On Jan 13, 2023 I purchased a 2022 Coachmen RV from General. What a horrible experience it was. First, I responded to an as for a 2022 unit at $29k, checked it out and decided to work on an offer. Here it was: base price - $29,900 - then they added $2999 for transportation or something, then another $2499 for unit prep, then $599 for dealer processing fee, plus tax title stuff. That's pure BS and bait and switch if I ever saw it. I reduced that to $2000, but they were not honest - AT ALL. $6000+ additional fees before tax etc. but I bought it for $31,999. My bad but it only got worse. During walkthru there were two major issues that needed to be fixed. Remember the $2499 they tried to charge for dealer prep? We'll they didn't find these two glaring things. Two months later, it was still not fixed. During that time I endlessly called, texted (chat), emailed customer service, etc. and could not get anyone to tell me the status of the unit. They kept calling and trying to say we're ready to deliver it, only to find repairs we're forgotten. Contacted service, sales, customer service and none would return calls follow up, or help me out. Finally, after 2 months, I contacted an attorney, and that call from him woke them up a little. But only a little. It gets worse. So I did another walkthrough, and two items are finally fixed. Arranged a delivery date and specific time. I don't live where it was to be delivered, so time of day was important. Delivery was supposed to include setup, leveling, proper location, cause I don't have a truck to do these things. Delivery person - some local yokel - arrives 2 hours early and so I'm not there to work with him. He gets impatient and dumps it crooked in our front yard. So much for locating and leveling. Not done yet. So that was past, and I noticed the unit was missing parts to sewer line. Called them, never heard back. Overall integrity is very low. Sell you high, pocket the dough, and run. Post sale service is nonexistent. They push overpriced maintenance contracts with sob stories of financial ruin. Go find an honest dealer. Get them to name a price and stick with it. You don't need to pay ridiculous unadvertised fees. Just say no and then walk away if they do. Consider post sales service. This place is 'largest family owned rv dealer.' Family is not always good, and this company proves it. read more

Ashland, VA Overall, I had an OK first experience purchasing my travel trailer from General RV. The salesman was fine, and the staff, very knowledgeable, friendly, professional. The grounds, building, and facilities are very clean. I feel my experience may be unique and I'm not going to trash talk the place, but my rating is based on my experience and displeasure with a couple major issues... If you plan on financing, or paying cash, and have your own weight distribution hitch, I think you'll have a good experience. 2 things that will keep me from purchasing there again. 1. I was not able to pay for my travel trailer using my credit card. I was told General RV has a policy that any costs over $5000 must be paid using financing or cash. Iwas told that when paying with a credit card, the extra 1.5% fee charged by the credit card company is an issue above $5k. I offered to pay the fee, but was ultimately denied. This is their policy and they weren't going to change it for me. I'm not sure if there is some kind of kick back or commission on the financing side that may have been in consideration, but my final answer was "Cash or Financing". I hope it's only a questionable business practice and that they weren't intentionally taking advantage of me, for their own gain. 2. I was not able to drive my own travel trailer home. I was told that unless I purchased a weight distribution hitch and installed it, the General manager would not allow me to leave with the TT. My vehicle manual stated that a WDH is not recommended, and even after showing this, I was denied. I can only assume or speculate that there was concern that the dry weight of the trailer maxed out my GCWR, especially after adding the tongue weight, something I learned about after my purchase unfortunately, and forcing me to trade in my current vehicle for a new one. The salesman/staff/GM never mentioned it, and shame on me for not doing my research. This does put a spotlight on a possible ethical concern. Either they knew it was a problem, and forced the WDH issue, or they didn't and the sales staff need more training. I hope it's the latter. The salesman I worked with towed with the same truck I was towing with, but he was also pitching the WDH when the manufacturer was not recommending... so maybe a mix of both deceit and lack of knowledge. They did deliver the travel trailer at no additional cost to me, so a silver lining I suppose. Again, overall, I had an OK experience, but these issues I experienced will keep me from making another purchase with them. read more

