She is dishonest, cold, and completely unfit to work with terminally ill patients. I came to her during one of the most vulnerable times of my life, battling stage 4 cancer. Instead of compassion, I was met with lies, avoidance, and outright negligence. She deliberately gave me false information and dismissed my care needs multiple times -- not just once. She's not only untrustworthy, she's dangerous. Palliative care is supposed to be about improving quality of life. Charlotte Byrd made mine worse. She lied to get out of doing her job, left me without support, and treated me as a burden, not a human being. Her behavior is not only unethical -- it borders on medical malpractice. No one in this condition should have to endure her attitude, her deception, or her refusal to fulfill basic responsibilities. I do not feel safe around her and I fear for any other patient under her care. I have reported her to hospital administration and am filing a formal complaint with the Alabama Board of Nursing. I strongly urge Mitchell Cancer Institute to remove her from their staff immediately. No patient--especially someone in palliative care--should be treated like this. She should be fired. They left my mom alone multiple days because of "car trouble" or "sickness". When they are there, the care givers don't seem to really want to be there. They are not mean or anything but I got the feeling they were just waiting for their shift to end. From my side, my rep was very communicative, gave me regular updates and answered all my questions, day or night, weekends as well. So a mixed review.

We went in on Thursday because my daughter had a sore throat, that she was crying about. It's a big deal because she is usually a very tough cookie. We have both had strep throat more than once, so I am familiar with what it looks like. We saw the NP Lindsey and was told her results were negative even thought the look was very consistent with strep she actually had a NEW virus going around that causes ulcers in your throat. She continued to tell my daughter how she knows it hurts, she knows it's painful but she'll feel better soon. She also let me know in somewhat of a condescending tone that there was nothing that could be done about the pain. I asked several times because I just could believe it. She eventually said I could have her gargle with equal parts maalox and Benadryl, but only if I was certain my 7 year old could gargle. Needless to say I left furious, it just didn't make any sense. Of corse today is Monday, after my child has suffered all weekend, we get a call letting us know she DOES in fact have strep and her antibiotic would be called in. We'll just stick to our well visits with Katie/skinner. I'll continue to take my child to the children's urgent care when she is not feeling well.

We left on psychedelic drugs and lacking information that would support our transition home. Furthermore, they refused to discuss the necessary insurance orders that were required to gain resources and supplies we needed to be successful at home. We were discharged suddenly without much notice; it was all very passive and vague. Consider being called at 10am to be told your loved one would be home by 330pm that same day and no hospital bed or equipment was delivered. Resulting from added stress and increased financial charges; that 4 months later we are still incurring. They refused to discuss orders needed to process insurance under the excuse of "we are new and do not know much about the system". The staff seems nice and professional but have strong tones of arrogance and body shaming. The overall director is the shinning silver lining in this facility. Do not expect an improvement or help while attending this facility.
