However, Dr Cullen is almost impossible to have a conversation with, or ask questions of it's just his natural manner, but it makes things difficult and awkward and you often don't get answers to your questions/concerns. His nurse tries her best to be the middle man, and I can understand that it gets frustrating for her. However, that doesn't justify the fact that she speaks to him in an insolent manner which is embarrassing, to the point that I don't know where to look/what to do, and feel like a spare part; it's wholly inappropriate. Also, it makes the atmosphere stressful which is the last thing you need. She seems to be very good at her job otherwise. Beyond that everything was much more than fine in the beginning; however, as soon as I complained about something everything changed. The attitude of all the staff towards me changed, and Dr Cullen no longer had time for me even when I tried to seek his advice for an ongoing issue. Prior to that, he would really would go out of his way doing all sorts of things which were truly 'added value', and set him completely apart from the rest. He is also truly a proactive dentist, and was the first in my life to set out a treatment plan and give me advice. Had previous dentists taken such care, I wouldn't have ended up with such a mess in my mouth. However, I finally had enough of the 'atmosphere' created at each visit and the fact that they both thought nothing of it, the inability to discuss my concerns, his new couldn't-care-less attitude towards me, and the endless stories each visit about the wonders he'd worked on other people's teeth (which flagged up a confidentiality issue with me I hope those patients gave their permission, because I would not like photos/details of my mouth to be shown to/discussed with other people) and went elsewhere. I also visited the hygienist several times, and got so frustrated that I chose to visit another hygienist also. She spends a good portion (much longer than the 5 minutes that is on a notice in her treatment room) of the appointment making notes on the computer, which is a waste of time because she asks the same questions, and says the same things, each appointment. It gets very tedious, and takes up even more of the appointment unnecessarily. The time actually spent on my teeth made me feel as if I wasn't getting value for money at all. Also, the one time I asked for something specific to be treated I had to ask repeatedly, and it wasn't done effectively even though it was something easy to resolve.

Truly Horrific Experience…read more I first contacted Prodental in May 2017. I booked an appointment and was sent emails with two different appointments - one of the many examples of their shockingly poor administration, which unfortunately is putting patients at risk. I had my first appoint and was told I was suitable for treatment. I was booked in for a scan and another appointment with the dentist for the following week. I had the scan and returned to dentist expecting treatment to start. Instead he took a look at my scan, said I was suitable for treatment based on my results, that I did not need a further CT scan and that I could be booked in for an implant. I was in and out of the treatment room in about a minute. I was then booked in the extraction and implant six weeks later. 3 days before my implant I received a voicemail saying I needed a CT scan - despite previously being told that it wasn't necessary. I had to take time off at short notice for the scan - and was also charged more than I was quoted for the scan. 4 hours before my appointment I received a call from Prodental telling me that I couldn't have the implant at the appointment because I now needed a bone graft. I spoke to the practice manager Nicola Burgess to try and understand what was going on. Like other reviewers of this surgery have experienced, she started shouting at me down the phone, saying it was my fault for not having had a CT scan insisting that all implant patients have one. When I asked her why the dentist said I didn't need one and why, if all patients have one, did they not book me in for one, she kept shouting over me. She was extremely aggressive. I was given no pre-information prior to the surgery telling me if, for example, I should avoid any medication or whether or not I should eat. The extraction of my tooth was, in the words of the dentist 'traumatic'. Now, I love going to the dentist - and I have a great dentist. I typically don't bother with injections (although they don't bother me). The bone graft surgery was brutal. I could feel and see thick thread pulling hard against my lips as I was stitched up and at the same time the dental nurse kept pushing the suction tube so far back I kept gagging. Four times I had to push her hand back. After the surgery I was given no post-treatment guidance to take away. I was given a prescription for 4 items including anti-biotics and steroids. I asked where there was an open pharmacy (it was almost 7pm) and was told 'round the corner'. I had further appointments for check-ups that took me into the following year. I would book 9am appointments but no-one would be at the surgery including during the snow. My gum was opened up a further three times and not once was I given information before the appointment. In November 2017 I was given a document with pre-surgery information 4 minutes before I went in. It contained information I should have had in advance and information I needed afterwards. After signing the form (which I annotated to show I had only just received it 4 minutes before) they took it away from me so I still didn't get the post-surgery care information. That form stated that I should have been accompanied and I was not. I had the impressions taken for the crown in on February 7th. It takes two weeks for the crown to be made but they made an appointment for 3 weeks later due to the snow. The appointment was postponed repeatedly . On 16th March I received the following email (copied directly): "Unfortuatly we will need to cancel your next appointment on Saturday 3rd Febuary 2018 @ 11.30 , We have avalibility on Friday 2nd January 2018 6pm where we can move your appointment." I had to continually chase them to find out what was happening. Finally I was given an appointment on 25th April. At the appointment they twice tried to get me to sign a form saying I was happy with the final results - even though the implant wasn't finished and I had yet to go into the treatment room. I notice in responses to poor reviews they claim that other patients who have had poor experiences have signed that form - no wonder if they are that duplicitous. Further, I understood all medical information to be confidential so I don't know why they publish statements about which forms patients have signed. At the appointment my gum had to be opened up again. The receptionist, who had been typing on her computer, came into the treatment room to act as the dental nurse. She did not wash her hands or put on gloves before handling the injection or the scalpel and for some unknown reason kept giggling whilst leaning over my face. The dentist had to keep repeating instructions, as she did not know what she was doing. Again I got no post-treatment information. My gum was painful and so I went to my regular dentist who showed me how to clean the area and what to buy. Avoid.