General RV Service Department is the most incredibly ineffective one could imagine. Needed marker lights replaced under warranty on my 22/23 Winnebago Solis. Was given a 'special appointment' for 9 am - but was told it is a 'waiting appointment' which means you must be prepared to sit from 9 am until 5 pm to have the Winnebago Solis Van in the que for service diagnosis of the issue. The issue is - look at the 5 marker/running lights see they have water/condensation in them - check my VIN # and see Winnebago has already approved replacement. Then order the parts. Maybe 1 hour?? Not waiting up to 8 hours. AND then I would have to go back and do this again to have them actually replaced. How does a large RV dealer run a service department this way? It is absolutely ridiculous - oh yeah and since I bought my van at General RV this is considered 'special treatment.' Unless you are desperate this is NOT the place to service your RV. read more

Sales manager in clarkston offered us a deal, asked for my license and credit card. We signed documents on the salesperson's tablet and discussed what day and time we were picking up the camper. We even received email confirmation from another sales manager about our delivery date. 20 minutes after making the deal the sales manager came over and pulled it. read more

Our experience with the General RV Center in Ashland, VA has been terrific. After traveling down from Maine to look at 2 specific RV models, we found ourself in great hands with sales professional, Doc Holiday. As he proceeded to show us the models, he asked wonderful probing questions about how we want to use it and what features were most important to us. His years of experience definitely showed as he offered viewings of a few other different RVs, one of which was PERFECT for us! We didn't even know the features, like 2 bathrooms, existed on our selected Fleetwood Flair RV. After a pleasant test drive around town, we sealed the deal. Their finance manager, Ron Vraux, was terrific! His attention to detail and experience shined, AND it turned out that my husband and he grew up in the same town. What a wonderful coincidence. Since the RV needed to have a view minor repairs from the transport, we were not able to drive it home that day. Then...the coronavirus shut everything down. Doc and Ron were very good about coming up with a plan once delivery was possible. In the end, General RV arranged for the RV to be delivered to Maine with a FaceTime run-through session booked with Doc. General RV jumped through the COVID-19 hoops...and DELIVERED! When we bought our rv from General we were treated like family. We loved our salesman and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm very sorry to say that things are different now that we need service. Our automatic steps didn't work so we had them repaired in the Fall. Since then we've taken one trip, for less than a week, and the steps are not working again. My husband calls but it takes forever (over a month) for him to get a return call. He finally heard from them but they cannot give us an appointment until May. Are we supposed to travel without steps???? This is unacceptable. We are very disappointed and dissatisfied. This isn't our first service issue. Why can't they stand by their work and fix this problem in a timely manner????? Needless to say but, we are looking elsewhere for help as we have a trip scheduled in April. read more

General RV does not even deserve one star. The sales process was smooth but we were told that we could not take our travel trailer for two weeks due to backlog in the service department. When we arrived two weeks later for our scheduled pickup, the travel trailer was 1) not cleaned inside or out 2) the items that were noted to be fixed were STILL not fixed and 3) the state inspection was not completed. FIVE HOURS later we were finally able to leave, inspection sticker in hand and a "white glove cleaned" sticker on the trailer. When we got home, we discovered that the trailer had NOT been cleaned at all and the items were not fixed. We tried calling General RV, both the service department and the operations without getting a response for two weeks. It was not until we reached out to corporate (who also lacks the ability to pick up a phone or return calls) and had them reach out to the Ashland office to return our calls. Our issues have still not been resolved. Their lack of customer care is a true reflection of the company as a whole. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with General RV. read more

