I would recommend staying at the generator hostel. The staff was very helpful and made the stay so nice. Specifically Joao at the check in desk gave us a warm greeting and gave us recommendations for places to explore in the city. Had to rent towels from the front and was able to do that with no hassle. read more

Decent hostel- did a private room. The bathroom smelled terrible .. so wasn't the best. The bed was soft, but for the king it's 2 doubles pushed together and they move very easily & often so sometimes we woke up in the middle on the hard bed frame. The deck attached to the room was very nice though! the best part of the room. but i probably won't pay extra for this type of room in the future because we were walking and gone 90% of the day! This was a decent place for the price. It was packed with large groups, kids, etc. had a good event/dj scene for the night... The location though is great and very walkable. 18 min walk from La Sagrada, far from the beach to walk 50 min, but close by train (15 min)! Great food nearby... check out La pepita. However overall, I wouldn't stay here again. Mostly the bathroom smell and look really makes this place so many less stars. It's hard when you don't want to shower even in a place. read more

This is the best value hostel/hotel I've ever stayed in, period. For an all girls room during the off season, I paid €15 a night. I didn't have to leave the room to shower or use the bathroom, which is a fantastic bonus in a hostel. Things were clean and I had my own locker space, plus a charger port and reading light in my bunk. If you forget to bring your own lock (or just about any other essential), they sell them here. Their common spaces are also really cute. This location is close to the metro and surrounded by small convenience stores and places to eat. Even though breakfast here is a little pricey, there's tons of nearby cheaper alternatives. I'd recommend this place to any friend staying in Barcelona. You can walk to one of the Gaudì houses in just five minutes, and with public transportation, it's not far from anywhere you'd want to go. read more

Hands down the best hostel ever. I stayed at the penthouse suite and it definitely did not disappoint. Wraparound terrace with views of Sagrada Familia, floor to ceiling windows all around, automatic shades, recessed lighting, distressed wood sliding doors, built in Bose speaker system, separate kitchen with fully stocked fridge (alcohol included), jacuzzi tub with separate shower and separate toilet with bidet, king size bed, pull out couch in living room area, the list goes on. Based on the floorplan it looks like it was previously 2 units combined into one. Lobby is modern and chic without being pretentious. Splashes of color bring a lively vibrance to the space. Cool swinging chairs and a beautiful lobby staircase leading to a generously sized mezzanine level ideal for socializing. Perfect location near public transport and plenty of cabs nearby. Small mini mart across the street. Responsive, well trained staff. Professional front desk made for easy check in. Bar with DJ on weekends good for pregaming. Hearty breakfast (paid separately). Locker room for storage. This place is ideal for those who want both the convenience and fun social vibe of a hostel combined with the privacy, cleanliness, and professionalism of a hotel. I am really surprised that this hostel/hotel has only two reviews but at least it has its deserved rate! It is the best hostel I have been! They have an amazing hotel area also where u can stay for a reasonable prices and the rooms come with a big balcony! It is stylish, the stuff are extremely friendly and helpful. I love the ceiling design that they have! They also have free photo booth upstairs! It is really in the centre to everywhere you can walk to many places from there especially sagrada familia is just 15 mins away! It is just little hard to walk from the metro stations with a big luggage. If you dont mind carrying them with you then I would say the metro stops are quite near but it is not 5 mins walk it is like 10 mins could be little more also. Dont think so much, stay in this affordable and amazing hostel! read more

Great hostel which is also a hotel! I absolutely loved it here and the only regret I have is the fact I booked other hostels got the other nights in Barcelona, I should have just stayed here! The bed are super comfy, the room comes with its own bathroom (toilet and shower) unlike other hostels. The breakfast for €9.50 is a sweet deal. Cereal, eggs, baked beans, sausage, yogurt, fresh oj, butter, honey, jelly and jams, bread, tomatoe and cucumber. You can have any coffee and tea you like! Will def stay here again :) read more

We stayed here for two days and it was an overall awful experience. The front desk staff are not very engaging and it shows. I asked one of the front desk staff for dinner recommendations and she ignored me but then after I stared at her for a response she passed me onto her colleague who never responded to me anyways. There was also an incident where five German ladies did not let us on the elevator because they said the cap was 6 people which was not true. Very uncomfortable environment. Its a bare bones place which we expected but a bit of customer service would have been nice. I would have rather spent a bit more money on a nicer hotel. read more

