Oldenburg is a very beautiful city, especially the central area, which contains many old buildings housing new shops. Most retail stores in Germany observe Sunday closing. The Sunday I visited was no exception, as almost all shops were closed. Except for the sprawling Gelateria Centrale, a massive restaurant (relative to other shops in the area), and I was in the mood for ice cream ! As with other German "eiscafes" this ice cream shop had a beautiful menu featuring all of its offerings in highly detailed color photos. Prices ranged from about 7.30 Euros down to kids sundaes for 3.70 Euros. Most sundaes are about 4.50 Euros. The Euro was worth about $1.09 at the time of my visit. The sundaes are truly works of art, and yes, the ice cream was of the highest quality. I noticed that they also sold cold sandwiches for 3.50 Euros for folks not hankering for ice cream. There is no place like this in San Diego. I'm not sure one would survive, anyway. The Europeans like to linger over their meal and savor their coffee to the last drop. By contrast, Americans seem to be in more of a hurry. You don't want to rush a massive ice cream sundae, do you? Anyway, I recommend this place to anyone within driving distance of Oldenburg. read more

The few men inside where with their women. I felt a little bit unfitting. Besides that I wanted to work a little bit. But that felt unfitting too. The small room was really full and you couldn't flee into a small corner. Besides that negative points it was really good. Auch wenn der Doc es nicht gern sieht, oftmals komme ich hier einfach nicht vorbei, auch kein Wunder bei dem Angebot nicht nur an Eis. Zur Lage kann ich nur sagen: Zum Marktplatz mit Blick auf Lamberti ist es sehr schön, die Reihe Tische gegenüber von Galeria und Wohltat finde ich dagegen unschön und wenig gemütlich. Sehr gutes Eis, und im Sommer unschlagbar von der Lage her. Direkt am Markt, neben diversen anderen Lokalen, oft waren wir schon im Bar Celona essen und dann hier den Espresso trinken. Leider hat im letzten Jahr auch hier die Unsitte zugeschlagen, Eis durch Sahne zu ersetzen, aber hier hält es sich noch in Grenzen, ich hoffe es wird nicht schlimmer. read more

This is the place…read more I have never seen ice cream sundaes and other exotic ice cream concoctions better displayed than in the photos comprising the rather extensive Venezia menu. Fabulous photos. I ordered one which included vanilla ice cream, hot cherries in sauce, and whipped cream for 5 Euros. It was just like the photo and was outstanding. My wife ordered a similar sundae with hot raspberry sauce, and I was given a taste. Wow. I would have added another star, but the ice cream itself was of supermarket quality. That is to say, good but not premium. That was a little disappointing, but I'm a fan.