My wife and I met with Ken Wilson today in their Ashland, VA location. Prior to arriving, we were sure to let Ken know we were just beginning our journey. I am in sales myself and don't like to have my time wasted, so I wanted to be sure to respect his time. Ken patiently drove us around the lot educating us thoroughly and answering all of our questions. I couldn't have asked for a better experience than Ken provided. He asked great questions to get a sense of where our head was yet and most importantly challenged us on any preconceptions we may have had. NEGATIVE STAR: I drove 90 miles to Ashland, VA to get my awning fixed at RV Centers of Virginia. I'm going on a trip and needed the work done quickly and they were available. This was my first time here. Cindy greeted me at 8:15 (my appointment time ) they took my baby back and I knew it wasn't gonna be a quick fix - I was prepared to stay (had laptop - could work) work all done to my satisfaction I left. So happy all went great!!! I stopped to get propane - after I paid the nice lady - the engine would not start - not even with the battery boost. I immediately called GENERAL RV (where I bought my coach, they were about 3 miles away) I told the young lady I was "broke down" and to please not put me through to voice mail. She said okay and transferred me to the Service Dept. and after several rings, it went to voice mail. Now I've called before from home sitting on my couch making a service appointment- and voice mail is okay. But when you tell the phone person - I'm broke down and please don't put me through to voice mail - she says okay - If I we're her I would have gotten UP out of my seat and grabbed a PERSON- because a customer is in need of help. Nope - went to voice mail. I hung up. I called RV Center of VA, (remembrance it's not like I'm a long time valued customer) Cindy answered the phone, got Rusty, Rusty got in his truck - came and jumped me, I followed him back to the shop where tech Mark immediately put a new battery in for me. THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! . I'm so impressed with this level of service. General RV - Bigger is not always better. read more

I would love to give General Rv more stars if I could do it just based our salesperson Michael. He went above and beyond for us. The rest of this was a horrible experience in fact it is still an ongoing horrible experience. We purchased a 2021 Prime Time Crusader fifth wheel. We absolutely fell in love with it. It needed some minor repairs that we were told would be done before we picked it up. They were not done. The molding wasn't replaced that was missing. The tv that disappears into the console is not placed correctly and lopsided. Then on the 3rd day of ownership the center lights wouldn't come on. When my husband called today, he was told it would be at least a month before they could get us in. They have had our Ram 3500 since last Friday installing the 5th wheel hitch. Our first truck they installed the hitch knowing we couldn't tow our camper with that truck. They didn't bother to tell us until 5pm at night. The man Charles who we dealt with from I'm guessing service, was rude, condescending and acting like he was doing us a favor after his staff ruined our truck. One would think you would get treated better when spending so much money. I guess once you sign on the dotted line you are forgotten about!! I'm so disappointed in this experience. UPDATE: as of writing my original review: today 8/6/2021-three days later. We finally got our Dodge Dually back. Shocking the hitch was installed but not greased. Nothing ceases to amaze me. As of this afternoon my husband came home to our 5th wheel to find that the water heater had a slow leak. Well that slow leak cause the whole under- carriage to break. Thankfully, he was able to get a hold of our wonderful salesman Michael. Hopefully, he can help. Not even in our 5th wheel a week and it has been one issue after another. I feel like I just threw away 60k and the jokes on us because General RV could careless. Especially their upper management !!! If my place of employment had this kind of poor review, my boss (owner) would be contacting the person to find out how to correct the situation. Not General RV. read more

