The service was pretty good considering there was only one staff member on and she was polite and fast. Nice setting looking out on the water for anyone who loves ice cream!

Creamy in texture. Pretty good but not exceptional. The small size is so big that it's probably equivalent to two small scoops. I had to throw away half of the ice cream at the end.

Although B&R is just across the road - and before Bella Rosa opened we would go to B&R's for an ice cream in the evenings in Byron Bay - but seriously that franchised dumbed-down ice cream joint cannot compete with the beautiful made-on-the-premises masterpieces opposite at Bella Rosa. You've got way more choice too at Bella Rosa. They seem to have daily menu changes to their delicious offerings. So if you want the full creamy dairy hit- you can go the gelato. Want the dairy free option? Go the sorbets. Either way you will not be disappointed. We rocked up to the counter and stood there drooling at the frozen treats on display, trying to decide. YYYYYYummo! So many gorgeous flavours to choose from. We went for the sorbet - trying not to overdo the dairy these days. In the sorbet line we could choose form dark chocolate, blood orange, raspberry, lychee, lime, passion fruit and yes, good ol' traditional Italian style lemon. Can't decide? They kindly offer tasting samples to help you choose? Served in either crispy sugar cones or cups. We went for the cups. Last night i had 2 flavours in a cup- raspberry and passionfruit. Fresh, perfectly tart, so smooth and icy sweet. My man had 2 flavours too - chocolate and raspberry - he enjoyed so much that he had this combo two nights in a row. My second night I had 2 flavours - dark chocolate and lychee. Whoah!! Amazingly good. What a beautiful taste combo. I felt like I had discovered a brand new land. That dark chocolate sorbet is definitely the bomb! So nice to wander around Byron Bay in the cool of the evening enjoying a gelato (or in our case - a sorbet cup). Glad we made it in time cos it closed 9pm on Wednesday nights. If you like great tasting gelato and sorbets masterpieces made with love and passion I think you'll appreciate what Bella Rosa offers. Five stars.

That being said, if you're there, you'll at least find this gelato place full of inventive flavors, of which I ate several. They allowed me to sample the fresh mint in advance, and it is distinct from most other mints but was nonetheless tasty. I was somewhat less enamored with their matcha flavor, which had quite a few nuts and not enough of the actual matcha for my liking, and some kind of fig (I think?) based thing that was quite appealing. It's worth spreading yourself around a bit I think. The place is outside on the beach side of a large shopping mall, but is open beyond the mall's limited hours.

Zanette's is famous for its beer gelato. We tried it (it's non-dairy) and omg, it tasted exactly like beer! But in a sweet, nice way. They have a VB flavour and a Corona flavour and both flavours are spot on. But mango gelato holds the key to my heart, so I ended up ordering that along with a scoop of the lychee. They were both really great. Also sampled the passionfruit and watermelon -- both yum although I preferred the watermelon. I believe they also had a non-dairy strawberry and lemon as well, so plenty of choices if you're vegan or lactose-intolerant. I think probably the lychee was the best. Service was SUPER friendly -- I think these guys really enjoy their jobs, and it seems like a family-run affair. Definitely seek this place out if you're in Surfers!
