I had an issue with my toilet not flushing through. Called Genteel Plumbers and was able to get an appointment within a few hours which was awesome. Joan and his partner dropped by and diagnosed the issue and provided me with some options for the repair. They performed a hydro jet pressure cleaning of the main pipes and that unclogged the issue. Called Genteel for a clogged shower drain and Jo and Graham were able to come the same day. They assessed the situation and very quickly came back with 3 options and quotes for each. The clog was more stubborn than anticipated so they reassessed and came back with 2 more options to replace a section of pipe where the obstruction was located. As of May 2, 2025, after I posted a one-star review (since I couldn't give a zero-star review), our company has received a total of $2,836.00 in refund checks for a few jobs performed by this company. Since then, we have been receiving numerous phone calls, almost daily, requesting that we either remove the negative review or change the one-star rating to a higher score because of the refunds. My review is not motivated by financial compensation; my concern is with the quality of work, which I perceive as subpar and potentially scam-like. I even considered returning the refund checks because my one-star review is not for sale. However, I ultimately thought about the business owner's letter and his perspective. For that reason only, I raised it to 2 stars. That said, it's challenging to overlook the actions of every employee, and it's impossible to monitor their every move and choice of words. I hope the owner takes steps to educate their employees and improve their business practices to meet honest business standards. Every year since they come by for free to flush the water tank to keep up the maintenance. Recently, the water heater gave me an error code which I was able to resolve with some tinkering. Chris, Joe, Graham, Gordon and the team spent the entire day at my house today expertly and meticulously removing a 40-gallon water heater that had rusted through on the bottom (and was leaking all over), and replacing it with a state-of-the-art tankless version that will never bust on me, and has a fantastic warranty and included service plan! They responded to my evening after-hours call within minutes and were over here first thing in the morning. They went completely above and beyond, even replacing a rusted electrical outlet and making sure the pipe work was beautifully designed. They also cleaned up the areas they worked on very well. In the futher, I'm looking for transparency on the interaction and that it's only an after normal business hours and weekends sort of thing.