We purchased our Grand Design Reflection 297RSTS at the Richmond General RV in January 2021. After waiting out some of the madness of COVID-19 we wanted to think we were getting a better deal than buying the TT sight unseen, then wait for it to show up. So we waited until off-season. Should probably have negotiated more on the deal but thought maybe it will pay off in service. WRONG assumption! Our TT came without a front bedroom air conditioner. Don't know why. At the walk-thru was told the rig was prewired for the AC unit. During the purchase process we were instructed to wear a VIP name tags with our names on them. We were treated well at that time. Found out on my return visits that I am no longer a VIP. They got my money. On our first trip out we found that our water heater drain plug was leaking. The threaded drain pipe of the WH was bent, (see attached photo) and the plastic cap was packed with pipe dope. The unit was winterized at the time of the walk-through so we missed the slow leak. I stopped in General RV one day and spoke to the parts guy about my options for the front BR AC unit. I think his name was Brian. He was a very courteous, and knowledgeable person. Then he then sent me to Chelli (Shelly) to talk about install costs and scheduling. I found this young lady to be less than helpful, smug and rude. It seemed she didn't want to be bothered. She said she couldn't give me an estimate, I would have to wait 3 months for an appointment for a tech (or techs) to assess the job at $160/hour and then give me a price for the work. Said they would have to see what kind of wiring was needed, etc. Don't they know this already?!? I have never seen a business run this way! We just got back from a Grand Design Rally in Myrtle Beach, SC. At the Rally, lots of Grand Design mobile techs were on hand to work on factory recalls and high priority tasks. The local Campers Inn also provided several mobile techs to tackle non-emergency RV issues. Even though we didn't buy our TT from this dealership the CI tech corrected several issues at no cost to us. He cleaned a air blockage in the gas water heater and confirmed my solution to the slow water leak. He adjusted a miss-aligned entry door and a sagging interior cabinet door. Last, he looked at a problem with the slam latches and door on our outdoor kitchen. After he submitted lots of pictures, Campers Inn worked with Grand Design to determine a replacement door for the unit was needed and that they will order and install for free. Considering that General RV will charge $200 just to bring the TT into the shop, we will instead put that money towards fuel to take our trailer to Campers Inn in Myrtle Beach and have them replace the outdoor kitchen door. While there we will also have them install the air conditioner and a solar array while we are on the campground site at the beach. Some folks at General RV may not appreciate us, but we know who does. read more

This review is based on service and not sales. We purchased an Avenger 27DBS last month. We decided we wanted to remove the TV from the wall and install an adjustable wall mount vs. the fixed one that came with it. I called the service department to ask them how the TV was mounted and if they could help us with this. Shelly said there was no way for them to do this without having the camper there, as every single camper is different; she was short and quite rude with me and could have cared less about helping me or trying to find a resolution. I asked if there was anyone else that I could speak with to just try and get an idea and she said no. So, I called General RV in Michigan and they immediately helped me by having a technician call me and walk me through it. Told me about the four different wall mounts that are used and how to remove the TV. What a huge difference between the Michigan location and Richmond. There was no hesitation in their response and immediately wanted to have a resolution to my question even after knowing that we did not purchase from that location. He also walked me through how to fix the faucet that isleaking. See below. This experience will have me not recommend the Richmond location. If this is how they treat a customer that just purchased a camper and had a question, I cannot imagine how we will be treated if we need additional service in the future. Incredibly sad. And to note, while doing the walkthrough we noticed that there was quite a bit of antifreeze in the sink and the gentleman told me that it was just left over from their winterizing, but we have now realized the faucet has a constant (slow) leak. I was afraid to even ask Shelly how we can resolve this issue but I was too flabbergasted by her lack of help that I didn't even try. P.S. While our salesperson was wonderful, very friendly and personable, their process of negotiating was just like buying a car. It would be nice if they had a set sales price instead of all the going to the manager to see if the deal would work. Nonetheless, I was happy in the end with our purchase and the price. The team at General RV in Richmond is amazing! I purchased a new RV in December 2022 that had a major maintenance issue that the team there worked on for months. Richard was great and made sure I stayed informed through the repairs process. The team there went out of their way to take a really bad situation and make it right. I traded in and purchased a second camper from them this summer, a new R-POD 190, that I absolutely love! Hillary and Doug were fantastic to work with. They made sure I was happy and even checked in with me after my purchase. read more

