This is a traditional Jewellers in every sense of the word, the door has a buzzer and you can do most of your browsing from the street. I would estimate that they have sold thousands of engagement rings over the years. This is the type of shop that an old romantic would go to get his nearest an engagement ring. I am purely basing this on how traditional the shop is, as I suppose it would have a little bit more meaning than getting a ring from a high street jeweller. McNeillys is all in all an excellent jewellers with friendly staff, I would say that the deal in big mainly deal in the big one off purchases but I as yet, fingers crossed one day, have not purchased from McNeillys.

Wow the jewels are beautiful and very expensive. Usually I expect really expensive small shops to be empty but this was heaving the day I went in for a look for my coveted wedding jewelry. One glance and I knew I was in to deep in the money swamp and needed to get out. There was a necklace exactly like the style I'm looking for but unfortunately it was in excess of £600.00 - where's that rich boyfriend when you need him? On the way out, with my hands firmly clamped to my credit card, I noticed in the first cabinet by the door a lovely little collection of necklaces and bracelets for little girls - not cheap but reasonably priced and cute as a button - if I ever have a reason to buy for an under ten year old little lady I will be back here with bells on. The Lavender Box combines beautiful jewellery (the likes of Pom, Coeur de Lion, Pilgrim), with stunning gifts (I spotted the cutest wooden Noah's Ark, and the animals all had their own places), and exquisite clothing / shoes. It truly has it all. The front section of the shop is home to the gifts, filled with fancy knick-knacks such as candles, ornaments, figurines, stationery etc., as well as the jewellery. Cabinet after cabinet bursting with the most dazzling jewellery (there was 20% off some items the day we were in, but I managed to behave myself). The back section of the shop is home to a beautiful range of very unique clothes. Not really my style, but very classy and elegant, with a bit of a retro feel to them. Alongside these lie a good range of Irregular Choice shoes, which, as most of you will know, are a gorgeously kitsch, and somewhat pricey shoe label (and to die for). Oooooh shoe lust... The owner / sales assistant was very friendly, though her attention was diverted to a customer who was trying on a pair of Irregular Choice boots, and couldn't make up her mind which colour to choose. We designed a ring to go with my wedding band and engagement ring: rose gold band and alternating diamonds and emeralds around. We waited a couple months but it arrived in SF today and we could not be happier! It fits perfectly, it's incredibly well made and arrived THE day they said it would. Pretty incredible considering it was made from scratch and was delivered across the globe. It took a couple visits to get the idea set in stone and the ring ordered. However, everyone who helped us was patient, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. All in all, next time we are in Buncrana we WILL be back and we would highly recommend Crossan's to anyone and everyone. I've bought some amazing pieces of jewellery from here, including a few gorgeous amethyst and silver rings, a few really funky pairs of earrings and my favourite bracelet which was silver with various healing stones set in (I lost it a while ago and have pined ever since for it! I must take a run up to Coleraine now I think about it ...*smile*) If you are ever up these parts and in to spirituality, new age, or simply a relaxed and charming peaceful shop, then make sure you don't miss solstice. Previous places we had looked had been pushy and totally over whelmed me with loads of different rings. Ethna was very kind, informative and understanding. Recently we went back to pick a wedding ring and there was a very funny moment when I was down on my hands and knees looking at the bottom shelf. The owner walked past the counter and started apologising. We later found out that he thought from my poise that I was proposing! Mom and i both love semi precious, and precious gemstomes, so it was easy to spend time there. They shared with us that all jewelry there is made inhouse. They are not re-sellers. They buy the materials and make the jewelry. The prices there are a little higher, but not out of this world. But quality does come with a gentle premium.
