One of my go-tos for fast food sushi. I was at Alas so decided to do take out for lunch for me and Baby. Did online ordering so was easy. Got a Tuna Handroll Temaki, 2 orders Spicy Ahi, Salmon Kama and Salmon Bone. Holy moly the prices are crazy now. $6 for tuna salad temaki. Nothing I got was cheaper than that. - Temaki had choke onions which I liked, so that was good. - Spicy ahi didn't have much of their mayo sauce on it. - Salmon Kama came from the world's smallest salmon. Was tasty otherwise. - Salmon bone was ok. They need to salt it a little. Workers are nice but definitely no sense of urgency. And my Hot Salmon was closed up in a bag with my cold ahi. I feel like that should be part of Day 1 training. Hot and Cold go separate. Separate. SEPARATE. I don't know if they are trying to save money on the bags, but I rather it not even be bagged than have my raw food being steamed. Food quality seemed to have declined. Make sure to reserve using their QR code or online if you're craving sushi from Genki. I ordered baked spicy stuffed mussels. I think they should cook it a little longer as the stuffing tasted like it was added from the chopping board. The mayo flavor is good. I also got their spicy tuna. It's okay...I think Kuru Kuru is better and are more generous with their topping. The fried calamari is yummm! This is fried well with light batter. It is perfectly seasoned! The agedashi tofu is a must to have. They fried it with light batter and topped with lots of seaweed and green onions. I think they should add a little umami flavor to the stock... I like how the food is delivered to you. It comes from the cook and straight to you. This minimizes the contamination. The service can be revisited as there is definitely room for improvement. For instance, I am eating and the staff started spraying a cleaning agent 2 chairs away from me and I felt the liquid on my hand. It's a good thing I was just about done with eating. Cleaning and sanitizing the area is GREAT but please consider that you are spraying a chemical on someone's food! Please add care when doing so. In Ala Moana Shopping Center, 2 floor by Sephora and Target Wing. I suggest going earlier to avoid the Lunch and Dinner rush. Lunch before 12pm and Dinner before 6pm. Make sure your ALL of your party members are present. There is a waitlist QR code outside their door. Since I went after work on a Saturday the wait time was about 10-15min and I was 7th in line. Service was quick with water and green tea. There is another QR code you scan for the menu and to order your food. Easy Peasy. At this location, depending on what you order, it can come out quickly, but most of the time it can take a while. I'd rather just put in an order of what you want first so you can keep the flow going. My experience was decent, it's like every other genki sushi on O'ahu. However, when I went I felt that the rice was a little mushy and undercooked. It was nice and warm but the rice to fish ratio was a little off. The waitress was nice, hence the reason this place wasn't a 1 star. 6.50 for 2 pieces of ahi tuna sushi that wasn't fresh with a mediocre amount of fish was pretty frustrating. There are so many better places to get sushi around Hawaii for cheaper and better quality. The space is small and with even a small amount of people gets very loud. Everything looks outdated... Ala Moana is fairly clean. Service was good. Hey-- It's Genki Sushi. It's mass produced sushi. Rice is exactly the same. The unagi was paper thin and really small. The tuna/ahi wasn't that bad, but they were strangely shaped and slightly bigger than the unagi. The tamago was better than Kozo's, but way smaller than a real sushi place. I get it. They are trying to save money because they have so many workers in a chain gang wrapping seaweed and fish around the rice machine's rice. The rice was actually not bad. But there is no consistency. Every fish piece can be different. But it was OK. The best thing about my meal was the pumpkin tempura which was 4 bucks and more pieces than I expected. They at least got that part right. It wasn't worth the nearly 50 bucks I spent, but I knew what I was getting. If it was 30 bucks, I would have liked it more. You want good sushi? Go to Ahi+Veg. Or a regular sushi place. In Ala Moana, Genki has one of a few locations around the island. This location is by Tanaka Ramen with parking adjacent to the restaurant. We have been a few times over the last few years and it has been pretty consistent. The interior feels the same as it did many years ago at Genki too. It is brightly lit and simple inside. The service is quick and friendly, which is nice because there is sometimes a wait. We got the ebi fry roll, spicy tuna bowl, ikura, and keiki set. All were good and flavorful! Especially the bowl. The food was really good and the service was nice. Although my mom got old brown lettuce from her salad as you can see in the picture. And we rang the call bell two times and the waiters/waitresses didn't come when we rang it we had to wait for our udon to be delivered just to get chopsticks and straws, compared to the one we usually go to the unagi is pretty smaller than the pearl ridge one. The atmosphere was pretty nice too it's just a bit too cold for me and my mom but it is not as crowded as the one we usually go to. The view is nice but I wish there were windows so us people in the back could see a view too. My past two recent times I've been there has been terrible. Both times they forgot items I ordered. One time I waited so long I asked to get it off my bill, paid, and left. I waited at least 20 minutes. The most recent time they missed over half my order. I waited for over 20 minutes as I watched other tables get their food. Even tables that came after me had left before me. I finally asked one of the staff that my order was missing and IF it hasn't started being made, I'd love to cancel it and pay. It came out within 2 minutes even though I requested to cancel it AND no one came to talk to me after that. The lady just walked past me like nothing happened. I'm sure to catch up with inflation. (As defined online: Inflation is a decrease in the purchasing power of money, reflected in a general increase in the prices of goods and services in an economy.) The workers have always been pretty friendly and helpful towards us. They are always on it for refilling my water. To order there is a QR code on a receipt given when seated. You scan that to access the menu and place orders. No iPads currently. The food arrives on the train. I like that they have changing special items. My current favorite has to be the Seared Spicy Set. It's a tasty offering of shrimp, ahi and salmon with seared spicy and mayo sauce on top. The fried items are crispy and fresh. Depending on how busy it is, sometimes there's a longer wait for take out orders. But my food is always packed securely! :D The wasabi, shoyu and pickled ginger I ask for are always there. I go to this genki sushi during weekday lunch. Been eating here several times a year all my life. It's always a consistent experience when I go. The quality of the fish and the sushi as a whole is great. I enjoy how fast the food arrives and the staff are always attentive and look around to see if I need anything. Genki is the fast food version of sushi so if you go with that attitude and don't expect Michelin star sushi or service, you should be pretty happy. My favorite dishes are the ones pictured, the Seared Spicy Salmon Nigiri (not spicy at all) and Garlic Salmon Nigiri are really unique sushi full of flavor and worth a try if you don't know what to get. The only reason I can't give Genki 5/5 stars is because they used to be known for being very affordable but now their prices are constantly going up. But all in all, I always know I'll get quick and delicious sushi here and they never let me down. read more