We bought a 2019 Coachmen Mirada from them a few months back. We got a decent deal on our trade-in and on the RV itself. There was a bit of pressure and going back and forth on the negotiating, but I left feeling ok with the deal. We scheduled a time to take possession on a Saturday morning. We spent about 1-2 hours waiting for their crew to finish prepping it. We had scheduled this time over a week in advance, so the last minute cleaning was a bit annoying. However, they do provide drinks and snacks while waiting and it provided me with time to visit the Harley dealership across the street. Never owning a Motorhome before, there was a lot to learn from the walk around, but I was not filled with the warm and fuzzies from the walk-around. I asked about a lug wrench and where a spare tire might be found and the person showing us all the features couldn't find one. So he asked a maintenance person about it. Turns out they don't come with one (and apparently many Class 'A's don't). Not a big deal, but isn't this something that the person assigned to showing features should know? There were a few other questions that stumped the man, but I found answers later through my own research. Before we left in the RV we had 2 issues that we noticed that we wanted to get fixed before we took possession. One was fixed while the other was not. The issue that wasn't fixed was the gasket seal around the bottom part of the entrance door frame (that fits between the outer door frame and body of the RV). About a foot long section was drooping out from the frame. We asked that it be fixed. After about 15 minutes, we were told it was fixed and we went on our way. After driving it 1-2 hours to the storage lot, we found that it was not fixed. In fact it had been cut off flush with the door frame. After bouncing down the road, the ends of where it had been cut worked itself out from the frame. So now there are 2 ends hanging under the door frame. This makes me wary of any warranty work that might be needed in the future. read more

After a couple of less than great experiences with a couple of salesmen at General RV in Ashland I got a chance to work with Paul (I don't remember his last name). He was very professional and helpful. It took a bit of back and forth but we eventually came to terms on a new Super C Motorhome. During the orientation process when we picked up the RV everyone involved was very pleasant and accommodating. I was very impressed with one of the managers who listened to my concerns about the very poor reviews the service department had received- he listened, acknowledged that there had been problems and said that they had new leadership in the service department- time will tell if that helps but his willingness to acknowledge that there had been issues impressed me. The best part of our experience came in the weeks after we took possession of the RV. I texted Paul several times with questions and he sent out of his way to help resolve the issues we had ( we just didn't listen well enough during the orientation and Paul was quite patient and helpful in walking us through some things we probably should have known). The only downside of our experience was that one of the window shades was broken when we picked the RV up. We were told one was on order- it's been five weeks since we took delivery of the RV and still have not received the window shade. If you are looking for an RV I highly recommend General RV and request to work with Paul- you'll be quite happy that you did. read more

What a great experience I had at General Rv in Ashland Va! Hayden our salesperson was awesome, and patient (I 'm not the easy person to deal with). I felt like the deal was good and the service so far has been excellent. I think one of the few things they are guilty of, is lack of communication while you're sitting and waiting for things to be done. My feeling is that there so large that sometimes the right hand in communicating to the left hand. But I guess that's what you have to deal with far price and selection. We visited General RV i. n Ashland VA last weekend and what a terrible experience it was. We were assigned to Paul as our sales person. One of the first things he asked was if we had any credit problems. We have zero credit problems so it is not an issue but to have that be the first thing asked was offputting. This was only followed by him challenging my knowledge of the tow capacity of my vehicle. I have been doing a lot of research so I do understand that this is important and had my numbers right despite him telling me that I was wrong. Again off putting. We gave him some of our desirables in an RV and he picked out a few models to show us. When we got to the first one, we were curious about the price. He said the he did not know but when we were done looking at the lot, he could look the price up on the computer. This was a head scratcher because to me, the fundamental piece of information in sales is how much am I going to have to pay. This was all eclipsed a short while later when he indicated that he got a text message from his manager that sales people were needed back in the showroom for other clients. I should have mentioned this earlier but we were there with our friends. They are looking at upgrading their TT to a 5th wheel as soon as possible and we are in the early stages of our search. I say this because he had two potential sales in his hand right then and there but would be willing to toss that aside for new people who just walked through the door? What kind of sales technique is this. After all of this was done, I had a very sour taste in my mouth for General because they made me feel like I was less important than a new customer walking through the door. After this experience, I sent a lengthy message through General RVs website asking for this to make it up to their GM explaining my concerns as this is the only way for a company to improve. That was on Monday, it is now friday and I still haven't heard back from them. At this point, I have no desire to work with General RV. It would take a lot for me to consider using them for an RV purchase if this is the way they treat their customers. Consequently next door is a Camping World lot and I didn't want to go there due to complaints I have heard about Camping World but figured I would go just to look and do more research. What is crazy is that my sales experience there was the polar opposite as the sales person was very knowledgeable not only about the specs on each trailer (and this was with us not having him cherry pick the RVs but rather just wandering the lot looking at different units, but also had a complete price sheet with him and could answer any pricing questions we had. I am not sold on Camping World yet due to the complaints I have heard, but can guarantee that I would go there over General RV based on this experience alone. However, the good news is that we have a few other locally owned dealerships which get amazing reviews that we will be looking at this weekend. In short, the feeling I got was that I was only important to General RV if I was ready to purchase right then and there. This is not how you treat customers when they are looking at a $30K+ purchase. I would stay clear of General and look elsewhere. This was the review I posted on Google. It received a reply asking that I send to the customer service email for them to review. However I had already done that and this is now 2 weeks past and I still haven't heard from them. I was excited about having them in my back yard but this experience has left me looking outside of the area for an RV. read more