I was blown away by this hostel. The lobby is decorated beautifully and the staff are so energetic, accommodating, and helpful. I stayed in a 6 person private room. It was clean upon arrival, and the beds were very comfortable and clean. There was more than enough space for all of our things for a weekend trip. There is an outlet and light in each bed. Once in my room, the hostel was not loud and I did not hear any other rooms. It was pretty hot, though, since the windows don't open very wide. The bathroom and shower was nice and clean. 10/10 it felt like a hotel but more fun! read more

The hostel experience was fine in regards to their facilities and cleanliness, which is why they get my extra star. What compelled me to write this review was how the front desk required payment in cash upon check in while saying they were unable to charge my card, THEN proceeded to charge my card the same price, while denying that I ever paid in cash. Following a series of emails, they still refuse to compensate for the double charge, which pushed me to put this information out here. While I'm on my rant, prepare to use the dryer at least 4 times if you don't want your clothes wet. read more

Hands down the best hostel I've stayed in. Clean, beautiful and with a boutique feel. Me and my boyfriend loved it so much, we've booked Generator Paris for our next city break. The vibe is definitely for a younger crowd - I'm 24 and felt like a bit of a granny! However, if you're looking for a super cheap, super stylish, central and (most importantly) clean hostel, Genator is the one for you! read more

Don't stay here if you're over 21 years old! I had high hopes for Generator Barcelona. I received strong recommendations from the Generator in London saying that out of all of the Generator locations, Barcelona was their golden child. The property is beautiful and there is a great concept- almost feels like a boutique hotel property. But, the hostel is ruined by the behavior of rowdy 18 year-olds getting drunk and loud at all hours of the night on the 2nd floor, in the lobby, in the front entrance. In fact, the massive party of European frat boys were blatantly drinking alcohol out of plastic cups in front of the reception and none of the staff did anything about it even though the hostel claims that they enforce a strict no alcohol policy. Please refrain from staying here if you want a good nights rest. But hey, I understand that this is a hostel. I was 18 years old before. I've lived in the college dorms. However, this takes it to another level. This isn't a college dorm. In fact, there are all types of age groups who are staying here for different reasons. But, the common ground is that we're all looking for a place to share in space, store our luggage, enjoy the city, eat great food, and meet new friends. The experience I had in Barcelona was tainted from my visit to Generator Barcelona. I also have to say that the staff here is completely incompetent and incapable of "babysitting," or even a simple "can you please take the party outside" would have sufficed- but unfortunately, that did not happen. It's really a shame. Such a beautiful property. Sadly, I will not be recommending this hostel to any of my friends and family. read more

Very trendy, clean and comfortable hostel. Although the rooms were small they were perfect. The decor inside was beautiful, had a lovely bar to sit in and within a great part of Barcelona, plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars around to enjoy. Couldn't recommend it enough, i will be staying again. read more

This hostel was absolutely amazing. Way better than I ever imagined or expected. It was clean and beautiful. A bit far from the city center and from the beach, but it was still worth it. The staff was nice and helpful, the beds were comfortable, and the rooms were immaculate. There's a washer and dryer on site, full kitchen, mini-library, a bar, lounge, tv room and restaurant. You really don't even have to leave the hostel! And the Wi-Fi was great. I can't even think of anything bad. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in Barcelona. read more

i stayed in a generator hostel in paris - which is why i was excited to stay here. i was SO disappointed. i came as part of a group trip, so we were subject to eating "breakfast" in the basement, without windows or wifi - it was not even breakfast!! they offered stale bread, "croissants", no fruit, and some bland cereals. the room: cramped for 6 girls, no space to simply move around. ac/heating did not work; it was either freezing or too hot. we were not given duvets/blankets/comforter, just simply a thin flat sheet. bathroom was tiny. i am a small person and i had no room in the shower and continuously hit my elbows on the shower knob. the bar: i'm not a drinker, but i wanted to try sangria while in barcelona. this was NOT sangria - it was a cranberry, vodka, tequilla, and some other liquids in a cup with like 3 slices of fruit. worst 5€ i ever spent. if you want to stay in a hostel in barcelona - DO NOT STAY HERE. read more