In the past I've been very uneasy about dental procedures, and it had been some time since I'd had…read morea cleaning. When I asked a friend for a recommendation she mentioned CAP city. I called and made an appointment. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist and offered coffee. The office is decorated with art and vintage model airplanes. I got into the chair and was examined by a friendly dental assistant. The dentist then came in and we chatted a bit and he asked a few questions. Nitrous oxide was offered, along with Bose noise canceling headphones and my choice of tunes : ) I went for a live Fleetwood Mac album. During my cleaning it was discovered that I had a cavity. During the procedure, Dr. Druttman explained what he was doing before he did it which made me less anxious. Most importantly...the drilling and filling was nearly painless. I left the office feeling totally at ease. I would recommend CAP city to anyone needing an excellent dentist in London, and especially to anyone who's scared of the dentist.

Remember that horrible creeping fear when you were little and your mum wouldn't tell you why she was picking you up from school early but brought your toothbrush? Remember that cold, clinical waiting room with large posters boasting of the horrors of tooth decay and gum disease if you DARE to have that one sugary snack? Thankfully, Gentle Dental is absolutely nothing like any of that. I hadn't been to the dentist for nigh on 10 years due to a fear of wisdom teeth removal but was forced into action when a chunk broke off from one of my back teeth. Two visits later - one check up and x-ray and one for treatment and I'm back in pain free business with a very sparkly mouth to boot. NHS friendly and as the name says - very gentle, I can't say nice enough things about my new dentist! They even have magazines that men would want to read in the waiting room!

Let's be honest, we all know we need to floss, but who really has the time or inclination to run a piece of waxed string around your teeth every day? I've been to quite a few dentists (the downside of moving frequently is that you consistently need to find a new one) and Balham Dental Care has provided some of the best service. Plus points: 1) Registration is a breeze and you can print the forms off from the website 2) You can make appointments online 3) They will call you as soon as you make the appointment with any cancellations they have that day in case you want to duck in and get it done 4) It's pretty damn clean (which is an essential element for any doctor or dentist I think yet usually lacking to some degree) 5) They accept NHS patients and are friendly to you if you are one (had a bad experience where quality of service dipped dramatically when I was using the NHS plan instead of private) Drawbacks: 1) It's in Balham which is not convenient for a mid-work day appointment 2) You often have to wait 10-15 mins even if you have an appointment Overall, it's my top choice for getting my teeth looked at and the personal care is definitely top notch.