If you want to purchase here I recommend get the best price you can and then pretend it's an "as is no warranty" purchase. Make sure all repairs needed are complete before you sign the paperwork. No matter what is promised either verbal or written, you won't hear from them ever again. read more

Criminals. RV dealers all have a bad rep when it comes to warranty repairs but General RV in Ashland, VA have made it a fine art of criminality. Awning broke, they said it should be in by the time it takes to get an appointment, in three months. Appt comes, no awning. Three more times they lied to me and said it wasn't in. I checked with Thor, they said General RV had received it around November 29th, about a month after RV was purchased. I've filed a complaint with the Virginia Attorney General. Virginia has a good Lemon Law so be prepared to use it if you buy from General RV, a RICO if there ever was one. Oh, now Thor isn't returning my calls By another brand. read more

Took travel trailer in to General RV in Ashland January of 2023 for an electrical issue (12v accessories weren't working when plugged into shore power only 120v stuff). Told them I thought my converter was bad. Picked up a few weeks later, was told there was a "loose connection" and the converter was fine. Charged 1 hour labor to fix wire that wasn't connected to converter ($185). Electrical issue was still present after their "fix", took TT back to them...they literally didn't believe that I still had issues. Made a technician go inside TT with me, took the electrical panel off and guess what?! The converter was fried the whole time. "Huh, someone missed that!". Was then charged another $425 in labor, not including the new converter, to fix it. They refused to credit me back an hour in labor from them not fixing it the first time, even though their tech admitted someone hadn't checked the converter in the first place. They did offer me 1/2 hour credit after talking to Brittini May, the service manager. Incredibly disappointed with the service at General RV. Will not be back, and will recommend others to seek alternate mechanics. It's not about the money, it's about the principal. read more

Update Please see the Yelp for the base General RV Center, the Richmond location has only been in business for a few months. The reviews on the main page tell a more accurate story. The theme is the same. Get the customer out the door with maximum profit. Do not make repairs well, just enough to get through the walk through. One vendor who had done a REAL POOR PAINT REPAIR on my unit told me that the repair could easily have been done correctly but they were told to do the job as cheaply as possible "in order to preserve the profit in the unit". Not really an honest approach to repairing a $100,000 RV? Beware purchasing anything from them. read more

