and that was a huge mistake. it took two weeks and many person-hours to have my number "ported over" from GCI back to ATT. i terminated my service with GCI and they kept billing me until december. i am owed a refund, and of course have not seen it. so, good luck, keep all your records, and keep calling back until you get someone who can really help you. rookie operation! read more

GCI claims that there top internet download rate is 15mb/sec. On fort wainwright you are lucky to get 4MB/sec with that package. Total rip off and they continue to tell new soldiers on base that they will get 15 mb/sec download rate. Go to there website and do an internet speed test yourself. I bet it isn't up to par if you live on base. You are getting ripped off. The problem is that no body wants to fix this issue...I have complained for over a year. I get discounts all the time, but so what...I want what I pay for and they false advertise. If you have gci and you live on base do a speed test at there website and then call in and complain. If you ask me they are a class action law suit waiting to happen. read more

GCI on FORT WAINWRIGHT total rip off.... theirs speed suck, we have SHARING network, so need to change passwords occasionally. Last month and up with 180$ bill, and they told me nothing they can do and change password. Sometimes you HAVE no connections and slow like molasses in winter time. I HAVE SUPPOSEDLY GOOD ONE FOR 130$ A MO. Tried to go with ACS but they at capacity, need to check later with them again. Cable i am paying 32$ and i have exactly 7 channels...... can not afford after internet... It's should be unlimited! Price and service unfair! read more

I had the unfortunate displeasure of needing GCI for my cable and internet needs for the last 3 years. They have not failed to disappoint me on a regular basis. When it comes to dropped internet connection, slow internet connection, malfunctioning DVRs, choppy cable "reception", weekly solicited phone calls, outrages prices, no nothing tech support, and just blatant poor customer service...they are number one in Alaska! I truly wish Comcast could work their way up here and maybe somebody can offer some REAL cable and internet. GCI had just started offering On-Demand in some areas less than 2 years ago. Really? On-Demand has been around for nearly a decade now. What the hell was taking so damn long? Being in Alaska is no longer a valid excuse for poor product and customer service, it's 2012!!! Have been having problems with a Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone that I purchased a contract for in Dec. of 2015. The Sales person told us this phone had the new battery system, so was a step up from my Samsung S5. Trusting I went with this new phone package. Well the Battery cannot be taken out of this new phone, and as told today, they have now found out that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Batteries have a very short life due to the amount of processes. So I was told today that I can pay an Additional $120.00 to upgrade up to a S7 or have to keep fighting with No battery life. I have been in 3 times since my Date of original contract day in Dec. of 2015to complain about the battery life. Each time they have have me shut down all apps and put the phone on power save. I cannot go 2 hours on a charge and basically I just text and receive phone calls. They are not going to stand behind the product they sold me saying " it was Samsung's problem" . Be very careful if considering a Contract, as it seems to be one Way! Very poor Business practice. read more