I would actually give the sales department 4 stars, but this is really for the service department. I have had my Grand Design Reflection for less than a year and over that time collected all the "warranty" items that were wrong with it. If they don't agree or can't find the issue, they charge $45. So my warranty list turned into a $90 charge. Then, this year, I take my trailer out for the first time to get away after being stuck in the house for a month due to Corona Virus, to find out the black tank handle won't pull open. Mind you, I had only had the unit out 8 times total. They are now charging me $165 because the cable needed to be lubed. Are you kidding me? Sounds to me like it shouldn't happen in one year with limited use. Sounds to me like it was never installed properly. Update: I called Grand Design and General RV never even tried to submit the claim for warranty according to them. General RV had told me that Grand Design denied the claim. They just want my money for service. This is one of the shadiest things I have seen. I will say that Grand Design service on the phone has been first rate. Needless to say, I will be looking for someone closer to home that can now service my unit now that the warranty has run out. I'm tired of the shadiness and the nickel and diming of their service department. read more

My family drove over 3 hours to start our search for an RV at the Ashland location. The rep assisting us apparently lost any interest in showing us RVs based on us not purchasing today, as we are budgeting and wanting to see different models based on our needs (bunks, storage, bedrooms). I am very disappointed in our experience today and will never return based on how we were treated. I suggest management step in and ensure that their sales reps aren't treating people less than for not commiting to buy an RV that day. Dustin is the best person to work with hands down. The first time I stepped on property I had my mind set on what I wanted. He didn't push to show me anything else. He didn't even follow me outside. He text my cell # so I had his and asked questions while I was walking around outside I hadn't made up my mind and left. Dustin then texted me once a month for 2 months checking in it I still liked the same model, letting me know it was available, and to let him know if I had questions. I went back up there and unfortunately what I wanted was no longer available. We spent hours going over different features that were must haves and what I could live without. He only showed me what was in my cash only budget, and showed me options for financing just to keep options open. He kept things professional, yet light hearted and wasn't afraid to joke around with my sister and I and our strong sarcasm. He was honest. He let me know why something wouldn't work, and why it would be a no. He was very direct and clear and wasn't out to just get a sale. We have attempted to get in touch with the service center on several occasions. We have never been able to talk to a rep, and we are always patched through to voicemail. On most occasions, the voicemail box is full and you cannot leave a message. I understand that times are tougher, but seems like extremely poor service that calls go unanswered and voicemails go unreturned. We purchased our fifth wheel at this location, and they promised excellent service with their new 60 bay facility. Unfortunately, that is not even close to accurate.. We have given up and will be using local RV shops in the future for sales and service. Don't waste your time on General RV. read more

Most of their units on their websites have no prices. I emailed a sales person for a price on a travel trailer. All I received were questions pertaining to nothing that I asked for, so I emailed back asking I needed a price on a travel trailer, so I could see if it was worth my time going up. The sales person advised that I needed to answer her questions first or she wouldn't give a price. Guess what? You lost a sale. read more

We enjoyed our experience with General RV. We went to a couple places to look around but general rv had the most to pick from within our price range. We also had a great salesperson. Dustin Crooks knew what he was talking about bc he had years of experience selling RVs. He made us feel comfortable and got us the best deal he could (at least I think so but that makes a good salesman right?) lol he also continues to keep in touch by mail to make sure our rv is still doing the job. I purchased a Grand Design Imagine travel trailer from this company in Jan 2021. Sales experience was good. I subsequently got a recall notice from Grand Design on the regulator. General RV has been completely non-responsive. Their service dept does not answer phones, they don't respond to detailed voice mails. After sales service appears to be non-existent. read more

I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you of an exceptional sales person you have in your Richmond, Virigina office. I am a new RV owner, purchasing a 2019 Fleetwood Bounder a little over a month ago. My family set out almost immediately across the country. We have travelled over 11,000 miles, visited 23 states and are having the time of our life. As is with RVs, some things started having issues. I called your sales person, DOC HOLLIDAY, and he took it personally to try and help. He drove into the office, found a technician, and has done everything he can to help us get things fixed. He has answered EVERY call and tried exhaustively to help. Where most sales people forget about their customers after they drive away, Doc Holliday has not. He even called to see how our trip was going! read more

My husband and I had a hydraulic line blow out while traveling thru Virginia, I found General RV to be 12 miles away so we went to get an estimate and repair. All seemed ok till we picked up our motorhome and were told our rig may be unusable permanently because they may not be able to get the parts since our rig is a 2006 and it needs a COMPLETE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM and our rails are bent but will try to see if at all possible to get all of the parts. We asked if they could at least repair the broken hydraulic line and they could not. We continued heading north on our trip. When we reached PA, we went to another RV shop who in just over 2 hours had the entire repair done minus nylon bushing which they ordered and we are scheduled to have done. Needless to say, we will never recommend General RV for anything. read more

Chris Coleman, the National Business Manager and Scott Kittle the Sales representative are your best friends when you contact them; until you are under contract and you've bought and settled on your new RV. General RV in Ashland VA sales and service departments are terrible and non responsive. They couldn't care less. Purchase your RV elsewhere, because this organization couldn't care less. I have been in aviation for 15+ years now and own my own RV repair business. My family and I live in our 44' triple axle RV fulltime and have for the last 2 years. STAY AWAY from General RV in Ashland. I can't speak to the others but this one is a disaster. When I call to set up the appointment, I communicated this and called more than a month in advance and was told that they would need if for 2-3 days for troubleshooting and return it to me while awaiting parts. A couple items were warranty as determined at a previous service appointment but they still insisted on diag. Drop off day shows up and I meet the service rep, Richard Fougnie. Things go well and I'm told I should most likely have it back by weeks end. My family and I head to the hotel(we've done this before, part of the territory) and the wait begins. I have temp sensors and cameras indoor and out so I know when things are happening. Fast forward to day 6 and they finally plug it in and put hands on it. Day 7 comes and I have commitments, so end of day 7 is as long as I can leave it. Richard ask for more time and I explain that I have deadlines and can't pay for a hotel indefinitely at $150-$200/day. We go through everything and determine that the tech assigned has no clue how to troubleshoot. The shop foreman comes out and as we walk through the issues she begins to see my frustration. I had 1 wheel flat spotted and the tech claims there is a second on the opposite side but fails to note position(can't fix it if you don't know where it is). Icemaker doesn't work so we turn the fridge button on, hear noise and say it does but fail to turn the icemaker valve to the "ON" position(this valve is located 6" under the hose connection). Electric furnace turns on and has lights but fails to blow or generate heat, to I flip the breaker to the "OFF" position. The tech says it works, just needs turned on. While there is a way to trick it, it does not work as advertised, therefore it isn't "working". this was the case with almost all of the 12 issues I noted at drop-off. The camper is left a mess with finishing nails littering the floor, wire stripping and miscellaneous electrical trash on the counter and floor(I would be fired if work that I completed was returned such manner). Richard and I discuss parts and he states that he doesn't have pricing so he can't quote numbers. I respond that it's all broken and needs fixed so I'm not concerned with price, just get it on order and call me when you have numbers, I'm happy to pay. Fast forward 3 weeks and I've heard nothing. I call and Richard tells me that he didn't order anything because I hadn't paid. I reference the earlier conversation and ask why he never followed up, only to be told that it's my job to follow up, not his. we go back and forth and when he is not interested in listening any longer and talking over me isn't working, he hangs up. I promptly get in my truck and drive 45 minutes to address this with the service manager. Brittni is the service manager and stopped to take the time to hear my concern. I explain everything, show photos of the disarray things are left in and get help ordering parts, because at this point I won't be bringing it back. Brian in parts was the only person that was helpful above and beyond what was required through this process. Brittni, while kind, offered no resolution. So in all, I spent $1200 on troubleshooting and another $1200 in a hotel with my family and dogs, only to have 1 out of 12 items fixed. I wanted the process to work and I took it somewhere when to have more time with my family. Instead, I wasted $$$, now have to do all of the work myself and get less time with my family. In short STAY AWAY from this place. They will waste your time and fail to fix things or diagnose them properly, they will leave your rig a mess and take forever to do it all. read more
